Mission:
A Pirate's Life
Location: Calypso (various)
ON
=^="Vance to Abbott, why have you not corrected the power drains? Why is power still being diverted to the holodecks? I think it is time for Commodore York to be released from the program and apprised to the situation."=^=
Jourdan sighed, those command officer's wanted everything doing right now and sometimes it wasn't always possible.
=A= Abbott here, the holodecks have their own independent power source. The rest of the ship is shut down, however the relays to the holodecks are fused. I've got an engineering team working on it now sir, however since they are in EV suits its taking a little longer =A= Jourdan replied.
Vance rubbed her eyes and sighed. =^=Miss Abbott need I remind you this repair is to be time sensitive. This ship has operational requirements to fulfill. If your team cannot meet this timelines then I suggest you find more personnel. Use the custodial staff if you must!"=^=
=A= Yes Commander =A= Jourdan replied back, she wondered if Vance had ever heard of 'too many cooks spoil the broth'.
"Right then" Jourdan said looking around at her staff in the emergency lighting. "Bittern can't hold this much power for long. So lets get to work, we've got very minimal power and only short amount of time before the loco runs out of coal. Lets purge that computer core" Jourdan said as she indicated several of her best officer's to follow her to head to the computer core room.
[Computer core room]
Five minutes later Jourdan and her team arrived in the computer core control room. Infront of her the huge computer core of the ship loomed above them.
"Right" Jourdan said as she approached the dark core. "Isolate the main back up unit and then we need to pull all the processors, all three hundred of them and wipe them with the magnetic eraser" she explained.
Clicking open the hatch on the core's back up unit, she isolated any power that might be still flowing and then got ready to pull it out.
=A= Abbott to Vance. I need to warn you sir, once we pull out the computer processors and start wiping all computer activity aboard ship will shut down. That includes the holodecks and what computer systems we have left. We will have power provided by Bittern but no computer interfaces. Is everyone ready? =A=
=^=We were ready an hour ago. Get it done Lieutenant."=^=
=A= Standby =A= Jourdan simply replied.
"Get ready, we need to do this quickly" Jourdan explained. "Pull one out, wipe it, slot it back in" she ordered as she redied her self. "Three, two, one, go!"
Jourdan yanked out the backup unit. The other engineer's started to pull out the processors one by one and wipe them before slotting them back into the core. Jourdan put the backup unit in the engineering case safe, ready to restore the computer's main operating system and memory before the virus.
She turned and started pulling out the processors with the others.
"Lets do this quickly, with no computer activity this ship is nothing but a giant floating piece of metal" Jourdan explained.
[Bridge]
Lizzie heard what little life that was left in the computers die. "I hope that's a good thing," she said. "I really need ice cream and cookies!" She looked over to the ops officer. "It's the best comfort food out there."
[Science]
The power not hooked to the backup system went out, followed shortly by the backup system. The dark was not just the abscence of light, but more of a physical sensation. Khalpek held her breath subconsciously and yearned for the light to return.
[45 minutes later]
Jourdan slotted processor three hundred into the computer core and turned to face her engineer's. "Good job guys". She carefully took out the backup unit from the case and pushed a few buttons on its lid to reset it to before the cirus even entered the Calypo's systems. With a heave she pushed the unti back into its port at the bottom of the core. Immediately the console lit up infront of the core. "Brilliant" Jourdan said with a smile as she pulled herself upto the console. "Establishing computer control to Engineering".
=A= Abbott to Vance. We've done it commander. Engineering now has full control over the ship. I'm on my way down to restart all primary systems. Is everyone alright? =A=
=^=Yes Miss Abbott, I do not recall anyone in history being harmed by toggling a light switch. Now if it wouldn't inconvenience you too much, please get control back to the bridge where it belongs...."=^= Vance said flatly.
Jourdan simply clenched her fists. That woman was just getting on her nerves, a simply thank you would have been nice, not a sarcastic remark.
[Engineering]
Jourdan rushed into Engineering and ran straight into the office near the warp core. She was glad to see the consoles all working correctly and the computer core restart program flashing on the screen. She ran her hands over the console and watched in awe as the programs were loaded from the back up unit into the main computer core's processors.
"Its working, its actually working" she muttered as she watched the computer restart itself.
After a few minutes Jourdan had all computer control on her console. "Commander. I'm going to restart the warp core and bring main power online" she announced as she pressed a few buttons. A low pulsing sound could be heard in Engineering. Jourdan looked up at the large Galaxy Class warp core, and slowly as the grey tube began to turn blue and pulse, getting stronger and stronger. As soon as the core reached its operating level the lights came back online along with all consoles and main systems. "Commander. All primary systems are back online and operating at 97% efficiency. Some of the seconday systems will be online shortly. However, we're back. Plus, I can now safely shut down the holodecks" Jourdan explained. She crossed her arms and smiled, at least now the Calypso was back in the running.
"Yes Lieutenant, have power re-routed from those sub systems to compensate for the three percent deficiency. Commodore York's vacation has been long enough as it is."
Jourdan glared at her console resting her palms on its smooth edge. "Excuse me commander, but this is not a simple repair. Yes, I can shut down the holodecks, yes, I can reboot then entire system, and yes, restart the warp core and eliminate the Borg Virus in the system. But commander, this ship isn't a simple machine. Please be patient, these systems can't be rushed, and if we rush them we could end up blowing out half the relays on the ship which would leave us; once again; dead in space. Now I need to get the holodeck emergency systems back online before we even attempt to open the doors".
=^=Then I suggest you get to work Lieutenant."=^=
Jourdan waited for the channel to close before turning to her engineers. "I'd best get upto the holodecks. Someone finish cleaning up here, before our nice Executive Officer finds something else to break or complain about" she ordered as she started on her way towards the turbolifts. Obviously she hadn't performed enough miracles today.
[Deck 15]
Eamon was flying through the corridor with tricorder in hand scanning for people. He used a phaser on low setting firing against the wall to slow his approach. Just before he made contact with the wall, both the lights and the gravity plating came online, Eamon came down to the floor with a thud and a groan. "Ouch," he rubbed his rear as he slowly got to his feet. "Hey the power is back," he stated the obvious and he was great at it.
He decided that with power back his task was now pointless as life support would be active now and the decks no longer need evacuating. Eamon determined he should return to the bridge.
