Mission:
Food for the Gods
Location: Crew Quarters
Timeline: A Few Days After Leaving Vulcan
ON:
Logic dictated that Savar go to his office; with the ship so recently leaving Vulcan it was hardly the time for him to be going through the diplomatic bag for the latest tidbit of Galactic Gossip; or the latest scuttlebutt concerning who had whom in the palm of the hand? No, his new command could wait and Savar had the option of doing a majority of his work from his quarters thanks to some creative rewiring of the Communication network. It was a minor bit actually; listening devices were far more intricate than this redirection of his Comm signals.
The old days of Intel work are behind him; it is going through the motions here and now; the diplomatic functions would be just that; boring parties, with no clandestine meeting or having coded information slipped into his wife's lingerie. He was quite content with diplomatic work now; he had His Lei and being in the fray meant he had a far better chance of not returning home after a mission than he did with his new duties. Though maybe just as dangerous; he would be in the First Contact Business as a diplomat when it came to approaching new cultures.
But right now, he was just getting the last of things placed; his furnishings were meager and already placed along with those things that he and Lei chose together but her things were neatly stacked for his beloved to filter through. He felt her approach. Several years of being intimate had given him some connection with he,; enough that he could tell when she is near and if she had the sort of day for a tea or something non-synthale?
Shan's lips quirked into a grin as she walked into her quarters. She could feel Savar there, and she'd had a long enough day that she was looking forward to putting her feet up and relaxing this evening. The transition to Assistant Chief on the new ship had been... mostly smooth. There were a few hold-outs though who thought that one of their own should have gotten the position, and there was a subtle resentment in the way they took their assignments from her- nothing bad enough to be insubordination or even really disrespectful, but it was there. They were in the minority, though, and most of the department didn't really care so long as the work load was fairly distributed. Shan was careful to make sure of that, so she was sure she'd win them all over in time when they saw she didn't play favorites or retaliate.
For tonight, though, she was glad to be home. "Honey, I'm home," she called with a smile for her Mate and a little internal laugh at the reference to centuries old 'sitcoms' that Humans used to watch for entertainment.
"Glad to see you in good spirits My Lei." He came up to kiss her as a greeting ritual. "I think I could arrange a small heating unit that resembles a crackling fire place," he joked as he went to the replicator to order something to relax them: a couple of teas and some fruit as a snack.
She laughed a little. "Who needs a crackling fire when I've got a toasty hot Mate to curl up with?" she purred with a suggestive smirk. While Savar went to the replicator, she slipped into the bedroom and changed out of her uniform and into a pair of black leggings with a blue silk wrap-around shirt. The shirt was a little big for her- it had actually been Savar's when they first started seeing each other. She had commandeered it and since then it was one of her favorite 'stay at home' outfits, sometimes paired with the leggings, sometimes just the shirt.
She shook her hair out a bit and sighed as that 'home' feeling settled over her. Yes. This was home now. She just had to finish putting her things away.
Actually, that sounded like a good idea. She'd get that done tonight- there wasn't that much, really, just a couple boxes...
She walked back out into the main room and accepted a small, handle-less cup of tea from Savar. She inhaled the scent. "Is this that Vulcan blend?" she asked. "Or something new?"
"It is the Vulcan blend and some of the Earth fruits; I believe they are referred to as 'Passion Fruits,’ and chilled to be a bit crisp as well as sweet." Savar placed the tray down on the coffee table. "I have noticed new puzzles in the Data Bank along your lines of style." He commented, "Though a couple might be a challenge even for you."
"A new puzzle would be fun," she agreed taking a sip of the tea and carrying the cup with her to open up a box of her things that still needed to be unpacked. This box included a puzzle she had done and then had mounted and framed. The picture was of a spread of peacock feathers, and it had been rated as one of the more difficult puzzles in the database. It had taken weeks to do. She didn't keep all of her puzzles, there was no room for them after all these years of this hobby, but this one had been such a challenge she wanted to keep it around for a while. At least until a tougher one was completed. "We could pick one out together after I finish putting everything away. Of course, then we'll lose the dining table again," she said with a laugh. When she had a puzzle out, the dining room table couldn't be used for eating; using that table for actual dining was a novelty for them!
"Oh, you mean the puzzle table," Savar said with no expression. "Logic dictates that the name of the furniture be adapted to the purpose and only the original name if this one is damaged and needs replacing." He walked up behind Shan. "You know I cannot resist you when you are engrossed in a puzzle, the angles you survey from are quite... alluring?"
"Alluring, hmm? And here I thought it was the puzzles themselves you enjoyed. I didn't mean to be so distracting," she said lightly as she moved to the wall, activating the small 'sticky' fasteners that would allow her to hang the picture wherever she wanted. She also added just a little more sway to her hips as she walked and decided on where to place the picture, settling on one of the walls of the dining room. Or perhaps puzzle room was the proper description now.
"They are both quite enticing in their own ways," Savar replied as he watched his wife. "I am afraid you will have to also rethink your clothing for the Diplomatic Events; you will be attending legitimately and will not be required to have," he gave a sly grin, "data chips passed through customs in your Lingerie."
She laughed. "That happened ONE TIME," she emphasized. "And it wasn't exactly my idea. You know neither of us thought the contact would make use of my low backed dress to slip the data to me while under the cover of a dance." She fixed the frame onto the wall and then cast Savar a teasing, tempting smile. "But I don't remember you complaining when you retrieved it later that night."
"Just a testament to how much less fun being a diplomat can be compared to portraying one." He chuckled. "And I do admit that was one of the few times I was jealous; or at least wishing to break a hand for trying such a thing." He shrugged. "Which I believe you noted the passion of that night was notable?" he teased back.
Shan laughed a little again, this time a low, sensuous chuckle, almost under her breath. She pretended to be engrossed with making sure the picture was hanging straight. "Well, there have been so many passionate nights, I'm not sure I can remember that specific one. You'll have to remind me," she commented idly.
"There is a logical goal." Savar smiled. "And I hope you will not mind remaining in your Distraction role at the functions; why change a good system because it is no longer actively needed?"
"Want me to keep the spotlight off you still? I can probably manage that." She turned around to eye him sternly. "You'll owe me, of course, but I think we'll be able to work out a payment schedule we can both live with." She smiled at him as she went back to the box and pulled out her katana and the stand that would hold it, looking around before deciding which shelving unit to along the walls to put it on. As she set it up, she glanced at him. "Do you know of a specific party coming up I need to be shopping for, or are we just establishing a baseline for future operations?"
"A base line mostly." Savar was putting a few of the smaller holo displayed on the shelves, working his way closer to his Lei. "The next assignment seems a First Contact from what I gathered at the meeting." He watched in his shirt and even with the pants he saw her legs quite defined and well-toned.
He changed the subject, nodding at the sword she was putting on display, "We should bring out my Jason Persona as we have not utilized your Katana for a while?" He gave her a sideways glance. "I am aware there is another of your kind on the ship; the one I believe that brought you into the fight?"
"Yes, Newmark is here. I told you that... Oh, did I mention that he wants to get together for dinner? Spend some time with him and his wife. And meet the new baby."
"Thought your kind could not have children; a side effect of immortality?" He was close enough to give her a nudge playfully. "I was not aware he had a significant other, did he marry that singer; he is not striking me as type to have children outside a strong commitment?"
She laughed a little at his reference to her "Immortal Headhunter" program. "Yes, he married that musician. And you're right- he certainly wouldn't go around fathering random children all over the universe. I'm a little surprised he got Unterhaven to settle down with him- I thought she was the footloose, fancy-free artistic type or something- but he was definitely always looking for a serious and stable."
"Something changed her mind; likely significant as well," Savar thought aloud. "I have found that Human musicians, unless famous and partly egomaniacs, do eventually settle down and leave that style of life. Historically it is backed up by facts. Besides, I doubt your friend could talk her into anything she did not wish?" He smiled and caressed her face gently. "Absence makes some hearts grow fonder?"
"So they say." She reached up and gripped his collar. "Let's NOT test that one. I never did like clichés," she said and then pulled him down into a kiss- a much more thorough kiss than the one he'd greeted her with when she'd come home.
This time he savored the kiss. Savar put his arms around her waist and drew her very close. Lei is a passionate woman; part of what drew him to her. He let the kiss linger until they needed air. "You will not get rid of me that easily." He used his Vulcan /Romulan strength to lift her while in the embrace and walk her towards the bedroom. "You are My Lei..."
Shan wrapped her arms around his shoulders and grinned at him. "And don't you forget it," she told him before she moved in for another kiss. Savar didn't suppress his emotions like other Vulcans did, and she loved the uninhibited passions he shared with her and her alone. It was just one of the things in their Mating that she was really, really thankful for. The list was very long, but this was right up there.
