Mission:
Revenge
Location: Kara's quarters
Timeline: Right after A Drink to Calm the Nerves
ON:
Walking along the corridors of the Marine Deck, Cam and Kara were heading back to her quarters for the night. Against his better judgment, Cam had decided to stay the night with Kara instead of locking himself away to allow the memories bubbling up from his subconscious to take their course.
As the walked, Cam could feel Kara's head leaning against his shoulder with her arms wrapped around his. He felt comforted by this, which helped him to start to relax. As they walked into her quarters, Cam led them into the bedroom and sat down on the end of the bed.
Kara sat next to him, almost shyly. They'd been together before, and spent most of their time in each others' company on the planet, but it felt a little odd now that they knew who they were again. "I can't believe I'm nervous," she admitted.
Cam smiled, "you're afraid this is all a dream and were still back on that planet" he said, putting his arm around her shoulder and pulling her in close, "does this feel like a dream? Am I a figment of your imagination?"
She wrapped her arms around his neck and lay her cheek against his shoulder with a contented sigh. "No. It feels wonderful."
"Come on, let's get some sleep" he said, nodding towards the pillows laying on the head of the bed
Kara chuckled. "Computer, lights," she said just before joining him.
The next few hours went by without incedent as the two of them snuggled up together. However, as if out of no-where, Cam started to toss and turn, letting out the occasional grunt or moan.
His head was spinning with images of Jem'Hadar attacks, Marines laying on the ground dead with their eyes open looking at him and to top it all off, the final image of his old Marine Corp spotter, Sergeant Carter, dieing in his arms after she was shot in the chest by a Cardassian Disruptor Rifle.
Cam's tossing and turning woke Kara. Flashes if images raced through her mind as she saw and felt her Imzadi's distress. "Cam," she said, reaching out to touch him. "Wake up." He was getting more agitated as the images grew darker and more horrific. She shook him gently. "Cam, wake up."
Springing awake, Cam looked around than jumped Kara, flipping her over and pinning her on the bed. His breathing was erratic and sweat was pouring off of him.
"Cam," she said, using both her voice and her telepathy. "It's me, Imzadi. Wake up." She focused on staying calm, on reaching out to him. If she panicked now, if she let herself get scared, Cam would sense that and might react badly. However, the option to scream her lungs out was still there, if she needed it.
Even though Cam was lost in a haze of memories, he still heard Kara's voice as an echo. As he listened for the voice, his mind slowly began to clear. As his mind cleared, so did his vision. Seeing Kara pinned beneath him seemed to to be the final link needed to wake him up. Looking disoriented, Cam bit his lip, "did I hurt you again?" He asked, worried that he'd snapped again
"Almost," she had to admit. "But you stopped when I told you to wake up."
Giving a sigh of relief, Cam rolled off of Kara and moved to sit on the edge of the bed, "I guess I still need some more theropy sessions"
Kara moved to sit behind him and kissed his shoulder. She was relieved this episode had ended so well. "You're improving," she assured him. "It's taken you years to get to this point. It won't go away over night." She lay her cheek against his back. "It's okay, Imzadi. You snapped out of it."
"I don't think I would have come this far without your help. I'm glad that you can use our bond as a leash of sorts" Cam said, pushing the images to one side of his head, "come to think of it, I'm glad I don't need an injection to get some semblance of sleep anymore"
"I'm glad," she said. She gently ran her hands along Cam's back. "Are you going to be okay?"
After a few deep breaths, Cam nodded, "it'll pass, I'd say the nightmares are so strong right now because of the way our memories were returned to us. They'll be close to the surface for a while, but eventually I'll bury the ones that need burying"
It made sense, and she understood. At the same time, she hated to see him like this. "Is there anything I can do to help?" she asked.
Turning around, Cam grabbed Kara's hands, "for now, just be with me. Whenever you're around, it feels like putting some cool cream on a sunburn, cooling, soothing, relaxing"
She squeezed his hands and smiled. "Of course. I love you." She was still a little shaken from his flashback, but each one was less violent than the last. She had no wish to leave him when there was so much promise for their future together.
Cam smiled, "I know" he said, before leaning forward and kissing her on the cheek, "get some sleep, I'll join you in a few minutes" he said, standing up from the side of the bed and walking over to the replicator, "Computer, herbal tea blend 60"
"Okay," she said. She rolled over and pulled the blanket up. 'Don't be too long."
Cam smiled, "I won't" he said, taking the glass cup from the replicator and taking a sip of the blood orange coloured liquid inside. After a few minutes, drinking his tea, Cam put the glass back into the replicator and sat down in a chair in the corner of the room. On occation he enjoyed watching Kara sleep, it tended to help calm him down to remember how lucky he was to find her. This was his chance at a family and he wasn't going to let it go for anything.
