As soon as the coordinates had come through, Leroy pulled his fighter into position and shot forward. Deep space was no place for a pilot, since ships needed to be repaired and refueled. And his Peregrine was running low. As the Calypso came into view, the shuttle bay door opened, allowing Leroy to slide in snugly and land. Galaxy class ships hadn't usually come with a fighter department, but it was good to have. Sometimes the smaller enemies needed a taste of their own medicine. Clicking the landing struts into place, Leroy started the power down sequence. Twenty minutes and his bird was cooling down in dock, the mechanics coming forward from their break room to look over the new one.
Looking over his orders quickly, he spotted his office in the launch bay, and tossed some of his gear in there, the other things being left in the bird until he could be given quarters. Stepping into the cooridors, he looked left and right, then stopped a passing petty officer, asking where the Marine Quarters were.
"They're that way Sarge. And its good to see you back." Walking along, Leroy looked at her, confused by what she had said. He had never even heard of the Calypso before being sent here, and he would have remembered a half Klingon Petty Officer. Nope, they didn't seem to be at all the same. Shaking his head he started towards the Marine area, spotting the S-1, or where the Commanding Officer would sit, and walking over to knock on the side of the door.
Sitting in his office, Cam was going over the duty roster for the next month when he heard a knock at the door, "Enter" he called out, looking up from his console.
Leroy stepped inside, smiling. "Morning boss, I'm the new Wing Commander, and I figured we'd be working together and wanted to meet the men and women I'd be serving this tour with."
"I'm a little behind with my paperwork sergeant. Transfer orders?" Cam said, holding out his hand.
Leroy handed over a padd, and still continued to smile. "I've gotten that way before Lieutenant, it passes. How long have you been with the Calypso?"
"Long enough" Cam answered, looking over the orders, "so you'll be the one to deliver my marines to the fight. How long have you been a pilot and how many missions have you flown?"
"No, I'll be the one taking out enemy fighters, or knocking down shields while my men take yours into the fight. I've been doing this long enough." The humor was still in Leroy's eyes, but the smile had dropped from his face. Like a shark, he was waiting for the right time for his sarcasm to explode from out of no where, killing the helpless seal in front of him.
"Understood" Cam said simply, bringing up the barracks layout, looking for somewhere to put this new marine. "Do you require any special accommodation? If not, I've got a spare cot down with Delta Squad in bay C3"
Pulling out a second padd, Leroy handed it over. "I'll be bunking with my pilots, same level as my fighter bay. Keep your cot, it may get filled if one of my pilots don't meet my criteria. I was coming down here so you'd meet the new Wing Commander, not enlist with your ground pounders. If needed in that capasity, I'm sure that the Captain will let me know."
Cam grinned, "and what makes you think I'd want your rejects? My marines are the best. I'd take a squad of my 'ground pounders' over your fly boys any day" he said, looking over the second PADD, "If there's nothing else Sergeant, welcome aboard"
"All of my so called rejects are also trained in ground tactics, in case we're forced down." Smiling, he looked around the office. "If you need me, you know where to find me Lieutenant."
Cam gave a nod, indicating he understood, "you're dismissed Sergeant. Get your flight into gear"
