"Thank you..." The words felt sluggish to him, but he continued. "Sam, get these people out...Talk to the Sergeant...he'll help."
'Not until you're okay. I'm not going anywhere until then. And I'm not going to let you fall asleep," she said sternly. She squeezed his hand back, not letting go of it. "Doctor. You need to come here now!"

After she has gotten the co-pilot stable, she asked a crewmember to keep an eye on her. Leanne stood up, ignored the dizziness that overwhelmed her for a few seconds and went over to the man that was seated in the chair. She pulled out a hypospray and injected it to the man's neck, as it was an anti-concussion medication. "What's going on?" She bent down on her knee and palpated the man's head to see how bad the cut was.
A Marine brought Damon's helmet and dropped it beside the doctor. "Lucky for him he was wearing this." A large crack ran along one side with a chunk taken out of the center of the crack.
"He's showing signs of concussion," Sam replied quietly, shaken by the helmet. If he hadn't been wearing it, he'd be dead. "He may have a skull fracture. The trauma area is fairly large."
Sam squeezed Damon's hand. ~Stay awake~ she told him telepathically.
She glanced at the helmet, "Yes, you are right about that." Does this lady named Sam, have any medical skills? She thought as she picked up the tricorder to do a scan. "He has a hairline fracture which is better than getting his skull blasted into pieces. He will remain unconscious for awhile till his brain heals...the medicine should help him recover quickly." She picked up a gauze and placed it on the side of his forehead, applying pressure to stop some of the bleeding. She had it wrapped to keep it in place so she can attend to another crewmember. "Keep an eye on him. I have to check the others."
"But, Doctor, shouldn't you reduce the swelling and repair the fracture before you go? So he doesn't slip into a coma?" Sam asked, hesitantly. She wasn't a doctor, but she'd learned enough over the years as a field archaeologist to have a basic understanding of first aid.
"Lieutenant Bowen, the Marines brought a Medic with them, if you need assistance," Sam added.
She was about to question Sam but decided to say another thing. "Let me be the judge of that, will ya?" Doctor Bowen looked back at Damon and continued to talk to Sam, "I do need another medic."
Sam nodded and went in search of the Marine. She found her. "Excuse me, you're the medic, right?" Sam asked.
The woman Sam was speaking to had just finished bandaging up a Marine who had taken some heavy debris to the face causing an orbital rim fracture; the bone around his eye had broken. Unfortunately for him, it looked like the debris had forced some bone fragments into his skull and severed the optic nerve to his right eye. He would likely never look out of that eye again. Still he was lucky to be alive. He was on restricted movement until they could get him back to the Orion to do a proper scan of how extensive the damage was.
After giving the Marine a quick pat on his arm, she stood and turned to the Lieutenant. "Yes ma'am. Private First Class Reid, Ma'am."
Sam smiled at her. "Hi. I'm Sam York, commander of this expedition," she said with a rueful smile. "I'd appreciate it if you could help the doctor. And make sure she's okay. She looks a little worse for wear."
Private Reid looked past the Lieutenant to spot the doctor attending to another patient. Looking back to her she let a tired smile stretch across her face. "Understood ma'am. I'll see what I can do."
"Thank you," Sam said with a smile. "And... Please keep an eye on Lieutenant Raine." Sam glanced over her shoulder to where Damon was laying down.
"I will." The Private suddenly realised that Samantha was limping herself. "Ma'am, have you had a chance to be looked at yet?" She indicated towards her leg.
Sam looked down. She'd forgotten about the cut on her leg and her sprained ankle. "There hasn't been time. Lieutenant Raine took precedence."
Reid motioned for her to take a seat. "Well, you take precedence now. Might not look too terrible now, but infection can quickly set in."
After Samantha had taken a seat, the Private quickly scanned the area before working to clean the wound. She was efficient at the task and within a brief few minutes the cut was bandaged and a tensor bandage was wrapped around her ankle for extra support. A hypospray was relieved from her pack and she dialled in a specific amount before injecting the Lieutenant.
"The wound looks pretty good. You look like the type who has experience a good sprain before, so I’m sure you know what to expect in terms of swelling." She gave Samantha a sideways smile. "I also gave you a local anesthetic to deal with the pain, though it was only a small dose. I would give you more but..." The Marine looked down the length of the hopper and took stock of the number of wounded.
"Yes. Save it for those who really need it," Sam said, completing her thought. "Yes, I've had a few sprains. I'm an archaeologist. Sprains are not that uncommon on site."
"Good, you are used to the outdoors. That knowledge will be useful while we are down here. Besides," She said with a grin "The Marines hate having to tuck in you Starfleet personnel."
Sam laughed merrily at the mental picture. "And I usually hate being tucked in by Marines, so we should get along just fine. Please, call me Sam. There are too many Lieutenants around here." Sam took a few tentative steps and smiled. The limp was almost gone. "If you need anything, let me know."
