Mission: Deadly Diplomacy
Location: Various

Sitting in his office, Cam was reading over the latest intel report on the situation in Romulan Space. It wasn't looking good, not since the Klingons had made their push to reclaim several systems they'd lost to the Romulans centuries ago. Not feeling comforted by these reports, Cam put his head back, closed his eyes and reached out to Kara, ~Kara, are you busy?~ he asked her ftelepathically.

"Nothing I can't leave until later," she answered.

~Well, when you get the chance, come find me in my office~ he replied, wanting not to give to much away. As he sat there, he reached down into one of the draws in his desk and pulled out a small velvet box, "I think it's about time I did this" he said to himself before putting the box into his pocket and going back to work.

Kara finished her squadron's readiness report and headed for Cam's office. She was curious to find out what he wanted to speak to her about.

When she arrived at his door she rang the chime and waited for him to open the door.

Hearing the door chime, Cam hoped it was Kara and no one else. Standing from his desk, he walked over and opened the door, "Ah Kara, thanks for coming, come on in"

She stepped inside and paused as the door closed behind her. Cam was nervous about something. Was something wrong, she wondered? "What's up?" she asked quietly.

Taking a deep breath, Cam smiled, "I'm going to ask you a question and all i want is a yes or no answer" he said before pulling out the velvet box from his pocket and kneeling down in front of her, "Kara Melo, would you do me the honour of becoming my wife?" He asked, opening the box to reveal a thin golden ring with a deep red Ruby mounted on it

For several moments she said nothing, tears streaming down her cheeks. She slowly sank to her knees and hugged him, no longer able to contain her joy as she both laughed and cried. "Yes. Most definitely yes."

Returning the hug, Cam removed the ring from it's box. After a moment, he pulled back, took hold of Kara's hand and placed the ring on it, "I love you Imzadi, and I never want to loose you again"

"I love you, too," she said just before she leaned in and kissed him. "Imzadi."

Braking the kiss, Cam smiled, "I can't imagine what it was like for you down there, I'm sorry I didn't get to you sooner"

Kara let her head drop onto Cam's shoulder and tried to keep the images of the prison and the arena from Cam. "You found me. That's what matters."

Feeling her mental walls going up, Cam sighed, "Kara, you don't need to hide things from me. There's nothing you've seen that I haven't already seen myself"

For several moments she thought about it. Yes, she knew he had been through worse, but she wasn't sure how he'd feel about seeing her in those situations. Then, slowly, she lowered her mental shields.

Feeling her barriers lower, Cam processed the images that filtered through, "you didn't seem to have that bad a time. The mines were far worse than that"

"No, the arena wasn't that bad. It was when you were taken back to the guard area," she said quietly. "Even there I was fortunate. Beckinsail was beaten. For a while, we thought Spartacus was killed."

Although he knew it was serious, Can still tried to make lite of the situation, "it sounds like what happens after a party, someone gets beet up and someone always looks like they're dead while they're asleep in the corner" he said with a smile, hoping to life Kara's spirits, if only a little.

"Yeah, and some poor girl ends up getting raped," she added. Then she shook her h ead, not wanting to go there. Amrylis and Teenah would get counseling. Kara had been lucky. For whatever reason, she'd been left alone.

"Sorry, Cam. I'll be able to joke about it in a while, but it's still too raw. I've been trained to kill or be killed, but it's still tough when you have to do it."

Cam sighed, "I know how you feel. The scary part is that after a while you get used to it. The faces start to blur together and it just becomes a job."

She pulled back so she could look him in the eye. "I don't ever want to get to the point where it's just a job," she said flatly. Although she hadn't been assaulted, as a Betazoid she could hear what was going on and it made her sick inside. She never wanted to get to the point that it didn't affect her.

Looking at her with an emotionless face, Cam sighed, "sometimes it's not your choice. There are times when you just see so much death, so much killing that it becomes a daily routine"

Kara knew that, in some parts of the world, this was still true, but she wasn't going to let herself get to the point she expected it as part of normal life. Still, she knew Cam had been through some rough times himself. Without a word, she wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him.

Putting his head on top of Kara's, Cam gave a sigh. He hoped that what Kara had said would turn out to be true and that she'd never have to see or experience the things he had during the Dominion War. "With so much hate and anger in this galaxy of ours, I'm glad we can still fine moments like this. Moments when we can just forget about everything and just sit here in each other's arms."

Kara was happy to stay where she was for now and so she just nodded.

"Computer, lock the doors and tint the windows. Than play some quiet music" Cam ordered, closing his eyes. After a few moments, he spoke again, "Well, I guess the big question now is what kind if wedding to have"

"I'm happy with small and simple," Kara said, smiling softly. "How about you?"

Cam shrugged, "I don't know, would you be happy with York conducting the ceremony? Just a friends and family thing aboard ship?"

Kara began to sway a little to the music. "I would be happy with that." She nibbled on his ear and smiled. "It's the end result that matters."

Cam smiled, "I thought you'd want an intricate, complex wedding with flower girls and hundreds of people, but it sounds like you'd be happy to head on up to the CO's Ready Room right now and ask her to conduct a quick 1,2 ceremony"

"Too frilly for my taste," she admitted. She wrapped her arms around his neck and smiled. "Simple." She kissed him briefly on the lips. "Quiet." She kissed him again. "No fuss." She kissed him again. "And then a Marine Arch for the others." She kissed him again, this time taking her time. "But you haven't told me yet what you want."

"Honestly, a simple military wedding would be the best I could ask for, and if all you want is something simple, I'm happy with that"

"Perfect." She grinned happily. "And now there's just one thing left to do." She leaned in closer and kissed him again. "Celebrate being home."
