Mission: Shadow Dance
Location: Jenefran Palace
Timeline: Day 4, evening

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

"You've been on the ship and a member of the Federation. Do you honestly think someone like Commodore York would come down here with no real proof of whats going on? When have you ever known her to no do her do diligence when it comes down to someone like this? And the Princess. You've sent people after her, twice, and she is still alive. If I were you I would have outsourced. Don't send Jenefran's to kill a Jenefran Princess and let her live. You got sloppy and now, in order to keep you alive, I need to give you an exit instead of leaving you to a firing squad, Tate."

[NEW]

Tate scowled at Remy. "Unless you have physical evidence to support your claims I suggest you cease your slanderous anecdotes. So far the only thing Commodore York has proven to me is her contempt for diplomacy and her apathy towards anyone not part of tight little family. If you can back your claims then perhaps we can speak of your terms but until then you are wasting your time and breath."

Samantha was standing in the doorway, watching the interplay. "Enough," she ordered. "Mr. Batiste, Ms. Tate, you are both on report." She held up a picture with King Mrowen and the assassin. Addressing everyone in the room she said, "I have proof that a Jenefran who worked for Keelan murdered the King and tried to murder the Princess." She now addressed the other Jenefrans in the room. "Surely you remember that she was in mourning, seeing no one, when her engagement was announced. Neither King Morwen nor Keelan would let her back out. So, when her marriage was announced in front of the entire council and many of my crew, she had no choice but to run away. That is not a sign of guilt, it is a sign of desperation. Desperation caused by the man who manipulated his way to the throne." She held up the autopsy reports and Kali's own statement.

"I have proof that the Qunari did not start the war and that Keelan has been skinning the Qunari and selling their pelts for money." She pulled out a signed statement acquired when the fighters located a cloaked Ferengi ship near Jenefra. A little pressure from the Federation and Keelan was thrown under the proverbial bus. "Not only did he murder the Qunari and claim they started a war, he skinned them for their pelts and stole crystals they use for communicating and sold them to a Ferengi merchant."

She held up more papers. "I have statements from people who work in the palace that Keelan is behind the plot to discredit Kali in the eyes of her people. Of course he and his puppet will claim they are forgeries, but those of you who know Kali, who knew her parents, will recognize the truth of my words. He will say or do anything to maintain his power. But you have to recognize what he has done and give it the right label. Treason. Murder. Sedition. Do not listen to his lies. Look at the evidence yourself and make your own judgment. All my evidence will be on display in the main square where Jenefrans of every station will see the truth and know it for what it is."

Tate's expression instantly changed to shock with her eyes widening. She rushed over to York grabbing the papers from her reading over them. Without proper equipment she would have no way to prove their authenticity completely but upon initial inspection she could not simply refute them. Her mind raced as emotions of anger, fear, disappointment, sorrow intertwined themselves twisting her heart like a wet rag being wrung out.

Tears fell from her eyes causing her mascara to run. She remembered Mrowen and their talks. The man was such a kind soul, his words, his wisdom were so warming to Tate. She had dishonoured his memory by siding with the very man whom killed him. She felt disgusted with herself, how could she have allowed such a thing? She adored Mrowen and this was her repayment, treachery.

Sam pulled out a PADD and handed it to Jennifer. She had come prepared with two print copies and the PADD, just in case. "You should be able to use this. I don't know if I still trust the terminal you had before."

She took a moment to overview the data. York had been diligent enough to provide her with a PADD containing intelligence programming protocols to verify the authenticity of the data, she had used them countless times before. As she continued to review the data, her worst fears were confirmed. She handed it back to York looking her in the eyes, her mascara having run from her tears. "The data is authentic beyond a shadow of a doubt. Please excuse me."

This was all she said as she stepped past the Commodore walking through the door.

"Commander Tate, you are not excused," Sam ordered. "I still have need of you."

Tate turned to the Commodore just as she was about to exit. She did not say a word but looked to her expectantly.

Sam nodded to Keelan. "This matter is not over yet. Afterwards, we will talk." Her tone was kinder, but still firm.

"My apologies, I must take leave, im not feeling well." Jennifer said as she disappeared behind the doors.

"You are quite correct Commodore York, this is far from over." Keelan said as he did not give any intimidation from a lowly Military. "Just know that you do not have things as in hand as you believe." He turned to exit. "You have me leav." He motioned for the guards to assure York realized she is no longer welcome as he went out the same exit as Tate.

"Neither do you," Sam replied to the departing Keelan. "I have enough evidence to revoke Jenefra's petition to join Starfleet. Not while you lied to us about your attack on the Qunari."

But Keelan was gone. The guards were clearly not going to let her follow the King or Jennifer.

She turned to the rest of her team. "We'll be back." there really wasn't much they could do at the moment. It was dark outside. Sam would make sure her evidence was available in the town square at first light. "Hans, beam up the away team."
