Mission: What Dreams May Come?

ON

Samantha turned to Khalpek. "Have you found a way to track Vigo the Carpathian?"

"The radiation signature the being is giving off is quite peculiar. I have reset the internal sensors and I am getting some pretty good readings. I can't give you a specific location, but I can give you a deck and section." Khalpek answered.

"What are they?" Sam asked.

I'm not sure. The computer has never seen anything like it before. It is a consistent pattern though, whatever it is."

Then she turned to Jourdan. "Are the buffers in place?"

"Yes, and we can link them into the ship's shields in a few minutes" Jourdan replied.

"Wonderful, thank you," Sam said.

She then turned to security. "Are you ready as well?"

"Aye, when you are."

Sam tapped the comm button on her console. "York to sickbay, is medical ready?"

"Lavender here and yes."

"Thank you. I don't foresee any problems but you never know how all the telepaths will respond to going psi blind."

"Warrant Officer, Kamala, we're all set. Get into position."

"Yes sir," he replied to her, "I'm rather fond of my mind, baggage included, the way it is. Let's try not to cut this too close if you don't mind.'

Maria walked onto the bridge, bringing a PADD to Khalpek. "Science is all ready, ma'am."

Sam nodded to Kamala. "Indeed. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, let's find ourselves a stowaway."

"If there is nothing more for me now sir, I'll be going down to take a little nap." the Warrant Officer said.

Sam smiled. "Pleasant dreams, Warrant Officer."

He managed to return the smile, "Let's hope they are not, for everyone's sake." he half muttered as he turned to go.

Sam tapped the inter-ship comm button. "This is Commodore York. All personnel, please report to stations for Operation Sandman. York out."

[20 Minutes Later]

Sterling wasn't quire sure why he had volunteered for this project, but it was too late for second thoughts. He lay on his bed and slowly allowed himself to drift off.

"Okay, Jourdan. It's time," Sam said when the 20 minutes was up.

"Aye" Jourdan replied. She turned to the console next to her and pressed a few buttons bringing the systems online. "Activating in three, two, one. Activated"

"I'm showing a huge radiation spike in the crew quarters area." Khalpek reported.

Robert was still siting in Davy Jones' Locker "Time to start operation sandman huh. I think I'll just sit here" he said to himself before he started singing 'Enter Sandman' by Metallica

His body and mind lacking energy Eamon had been on his way to where his sensed more people but now, on some deck he didn't know, he lay down on the floor and fell asleep. Security that had been chasing him caught up and quickly seized him. They carried him to the nearest brig.

"Security team 1 to York, we have Lynx. He fell asleep, clearly whatever is going on has drained energy from him."

"Take him to sickbay. I hope this means he'll get better now. Keep me informed."

"Aye,"

Sam was in her ready room when Jourdan put up the barrier to block psychic and telepathic energy. The world suddenly went silent. There were no sounds, no thoughts, no background sounds that were a part of her everyday life. The suddenness of it made her dizzy.

===

Gaia sat in the empty lounge reviewing and placing and order of supplies needed. When everything went suddenly black and she felt as if she were in a thick black misty fog. She moaned and put her head in hands. "No, no, no."

Lizzie chose to stay in the arboretum. She had loud music playing to drown out the sound of her trees telling her how hungry they were. Suddenly it grew quiet. "Computer, turn off music."

She sat for several moments, listening. There was nothing. She carefully got up and walked out of her workroom, half expecting a tree to should boo when she got closer. But nothing happened. She walked all the way around the inside perimeter of the arboretum and heard nothing.

Smiling happily, she returned to her workroom to get herself some cookies and ice cream to celebrate.

It slowly became cognizant that the thoughts and dreams of the little creatures was gone. Had it pushed too hard again? They were still strong of mind and body, still feeding it dark, intense emotions, filling it with rage and hatred. It craved more, it needed more. And now, there was silence. All but one. And it was now slipping into that dark place that was so delicious.

The creature slid towards the one, drawn to the promise of another feeding. Gently it reached out, tiny tendrils of thought and emotion, touching the parts of the brain that would stimulate the endorphins, release the nightmares, release the energy that would allow it to feed.

Sterling had always been a trusting soul and now he ws trusting his new friends and allies on Calypso not just with his life, but with something far more valuable to him, his sanity. Hemade himself relax, to slip into a deep sleep, not knowing exactly what to expect, but knowing it would not bode well for him if the plan didn't work.
