Mission: A Pirate's Life

ON

The Black Pearl was safely anchored in Sparrow's Cove, a tiny hidden cove on the far side of Curry Island. For years it had been the safe harbor for the ship and her crew. That it was both hidden from view and difficult to get to made it ideal as a hideaway.

This time, the crew took their share of the loot and hid the rest in a nearby cave system. Now they needed to take the long trek 'round the island to a medium-sized town with a popular port where they could buy some food and learn the latest gossip. They never resupplied here as it was too dangerous, but they had enough supplies stored away to hide out for several weeks if necessary.

Marek hadn't much interest in playing along with the spoils of piracy thing but he was intrigued by how resourceful Pirates were back on Earth during their prime. He did enjoy, to a degree, the lack of technology and hardship they had for it was a refreshing change to Starfleet life.

But the current situation was somewhat different as they couldn't leave the holodeck and so being an engineer Marek had to get to work. Sadly the only good piece of news was they could alter the programs parameters but limited to adding things not changing what was already in play.

While the crew had left the ship Marek was at the small holodeck interface and some of the paneling lay about him as he looked at the internals of the console.

Cam was out in the town with Kara and a few of his Marines, all dressed in period accurate costumes. He'd left three Marines on the ship to guard it while the rest enjoyed some 'shore leave' so to speak.

Kara had ditched her "pirate gear" a kilometer outside the town where it wouldn't be seen. Hiking from the ship through the brush and woods was more than she cared to try. Especially if she wanted to appear like she'd been on a boat and not romping about in the woods. Nothing would raise suspicion more than a woman in disarray. Still, it was nice to be on solid ground and she was curious to see what the town had to offer.

She glanced over at Cam. "So, where to first?"

Cam smiled, "well, I was thinking we should check out the local pub. Surely this town can serve a decent pint"

"One can hope. As long as you don't get drunk and start a brawl." The last thing she wanted was to go back to Sam and report that the Marines were all in jail awaiting trial because they got into a bar fight.

Cam smiled, than put on a pretend pout, "aw, come on mum, can't we just skip the drinks and go straight to the brawl?"

Kara punched him in the shoulder. "Behave."

"Oh but Staff Sergeant, there's no fun in that now is there?" Amarylis smirked giving a wink to Cam.

"I'll go for a drink, but I want no part of the brawling. York will skin us alive if we get in trouble," Kara said. Especially now with the safety protocols not working properly.

Smiling at Kara's ultimatum, Cam turned to Amarylis, "it's alright Sergeant, it'll be better if we kept a low profile anyway. From what I've heard, this isn't exactly a safe port for, buccaneers, if you catch my drift" he said, trying to avoid using the word Pirate, "let's just find a Bar, grab a table and have a few drinks. It'll just be like the 602 club on earth"

"That I can do. Let's go." Kara nodded. "Lead the way, Cam."

Looking around, Cam spotted a small Bar sitting off to one side, looks harmless enough he thought to himself, "how about that one?" He asked, pointing over to the Bar just as a small group of mussel-bound sailors walked into the building

Kara wasn't so sure about it, but then, she wasn't sure about any of the bars around here. "As long as you promise to behave," she said, eying each one of them.

Cam sighed, "yes mum"

Kara resisted the urge to smack him again. Instead, she turned and walked into the small bar.

The inside was one large room with a bar along one end and a number of tables scattered around the room. Most of the tables were full of sailors and locals relaxing after a long day of work. Several called out lewd requests or whistled at Kara as she looked around for an empty table.

She found one near the fireplace and took a seat.

Cam stood at the door for a few moments longer, looking over the room, maybe this wasn't a good idea after all he thought, before following Kara to her table, "please tell me you've brought a knife"

One side of her mouth twitched up in a half smile. "I always have a knife."

Two other Marines followed Cam. A minute later, a buxom waitress walked over to Cam. The neck of her blouse was wide enough to reveal her ample cleavage. "Welcome to The Blue Dolphin." She leaned closer, giving Cam an inviting smile. "What's your pleasure?"

Cam smiled, "four pints of your best Ale" he said, turning to the waitress

"Four pints it is." She disappeared for a few minutes, then returned carrying four large pints. She leaned over Cam to plop them in the middle of the table. "Four pints." She winked at Cam. "Let me know if there's anything else you need."

Cam smiled politely, "I'll be sure to keep that in mind" he said, picking up his mug, "Semper Fi"

"Hooah" Amarylis replied raising her mug and taking a sip from it."

Kara took a sip of her ale to disguise her smile. Served the wench right. It would do none of them any good if she had to pull the woman's hair out. Especially as she was the one who told the others not to start a fight.
Kara gritted her teeth. Could the woman BE any more obvious? She considered telling the woman she wasn't needed, but it was really up to Cam if he wanted to accept her invitation.
