She looked from Louis's gourmet tea to the waiter, holding back a grin. " Coke Zero please."
Once the waiter had left, she turned her attention back to Louis, though part of her was still musing over what had just happened. " Ah, anyway...where were we? Oh yes! Well, I doubt your feelings are often wrong." she told him, " I definitely wanted less people involved. It was only after a week or two of deliberating that I decided to have this talk in itself. But now you are here, and I am here, and none of us are going to forget anything so -- just got to deal with it!" she laughed weakly. She looked about the room again, looking impatient. " Where is he? Hurry up...!" she muttered under her breath. " If he doesn't come soon, I'll have to explain all of this by myself." she told Louis sheepishly. " And no amount of preparation is going stop me from failing to mention everything I need, no more no less."
"Olly olly oxen free kiddos," Apollo shouted as he came striding into the cafe walking nonchalantly. A lot of customers looked at him funny and the owner gave him a unfriendly glance. Apollo saw the Andorian wasn't happy a customer was making so much noise and shouted again, "Sorry mate, I'll keep it down a bit for ya, wouldn't wanna chase your customers away, now would I?" He winked to the Andorian.
"Just shut up and sit down," an authoritative voice behind Apollo ordered, "and stop embarrassing us."
Apollo looked behind him and saw Commander Martin walking in behind him. "Oi, hey buddy! I see you're in a good mood as usual," he sarcastically said as they both walked up the table where Maryam and Louis sat. They both took their seats.
"So, obviously Jonathan's here cause of Louis," Apollo guessed correctly. "Eh, no biggie. So, princess, have you and Louis started yet or were you waitin' for me..us?" He asked Maryam.
" Well, I was," Maryam replied, trying not to be further agitated by Commander Martin. This was going to be beautiful! But who was she to do anything but keep walking, blindly onward through the fire and hope for cool water on the other side? " Shall we?" She tried to concentrate on the fact that at least Apollo was finally here - or it would have been a two-on-one battle and she wasn't sure she would be able to survive even a fair match.
Once they were all seated, she closed her eyes for a moment and breathed out. Then she opened them. " Okay....ah...that's right. There's some suspicious activity by the Romulans and Cardassians on Vulcan, and I want to look into it. A contractor of theirs, a liason, is on Vulcan negotiating something on the behalf of a Romulan company patroned by Marula Lang. I can't tell you how I know. I just want to know if you can help." She prayed with futility that they wouldn't ask her how she learned this in exchange for their aid, but she knew it was coming.
Apollo eyed Louis and Jonathan for their reactions. Louis sat there emotionless, which was par for the course for him while Jonathan looked down at the table and let out a very quiet sigh.
"Help with what?" He asked her.
“ Help me look into it.” Maryam replied timidly, noticing their reactions - or lack of them. “ We know Marula Lang had a hand in the sabotage on Cardassia and almost started a war. And this is already suspicious enough that, um. My sources mentioned it. It could be nothing. But I don’t think that’s possible where Marula Lang is involved.”
“May I ask what “sources” you are referring to?” Louis asked curiously.
She paused for a moment before worriedly shaking her head. “ Um. I can tell you later, maybe, I’d rather not yet. I promised to keep their anonymity,” she added, a stroke of inspiration striking her. It was at least partially true. Those hackers hadn’t given her that device for her to tell everyone all about it. “ But they can be trusted.”
Louis smiled at her holding her ground in regards to not giving up her sources.
Jonathan leaned back in his chair for a moment thinking.
Apollo saw that and looked at Maryam, giving her an assured look, although he wasn’t too sure how the Commander would look at what he was just told since he, along with Louis, thought it best to leave the subject alone.
Maryam allowed herself to enjoy a moment of relief, and slowly breathed out. She knew she must look tense, even as she shifted in her seat to loosen herself. Her heart was racing and she was eager for it to slow.
Jonathan leaned forward again and rested his elbows on the table. “You know how I feel about this subject, but obviously you two,” he looked at both Maryam and Apollo, “won’t leave it alone and I can’t force you to stop your investigating unless I give you a direct order, which I’m not fond of.” He paused knowing full well they knew he wouldn’t give orders to them if it infringed on their personal business outside of duty. They were smart to take advantage of that.
“Why?” He asked Maryam.
