Mission:
A Pirate's Life
Location: Holodeck 2
ON
The ship cleared the tiny cove but it took a bit of work to do so. That was why Sam liked it so much. Unless you were looking for it, you couldn't see it. Still she didn't want to take any chances with ships sailing around the island to look for them.
If anyone came by land, there were rocks and cliffs in the way. Only someone who knew the meandering patch could find it. But, with the way things were going at the moment, if the Black Pearl stayed someone would find them.
By going to a nearby deserted island they had a greater chance of remaining unseen. Especially as the island held little in the way of food and water. Enough for several days, but that would deplete the small island's resources. Still, the creator of the program made sure the pirates could find plenty of places to hide if necessary.
Just as the ship was going out of view Manning siting in the crow's nest caught a view of not one set of sail's but two. This could be bad he thought to him self jumping down from his perch look over to Sam and sighed "I have some bad new's"
"What's the news?" she asked.
"well good news is I don't think they know where we are. Bad news is there is not one but two ship's out there and i would be so bold to think they are not just looking for us but hunting us down." Manning said very seriously trying to get his point across
"I think you're right. We'll have to avoid this place for the next little while." She hoped Cam, Kara and Amarylis managed to get away. If not, well, tomorrow they'd begin their journey to Victoria Island.
"Well I'll start moving vines so not to raise suspicion". Robert said getting the feeling she knew how bad this could get.
Sam breathed a silent sigh of relief when they arrived at the island without encountering other ships. Right now she was not in the mood for a battle. All she wanted was to get her crew together and get off the holodeck.
The narrow cove on this island was accessed by sailing far too close to the cliffs and using manpower to move the thick vines. Sam didn't dare cut them for fear of drawing attention to their passage. It took an hour of slow, careful navigation to get to the cove.
"Secure the sails and drop anchor. We'll stay her for a day or two to get the others back," she ordered. "If any of you leave the ship, stay close."
Malcolm helped insure the sails were secured properly, he didn't want anymore issues than there already were in this crazy holodeck."This is the last time I come into this crazy contraption." He said seemingly to no one.
Sam glanced his way as she passed, but felt it better to let him deal with the situation as he saw fit. "Secure the rigging. Drop anchor!"
She continued to bark orders as the ship was secured and a lifeboat lowered into the water. "Lovok, Manning, you're with me. The rest of you, gather some fruit. Not too much. Don't make it look obvious. Just enough to add to our meal tonight. And find fresh water!"
She found some driftwood and set up a small conference area to talk to her two officers. When they were assembled she began to talk softly to make sure they weren't overheard. "We need to let Bourne and the others know where we are. Suggestions?"
"To tell the truth I'm out of ideas considering what we have to work with," Marek said annoyed with himself. A moment later an idea came. "Smoke signals?" He asked.
"Maybe as a last resort, but if we send up smoke signals we'll attract every ship for miles. I really don't want half the British Navy coming after us." She paused for several moments. "Keep working on the computer. See if you can contact anyone outside the holodeck."
[Later]
The breeze came to a sudden halt and everything around them froze. Birds stopped mid-air. Even the water in the waterfall froze. Each of the pirates were also locked into place.
Sam looked around, taking in the bizarre effect of the frozen program. "Computer, end program." With everything locked up, it was worth a try, but again there was nothing.
"Marek, what's going on?"
It occurred to Marek that Jourdan might have shut down the ship completely. When everything froze that would be the logical thing to think. ~ What are you a Vulcan? ~ He asked himself as he did spend a lot of time with Vulcan friends and although they were frustrating at times their calm did help Marek develop his own. "Looks like a systems restart Commodore." He replied and he was glad that they would be free to leave the holodeck soon, that is unless something else goes wrong.
"I hope you're right." Much as she loved this program, she was looking forward to getting back to the 'real world.' "At least we don't have to worry about the British," she added with a smile.
"Yes it will be good to get out of this," Marek said absently.
Manning was working on the last vine caught in the rigging and just got it free when it froze mid air "what the" he said as he looked around really quick to see if his mind was playing trick's on him he noticed every thing was frozen well at least the program was "Bloody Ash's" he said aloud on accident.
"A good sign, Corporal Manning!" Sam told him. "It means they're trying to fix the problem. That or the program has crashed. Either way, we've got some breathing space." It was always better to look on the positive side of things.
