[OLD]
"Good idea," Sam said. "And Hans, get someone to connect the steam train to life support."
"I will go down dere my self, it is goot to hav breathable air." Munich said glad that he has the flashlight to guide him as he went out the door.
[NEW]
[Turbo Lift - Deck 3]
Illise pounded her fists on the lift doors in growing frustration. She had already been late for the briefing. It had taken her and three of her staff fifteen minutes to catch a Montobian spider that had gotten loose in the specimen lab. Even then she would of made it if the damn thing hadn't bit her on the arm during the chase. While theresulting reaction was not dangerous, she would be scratching at it for hours, even after a quick trip to sickbay.
"Is anyone out there!" Illise yelled at the bulkhead. For all she knew, she could be stuck between decks. Her hip hurt from where she had been thrown into the side of the turbo lift when the dampeners failed, and she was starting to feel a little claustrophobic. Normally small spaces didn't bother her, but there was something definable wrong with the turbo lift. It moved in fits and starts, sometimes stopping so suddenly that she was forced to her knees. If that wasn't enough both the doors and the emergency access hatch were sealed shut, her comms were not working, and the only response from the computer was an eerie silence.
Sam heard Illise and again called out to Hans. "Lieutenant Hale is stuck in the turbolift."
"I have people checking the Turbo Lift Shafts." Munich responded. "Dere vill be someone dere soon."
The Main junctions were shut down, the switches cut for the turbo Lifts so if power came back on no one would be harmed while working in the shafts. It took a few moments for the Hydraulics of the doors to be by-passed and the car located.
Lowering to the top hatch the Young OPS man manually opened the Turbo Lift Car's hatch and using a flashlight checked it.
"Hello, Lt. Hale, are you in there?" The man asked loudly.
Illise heard someone outside the lift in the shaft above and moved to stand below the hatch. At first she wondered if it would even open, since it had been sealed earlier, but after a few moments she heard the locks disengage and it swung open. A flashlight moved about the opening eventually stopping to illuminate her below.
"Oh thank goodness!" Illise exclaimed at seeing the OPS technician. Ignoring her sore hip, she jumped up to grab the side of the hatch and climbed out of the lift to stand beside him. The young man handed her an extra flashlight, which she gratefully accepted. "Thank you." she said.
"Nothing for you to worry about ma'am." The Chief Warrant Officer said kindly. "Just to the ladder to the deck desired." The OPS man said. "I will be right behind you so don't worry as you will not fall I assure you." He shone the touch in the direction of the ladders.
Looking around inside the shaft Illise saw a sign indicating that they were on deck three. Turning back to the ladder they both began the assent up to the Bridge.
[Sickbay]
Galen paused mid-stride as she crossed the room to one of the new patients who had just entered sickbay. She had just tried to request data from the main computer and had received the most peculiar response. Instead of giving her access to the database the computer posed it's own query: Why is a raven like a writing desk?
Galen was baffled. The question was completely illogical. There were no similarities between a raven and a writing desk. She requested the data again, only to receive the same response. Immediately she checked the Holo-Core's connection to the Main Computer. It was stable, but there was something...unusual about the code.
“Curiouser and curiouser!” Galen said aloud. Why had she said that? 'Curiouser' was not strictly a real word, and most certainly not one she would use. She quickly identified it as a passage from an ancient human literary work, the same work from which the computer's odd question had originated. Instantly he initiated three different diagnostics: one on herself, one on the Holo-Core, and one on the code she observed from the Main Computer. Galen was so absorbed in them that she stood absolutely still in the middle of the room.
[Science]
Ronnie had yet to meet the new Chief Science Officer. She'd been so busy with debriefings and Intel interrogations that she barely had time to do her job. But, when the power went out, she remembered that Sam, when she was the Chief Science Officer, had set up backup power and a separate computer database in science for just such emergencies. It wasn't that science was more important than any other department, but with many in the department working on personal projects, there was a very real need to keep them from experiencing critical failures -- especially with some experiments requiring containment fields.
The inertial dampener failure sent her into a bulkhead. She slid to the floor and sat there for a minute until her head stopped spinning. Then she gut up, grabbed the light she'd been carrying, and began to make the rounds of the science labs, checking to be sure everything was okay. If she ran into the new Chief while she did so, all the better.
[Horus]
Jayna was on the Horus doing research when the power went out. It wasn't so much that power went out on the shuttle, but that Jayna could hear the crew reacting to the incident.
Suddenly there was a jolt as the ship came to a stop. "What happened?" she asked the ship.
"Jayna, from what I can gather, the power on the Calypso failed."
"I gathered that," she replied wryly. "Do you know why?"
"Negative."
"See what you can find out," Jayna said, going to her console. "I'm going to see if there are any external causes for this."
[Bridge]
Sam trusted Hans to take care of Illise and anyone else trapped in the turbolift. She went to her chair on the bridge and sat down, not because it would change anything, but because she hoped it gave her somewhere to sit while she organized the crew.
She tapped on her combadge, glad that it wasn't dependent on the ship's power. "York to Engineering. What's going on down there?"
There was no reply.
A small hatch on the bridge opened as Commander Tate appeared crawling out after having ascended the various maintenance shafts on the ship. She closed the hatch behind her and approached York. "Commodore. I've began to run preliminary checks on the systems to see if 'she' had anything to do with this. So far I haven't found any external intrusions or signs that either she or one of her proxies is responsible for this, doesn't mean I'm counting it out but until we find the problem, I'm certainly not liking this."
