Point of View
Location: USS Calypso - Operations Deck
Timeline: Before the Power Outage
Mara walked out of her office. A PADD in hand she took a quick glance around the area before focusing on the door to an office across from hers. It was open, and a light was on. She wondered over to the open door and knocked on the side of the wall.
Ethan didn't hear the knock. He was focused on the computer screen. There had been number of reports of little annoying issues with the computer. It hadn't been anything too crazy, but things like lights not working as they should, replicators not dispensing correct items...
Mara waited for a second, before she knocked again but this time it was a little harder, and it came in louder.
He looked up from the computer screen, and at the entrance into his office. He noticed Mara standing there. He quickly jumped up from his seat. "Hi, please come in." He said as he motioned towards an empty chair.
"Thank you." She replied as she walked into his office. She made her way to the empty chair. "I didn't see you last night at the ball." She said as took a seat in the empty seat.
Ethan followed suit and sat back down. He shook his head. "No, honestly it wasn't my cup of tea." He said as he got comfortable in his seat.
"So, what is your cup of tea?" She asked as she leaned back in the chair crossing her legs and resting the PADD on her leg.
"Hockey." He replied with a grin on his face.
"Isn't that an Earth game that is no longer played...?" Mara said. She didn't appear to be teasing. She kept a straight face as being very serious about the inquiry.
"Wow!" Ethan said as if he was offended by her comment. "It might not be played any longer on the professional level, but it is still very much so live."
"Oh, really?" Mara said, surprised. Before Ethan could say anything else she laughed.
"Oh! I see what is happening here..." Ethan said nodding. He couldn't help but smile. She had got him.
Mara composed herself after a couple of seconds then stated. "I'm very familiar with the game. I've seen it played. Never got a chance to play myself, but I am pretty decent at ice skating."
Ethan was pleased to see that there was someone else on the ship that seemed to be okay with hockey. There have been number of times that he has gone to play, and received a few weird looks as he traveled down the corridor in his hockey gear. "Well, if you are interested in playing...I have a holodeck program that I use often. I had originally purchased the program but then added other features into it. I even have a simulated league going."
Her interest was peaked but it wasn't as much about the game of hockey as it was about the program that he had managed to expand with his own programming skills. "I'd love to see that." She stated. "Think I can get my hands on the copy of the program files..."
Ethan thought about it for a second then nodded. "Sure, as long as you don't claim its your own work now..." He grinned teasing.
She shook her head. "I wouldn't do that. I'm somewhat of a programmer myself and I have developed couple of different programs so I'm just being nosy."
"I see...well you show me yours, and I will show you mine..." Ethan looked at her.
She looked away for a second then back at him and nodded. "Sure."
"Great. I will transfer the files to you right away." Ethan leaned forwarded towards his computer screen.
"Actually, you can do that later. I'd like to discuss something with you." She pointed towards the PADD.
Ethan nodded. "Sure. Games can wait."
