Cam smiled as he grabbed Frenatus' arm, "hi, we'll be your escorts today. If you attempt to make anything move, lift or make us see things, you will loose the use of you legs as I will sever your spinal cord" he said, sounding more like a pleasure cruise worker than a marine, "we hope you won't enjoy the next few minutes"
Frenatus glared at him, but didn't put up a struggle.
[NEW]
"Ow, did you hear that Commodore? I think this person just insulted me?" Cam called lightheartedly. Even though he knew that this guy could still be a threat, he wasn't about to let the opportunity to have some fun slip by.
Sam just shook her head and smiled.
Even in sandals the echo of her Model like steps echoed as she was entering the chamber; her steps like a model upon display and as natural to her as her steady breathing. The Smile upon her face was something like a cat after eating the mice. With Arnon and Hale walking with her through the doorway.
"Welll Samantha..." Spartacus began. "Seems your little display makes them very ..." She glanced over her shoulders to the people hovering near the door that had escort them here. "One little pushed thought into their heads after you held their God at bay..." She smiled. "They were kind enough to escort us to you with smiles on their face."
"How many of you are there?" Frenatus asked, his tone still angry and fefiant.
"Enough," Sam replied. "Now, why are you here?"
"To protect these people from the likes you you," he spat.
"We came here because we detected your technology. The Federation does not interfere in the development of pre-warp civilizations. We may observe them, but we do not interfere. I can't say the same for you."
"I am here to help these people survive," he said. "I protect them."
"From what?" Sam asked. "Not from us."
His glare showed he did not believe her.
Sam sighed. She gently probed his surface thoughts, then let him see just enough to show that she was telling the truth. "I am part Betazoid. We believe in honesty. You should now be able to tell that I am being honest with you."
He was not as strong a telepath as she was, but he was able to sense that much, at least. "That does not mean that others of your Starfleet feel the same," he countered.
"No, but we have laws to protect primitive species. If a member of the Federation -- especially Starfleet -- interferes, we have laws to keep them from doing so again. And we do all in our power to repair the damage. You'll have to prove to me that you are truly here to help or I will have to take you with us and let the people here survive on their own."
"You can't do that!" For the first time, Frenatus appeared genuinely concerned about the people.
"Why not?" Sam asked.
"Because without my help, these people would starve. Their planet is starting a 20-year long famine cycle. I can prevent that. But if they are left alone, they will die out."
Sam turned to the others, then back to the lizard. "We'll have to verify that when our ship returns."
Frenatus nodded. "I will work with you -- because I have no choice -- but I will not abandon this planet or its people."
"We could just knock him out and take him with us when the ship arrives" Cam suggested.
Kara couldn't help grinning. "Always an option."
Frenatus glared at both of them. "No. I have a century to help these people develop their potential, then I will return home and give an accounting of my labor."
"A century?" Kara asked, giving the lizard another careful once-over.
"My species is long-lived. It will take a century to get these people on the path to galactic maturity." He looked around at the humanoids. He had no choice.
They had his generator -- he could feel its diminished strength -- and they had reinforcements. He either had to give in to them, or admit defeat, and he would not give up on this people. "All right. We shall negotiate terms."
Sam studied him for a moment, not sure if she could trust the lizard's apparent change of heart. But all her Betazoid instincts said he was telling the truth. "All right. Let's go somewhere private and negotiate." She looked around the room. "Teenah, Arnon, you're with me. Cam, Kara, keep guard. Illise, see if you can find anything else of interest."
A group of men walked into the chamber. "We wish to be part of this conversation."
Kara looked up, recognizing several of the men she and Cam had met with in the village. "These are part of the rebel faction," she said to Sam.
"Okay, three of you can come with us. The rest, wait here."
She led the group into the back room, quickly scanning for anything odd, then sat at the table. She had a feeling that this would be a very productive meeting.
