Mission: Food for the Gods
Location: Conference Room

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

"We shouldn't rush the away team onto the planet. The little information we go with, the more of a mistake that can be made. Why not come up with ways to obtain this information before jumping to running around and draw attention to ourselves?" Damion said softly as he looked around. "While I do not agree with the Chief Intel's methods, his team does have experience in these kinds of things."

[NEW]

"We have an advanced signal for help on a planet not seeming to have the Technology to have created the source of the signal. Or in pointing the source and finding out why is our task. Wile the Intel department may have methods COmmunications and Science are more the skill set with an ENgineer to evaluate the technology as well would seem the best suited for the away mission I think." Munich pointed out.

"I don't disagree with you, Commander, however, the Intel teams shuttle can get those people, whoever they are, closer and maintain their secrecy on the planet." Damion replied before adding. "From what I understand, the shuttle is equipped with a cloak and a replicator specifically designed to make clothing. It will also get the team close enough to figure out more about the signal we are trying to find out about."

Munich tilt his head slightly in thought. "SO in essence you want the Intel people to do the same job as the away team becaus you have a shuttle that can cloak, then they observe, make clothes and such then infiltrate the source?" Munich took a breath. "That is the same mission I just suggested only are these intel people the specialists we have in the crew." He looked to York. "With respects, I would rather send down specialists rather than some Intel operatives that might not be able t evaluate the technology and other variables as a specialized away team Ma'am."

"You're not listening to me." Damion replied quickly. "I am saying we send your specialists on the shuttle which is already equipped to provide them with whatever they need and that can assist them. I am not saying not to send specialists. I'm saying we use something that already works in this situation along with people we have whoever you need. All you need is two, maybe three of the Intel unit to man the shuttle and equipment, also to act as support, as well as an away team to work in the field. You're specialists that you seem to want so much. Do you understand?"

"Hans, I agree that he was not suggesting Intel do all the work." She turned to Damion. "And you, Mr. Wolfe, need to not be so quick to take offense. Now, before this gets any further out of hand, we are not just going to beam down and hope for the best. Mr. Batiste, I am a scientist and do not jump into situations without looking where I'm going first." Then, remembering some of the situations she had jumped into feet first she smiled. "Without just cause."

Sam continued, "Yes, the Horus does have specialized equipment on board, but the Calypso is quite capable of doing the job. I was giving him and his team the opportunity. However, I don't want to stay inorbit long enough to get a detailed understanding of the planet and its government. We are here to find out what equipment is in need of repair and repair it without being noticed. If we have a chance to observe and learn more about the people here, all the better." She had every intention of gathering information--if only from a distance--about the colony so that science could, at some point, figure out how their society altered so drastically.

Damion just nodded his head and remained silent. He soon stared off in deep thought. The noises and voices around him seemed to fade away. It was as if he was there and still not. He thought of when he got here, and when he left to deal with the NightStar, and every incident they ran into. All the threats and discoveries. Then he thought of Elsa and those threats seemed far worse. For a brief moment he closed his eyes and thought to himself that maybe, just maybe, he reached his end and hand to think about more important things.

Ronnie slipped into the room, trying not to bring attention to herself. She's been stuck monitoring an experiment until another officer came to relieve her. She would have to ask someone afterwards what she missed. She slipped into a chair next to Damon.

"I'm glad you could make it," Sam said to Ronnie. "We're discussing sending an away team down to the planet to repair whatever sent the message without violating the Prime Directive."

"Great. Science will help any way we can."

"Then emphasis should be on locating the source then what stage of the Prime Directives are prudent to this situation?" Munich added.

"We can't just beam to the location of the signal without knowing what it is or what surrounds it," Sam said. "Therefore, we have to send down an away team to find it and find a way in. We will then be able to beam them back. To that end, I would like someone from science, ops, engineering and security to be part of the landing party. Those still on the ship will have the opportunity to make further study of the planet to see if it warrants an observation post."

Shan met the Captain's eye. "If I may volunteer, Captain? I have some experience in working under similar circumstances," she said, thinking of the covert missions she had been on.

"Thank you," Sam said. "I agree that you would be a good choice."

"Either Maria or I can go," Ronnie said.

"Okay. Talk to Delgado and let me know which of you will go."

Damion looked over to his wife and then let out a soft sigh, shaking his head slightly before looking back down towards the table.

"I guess that means Maria's going," Ronnie said, smiling at Damion.

"If you want go, then go. I'm not going to tell you not to go if you feel you are going to be of use to the mission. Obviously, that's more important. One of us has to be here." Damion replied quickly.

"Now you're putting words in my mouth," Ronnie said.

"The current recommendation is to have a team of mainly science and engineers to go down to the planet. Currently, you are the Acting Chief of Science, so your skills would suit the missions current purpose and fulfill the command staffs recommendation. It's not putting words in your mouth its logic by process of elimination." Damion said quickly, without missing a beat in thought. "Do you feel, with your current skills and knowledge, that your presence will be of benefit to the team on the planet or does that position on the team a better suit for someone of Delgado's skills? You're the one who volunteered. Just because I am hesitant, doesn't mean my feelings should surpass whats needed for the current mission to succeed. You decide if you would be of benefit down there or not. Not me. I have my own concerns which have been brought up and decided on. Science is priority so science takes the lead."

She shrugged. "I'll think about it."

Noticing a break in the discussion, T'Pral put in, "I shall join the Away Team. An engineer is a logical addition in this instance. Lieutenant Dixon has adequately handled the department in my absence."

"It is. Thank you, Lieutenant T'Pral."

Sam turned to Remy. "I would like Intel to get as much information as you can about the dress and technology of the planet in the next six hours. At that time, I would like an away team ready to beam down to the planet to fix that machine."

She turned to Damion. "I would like someone from security to join the team. I will leave it to you to decide who will go."

Sam looked around. "Is there anything else anyone would like to bring up?"

Shan folded her hands and mentally bit her lip to stop from saying what she was thinking. What she was thinking was that she had never been in a briefing where the members of the senior staff bickered like a pack of children. Her eyes drifted around the room and she made mental notes of those who had been here today... and who seemed to have history with whom.

"If not, then you're dismissed." Sam had some work to do before sending the away team down to the planet. And she would have to consider who she sent down to keep any more arguments from cropping up. She would have to have a word with Damion.
