Mission: Of Gods and Men
Location: Whatever Starbase Calypso is Currently Docked At
Timeline: Present

“ Ah...why am I looking into it, or why am I um, asking for your help?” Maryam asked nervously.

“You didn’t ask for my help, I ordered Louis to inform me if anything like this should pop up. I’m asking why are you poking a sleeping bear. You know what Marula is capable of. What she did to my wife, what she did to Elim Garak, the Sunfire, and your brother.”

“ That’s exactly why I have to look into it. She shouldn’t - nobody should - be allowed to get away with doing all of this. If I even thought that anyone with power had an eye on her, and was ready to stop her, then maybe I...but nobody is watching out for her. Starfleet isn’t…” she shook her head, “ I’d like to think that more evidence to prove her guilt would give them reason to look into her further and try to undo her themselves. But without that push, nothing’s going to happen.” she thought for a moment. “ All that is required for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing.” she said. She smiled slightly to mark the fact that she knew she must sound dramatic, but she was adamant. “ If I don’t do it, nobody will.”

“Amen and hallelujah sister!” Apollo chimed in banging the table.

Everyone looked at him with a weird look.

“Hey, it was an empowering speech,” Apollo said shrugging his shoulders a bit embarrassed.

Maryam couldn’t help but let out a small laugh and she grinned widely at him, thankful that he had broken the tension.

“I assume you already know based on our previous experience with Marula that you are entering a dangerous game once again. After last time on Cardassia Prime, are you prepared if you pursue this matter further to go the distance and accept all the consequences that may, or, most likely, will occur?” Louis asked Maryam and Apollo.

Apollo deferred to Maryam on this one as he looked at her and nudged his head a bit forward encouraging her to answer.

“ Yes,” Maryam replied somberly, nodding. She breathed out deeply once more. “ Yes I am.”

“Are you two also considering that there may be collateral damage?” Jonathan asked, obviously referring to Marula’s penchant for targeting the loved ones of those who came after her.

“We have,” Apollo spoke up trying to ease some of the burden from Maryam’s shoulders. “We’ll do things differently this time,” He reassured the Commander. “I hope,” he said very quietly.
“I see no reason to stop them nor do I think you can unless you order them to. What they do on their own time is their business. The best logical plan going forward would be to help them,” he directed his words towards Jonathan.

Jonathan sat there thinking, looking at each of them. Again, another sigh. “What’s your plan?” He asked reluctantly.

“ I plan on going to Vulcan and attempting to look further into this. I don’t want to draw attention to myself - or Apollo - but I do want to learn what the liason is really doing there or what Marula’s company’s true intentions are. I thought that if you had any contacts on Vulcan, or any resources or information I could use - that you could help me by using them, Louis.”

Louis needed only a moment to think of a contact he could ask a favor from. “I do have someone in mind that could help. An Ensign Javier Silva who last I knew of was situated on Starbase 400, but he does like to move around a bit due to the nature of his job.”

“I don’t like this, but I won’t stop you all,” Jonathan spoke up. “I’ll help in any way I can, but you three have to realize we’re on a different ship now and we’re the new officers, so, the leeway will not be as big as it were on the Sunfire. I’ll see what I can do, but we could ask the new doctor of the Calypso to help with your trip to Vulcan by making you look Vulcan. Is it just you that’s going Maryam?”

“ That is a good idea,” The woman agreed - the doctor was quite nice and hopefully wouldn’t ask too many questions. Maryam had a feeling, however, that even if she did she would be very understanding. And it would help to have another crewmember on her side. “ As for going alone,” Maryam eyed Apollo. “ I hope not,” she said, raising her brows at him.

“Hell yeah, I’m goin’,” Apollo agreed with a big nod of his head.

The Commander sat up from his chair and before he left, “Again, I’ll see what I can do. Louis, make sure you give them as much help and intel as you can, especially from this Silva guy you mentioned.” He surveyed everyone at the table. “Obviously, it’s better if we keep this on the quiet side. Officially, you will be on shore leave, but keep in mind the dates you’ll need to be back onto the Calypso for our next mission.”

He started to walk away, but stopped and turned, “And remember even though you’re not on duty, be careful and be mindful of the laws on Vulcan. We don’t need a mishap nor any trouble, okay?” the last word was emphasized and he stared at Maryam and Apollo.

With that last word, Jonathan left the cafe leaving Louis, Apollo, and Maryam to themselves.

Maryam looked at Louis gratefully, trying not to feel slightly stung by Jonathan’s words. “ Thank you so much,” she said warmly, and was so full of gratitude that she could not resist rising to give him a quick hug. “ This means a lot. I guess,” she looked thoughtful, “That means I owe you, or something. Well, I’ll do my best when the time comes, and on Vulcan. Thank you.”

“You owe me nothing and you’re welcome, but it does not change the fact that what you two are doing is very dangerous and could have fatal consequences. I will do my best to assist you in any way that I’m capable of, but once on Vulcan, my limitations on what I can do will greatly increase. I may not be able to help at all. I will get you in contact with Ensign Silva as soon as possible.”

Louis walked away guiding himself in between the customers in the cafe carefully before disappearing through the exit.

“Whew!,” Apollo gasped wiping his brow. “Dodged phaser fire there! I thought it was gonna go much worse to be honest,” he smiled to Maryam. “You ready to tackle this mission?”

“ Haha, me too,” Maryam gave one final, loud sigh of relief and dramatically flopped back into her chair. Her heart had stopped being tense and now a sense of accomplishment and exhilaration coursed through her. “ Am I ready to tackle this mission? Hell to the yes to the yes!”
