Mission: Point of View
ON
When things had returned to normal -- or as normal as they got on the Calypso -- Sam called Master Sergeant Mangalia to her ready room.
Leroy snapped awake, looking around his quarters. Looking to his right where the computer terminal say, he noticed that the Captain had asked him to meet her at her Ready Room. Scratching his head a little he grabbed a fresh uniform, a black can, and placed his knife back on his arm as he made his way to the bridge area. Stepping out of the Turbolift he walked around the bridge before hitting the chime.
"Come in," she said, standing to greet Leroy.
"Have a seat," she said, waiving to the chair opposite her desk.
Leroy cocked an eyebrow and at down, setting the can down before opening it. "Morning Ma'am, something amiss again?"
"Not exactly. I received the results from your courses," she said, her tone quiet and serious. "And your final grades."
"Well, might as well take that recruiting position after all," Leroy said as he took a large drink from his can.
She waited for a moment before smiling. "You passed with high marks. Congratulations."
Cocking an eyebrow he looked surprised as was. "Wait, I passed the OCS testing?" Smiling and laughing he leaned back in the chair for a moment with a smile on his face. "That's probably the best news I've gotten all month."
Sam was grinning now. "Not yet," she said, pulling out a box from her desk. "With your service record, you start out one grade higher." She slid the box over to him.
Leroy opened the box, showing a single silver bar. Ha eyes wide, he carefully picked it up like it was the most precious thing in the galaxy. "I do declare," he said with a smile and a fake Tennessee accent that was higher pitched than normal. "So who do I have to thank for this?" Taking off his Sergeants rank, he laid it carefully in the box and pinned on his new rank. "Now just two things before I accept Captain if that's alright?"
"You earned that rank," she assured him, although her letter of recommendation didn't hurt. "What two questions?"
"Well the Academy has asked me to do some recruiting for them for just a couple months and I was going to see what it was you thought about that, and the other is that I keep my barracks placement, and don't have to move to Officers Quarters."
"I'm fine with both," she said. "What would the recruiting entail?"
"Just some time in the Marines garrison on 001, maybe a little traveling, it would be three months tops and then I'd be back." Shrugging he smiled a little. "I was planning on asking for the leave I have saved up to do it with. But I didn't know if you would approve of losing the Scorpion Fighter along with me."
"Will you be going right away?" Sam asked. "We could arrange a transfer on our way to Jenefra."
"That would be up to you," Leroy said with a shrug. "I'm sure that they would be happier if I started sooner, and you would get me back much quicker as well. And as long as there is another ship on my way to 001, I can refuel and restock without having to spend to much time on their boat."
"That's true," Sam said. "And this mission to Jenefra shouldn't involve the fighters, so it might be a good time for you to go," she said. "That way, we can have you back when we need you."
"Well just in case you do need the fighters, I would like to place Bo in the Chief seat while I'm gone." He held up a hand with a smile before the Commodore could say anything. "Phoenix is tested and tried, and I would trust her any day of the week. But one day both Bo and his wingman are going to get commands of their own and they need a trial before they can even hope to accept it. The new pilot I haven't met but once, and I don't have a good feel for her yet."
"I wasn't going to question your decision," Sam said. "It's your flight and your call. Just come back when you can."
"Will do Captain. Anything I need to bring back from home?"
Sam shook her head. "Just you -- and anything you think you may need." She smiled at Leroy. "And congratulations again. If you have nothing further, you're free to go."
"Thank you Commodore, I won't let you down."
