Mission: Point of View

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

Galen smirked, "No you are not carbon-based or photonic, you are something different from either of us. We would like to understand what you are, and also help you to understand what we are." She walked over to the 'boy' but did not touch him. "The photonic image and associate files that you are using has been given the designation 'Harry Potter', but this is not who or what you are. We," she gestured at herself and the others, "are individuals - separate from each other, and we identify ourselves with names. We would like to know what to call you. Do you have a designation, a name?"

The computer flashed through images, not finding what it was looking for. Harry shook his head. "I am."

'NEW]

"Alright..." Galen thought for a moment, "You are you. Further classification is unimportant for now..let's move on." She casually placed a hand on the boy's arm. "This form allows you to interact with our 3-dimensional physical reality." She squeezed gently then released him. "That was a physical connection." She walked slowly across the room and back. "This is a physical space, I can move around in 3 directions: up, down and side to side. Do you understand?"

Harry touched his arm where Galen had pressed it, a little confused. It was a new experience to him. "Physical..." He again scanned through the database, images of his query flashing across the screen. He looked at the screen, then to the others in the room, then back at Galen.

"Yes, matter and energy reacting to and with each other." The attempted intrusions to the Holo-Core had ceased so Galen cautiously relaxed a few of the restrictions that she had made just enough to access some of the ship's databases. Not containing much data of the subject of the universe in her own database, she requested data from the ship's astronomical records. Galen hoped that 'Harry' would follow and review them with her. She was not sure if she would receive anything coherent, but to her surprise the records were intact. She quickly called up files pertaining to the universe: galaxies, stars, planets. She looked at how they were formed, how they moved. She focused on the milky-way, on the quadrant and sector that they currently were traversing. Then finally she requested data from the sensors, attempting to highlight their location.

Harry's eyes sparkled as it began to sift through the stellar data. But as it searched, the sparkle faded. Then it found Illise's data on the cosmic string and it focused in on that, and on the data from the other side.

Illise saw her data flash up on the screen and her excitement rose as it lingered over it. This entire interchange was fascinating, and the notes she had been taking would keep her busy for some time later on. If her theories proved correct, this was an entirely new (and very different) form of life; the kind of discovery some scientists strive for most of their lives.

Galen followed Harry's interest. "Why are you here?" she asked the question again, now that the entity had some context. "This is not where you belong, is it?"

Harry shook his head, his expression sad.

"We will have to find a way to get you home then" Illise said. How would they get him back through? She began pondering the problem, looking at it from different angles.

Galen was impressed by Harry's use of the photonic matrix's subroutines for emotion and expression. It was learning quickly. "Harry, while we try to help you, can you also help us? This object that we are in also supports the life inside. You have been exploring it's systems, I think trying to understand where you are. But in doing so you are disrupting their normal functions, which can be harmful for us. Can you restore the ship's systems to their normal operations?"

"Ship?" Harry asked. "Systems?"

"Think of it this way," Leroy interjected. "Unlike yourself, we need a breathable atmosphere, we are not very complex organisms. And your looking through our subroutines for where you are have done some pretty spectacular things but have put all of us non-photonic entities at risk of no longer being able to communicate with you."

The computer screen began to flash through the computer's subroutines as the entity tried to understand what was being said. Then it switched to the medical information on the humanoids. From there it switched to images of the crew working on the ship.

"I don't know if I just made things worse," Leroy said looking around. "Anyone else getting a bad feeling about this?"

Drani held up a hand to the entity before tapping a few commands into the her desk console. "Perhaps this will help." Soon images of 'Harry,' the computer core, various pictures of the crew and the Calypso and a large explosion. "Do you understand? You are harming us."

More images flashed across the screens as the holographic boy continued to search through the computer database. Mission logs, battles, historic scenes. Then all the screens went black and the computer resumed normal operations.

"Thank you," Sam said, giving "Harry" a warm smile. "Now let's get you back to your home."

Galen nodded in agreement, noting internally that the Core's connections to the Main Computer had stabilized as well. She sent a test-query and received the expected response. It was actually rather...comforting. "Yes, thank you." She smiled at 'Harry' as well.

Illise let out a sigh of relief, then tapped her badge. "Lieutenant Hale to Main Science."

=A= Lab three here. Sir, the computers a back up! =A= came the excited response.

"Yes, we noticed as well." Illise said, trying not to sound amused. "I need you to run detailed scans of the string and the rift inside. Also ready a probe. Let's get a closer look."

-^-Phoenix,-^- Leroy said after tapping his chest. -^-Hook up my Scorpion to the main computer and see if anything goes wrong. On second thought make sure its a secondary delta, one that doesn't get much air time.-^-

"Got it," Phoenix replied as she went to do what Mangalia asked. She came back a couple minutes later. "Everything checks green," she said. "We're up and running."

"Good. Since we're back to normal, let's get this boy home so we can continue on our way," Sam said.

"Harry" smiled. "Home."
