[OLD]
"Yes well it can get pretty windy up there, I was caught in a storm once. Not a good thing. I don't think we want to try to free climb that."
[NEW]
"No, I wouldn't think so. Even with the safety parameters set it would be a little scary," Maria agreed.
"Yeah, tell me about it. I've done it twice at the actual place. The first time I was scared sh... I was terrified, let me put it that way."
"Yeah, I think I would use anti-grav boots. Cutting through a jungle or searching in a cave, I'll do in a heartbeat, but I'm not so sure I'd want to free climb something like that -- especially in the wind."
"You know we've been talking about what I like long enough, tell me more about what you do for fun. You mentioned looking for caves and hacking through jungles. Tell me more about that first, if you don't mind."
Maria grinned. "Not at all. As I said, I grew up in the Yucatan. There are still ruins that haven't been discovered and more lost civilizations than I can count. So I would read the old tales -- or what's left of them -- and go out into the jungle and pretend I was a part of the tale." She chucked, knowing it sounded silly. "Part of me is still a romantic but now I like to explore and see what hiden treasures I can find. Even if it's a waterfall or a rock formation or even a cave spider. There's so much out there to see." She stopped talking and gave him an apologetic smile. "I also love camping and being out in nature. They kind of go hand in hand. I love holodecks for when I can't get to a planet. They keep me sane. I think I'd go nuts or be like Lizzie and move into the arboretum."
"I like exploring new things myself. New discoveries its why I joined Star Fleet, or the biggest reason anyway. And there is nothing wrong with a little romance, nor is there anything wrong with pretending.
I've written some interesting holodeck programs and like being creative. Maybe if you're still speaking to me after we climb Spider Rock, I can write something special that include the things we both like, or does that sound stupid?"
"No, I think it sounds interesting. I'd love to see what you come up with." She finished the last of her French fries and took another sip of her sangria.
He gave her a smile and ran his hands through his short hair, "Good I'll try to be creative. Do you like survival type scenarios?"
Maria raised an eyebrow. "Depends on the type of survival. Jungle and mountain, definitely. Do you?"
"Yes, I do. It challenges the body and mind, both of which I like." He paused rubbing unconsciously at the spots on the right side of his face. "One of my favorite simulations combines survival with cat and mouse. A shuttle crash lands in the mountains and the survivors have to travel from there through a desert while being chased by the Cardassians. I could change the desert to a jungle or just add it if you'd like."
"I like the mountains, too," Maria assured him. "So it's fine if you want to keep it as is."
"Well good, I'll just keep things the way they are then. I usually set the saftery protocols at 70%. Its enough to actually feel the cold and heat and perhaps get some minor injuries if I'm not careful. But I can adjust those settings one way or the other if you'd prefer that."
"No, I think they're fine. What's the fun in going camping if you can't feel the cold?" Maria said, grinning.
"Well remember its not just the cold you'll be feeling its the Cardassian disruptors, but I'm willing if you are."
"I'm game," Maria assured him, downing the last of her sangria. "I'm torn between trying to get some sleep and going for a swim." She looked at her chronometer and sighed. "Much as I'm enjoying your company, I have to be on duty in four hours and I should try to sleep -- the operative word being should."
"Well, I'll be going myself then." He enjoyed swimming, enjoyed it alot, but the idea of swimming with a woman he found attractive was a really, really bad idea.
"Let me know when you want to go on the holodeck," she said. "See you later."
Gaia stood up and left the captain of the Calypso alone as she moved through the room she cleaned tables and stopped to chat with a few folks before she went to go see what else she could do else where.
Sam watched the others in the room for a while, enjoying the atmosphere of the new place, then she got up, thanked the staff and headed back to her quarters to try and get some sleep.
