Mission:
A Pirate's Life
Location: Engineering
ON
Ronnie walked into Main Engineering and looked around for Commander Vance. She didn't want to yell or draw attention to herself, but she was a little agitated. If her theory was right, they were in a lot of trouble.
[DECK 19]
Eamon had collected several of his security personnel and they had donned enviro-suits so they can help cover more of the apparently forgotten decks. The Inaran's empathic senses helped dramatically as he didn't have to waste time searching every room.
He had met up with the security team as they had seemingly finished. "How many did you not get to in time?" Eamon didn't want to think about any deaths but it was just another reason they had to work faster.
"We got to them all in time sir, with emergency breather packs they should be heading to Deck 20."
Eamon smiled. "Well done all of you! Lets get to the next deck."
[DECK 18-17]
Thanks to a lack of gravity and tricorders the personnel were easily found by Eamon and security. Again when they were done providing emergency breather packs the survivors made their way to Deck 20.
[ENGINEERING]
Ronnie looked at Vance. "I found something in the computer." She handed the woman a PADD with what little evidence she had of the Borg virus.
Vance instantly recognized the data before her however she could not recall all the exact details of it. All she remembered was that she had implanted the virus whilst the Calypso's shields were weakened.
"The virus was implanted into the computer during your first encounter with the Rhombus." Vance stated plainly.
Ronnie then turned to Jourdan. "How can we get the power back on?"
Jourdan sighed as she looked up from the console. "The only way I can think of, is to do a complete manual restart of the ship" She explained. "We would also have to wipe clean the computer cores, then re-install the operating systems and save any data we need in the auxiliary computer core. However, it would leave us defenseless and without power for at least an hour".
Ronnie turned to Vance. "Unless we can get a hold of Commodore York, it's your call."
"Commodore York is not available. I want full power within the hour. Allocate whatever resources necessary." she ordered.
Ronnie turned to Jourdan. "I don't know enough about computers to create an anti-virus, so it looks like your way it is."
Jourdan stood there a little shocked, who did they think she was? Georgi La Forge? Montgomery Scott? B'Ellana Torres or even Charles Tucker? She had no idea how she was going to get the entire ship shut down and restarted in less than an hour.
Ronnie turned to Vance. "If it's okay with you, Commander, I'll head down to the science department. I'm not sure who's down there, but there are a number of experiments that need to be taken care of so they don't cause more problems. It has its own power and will need to be shut down manually once the ongoing experiments are secured."
"Unless these experiments are mission essential your presence is required here. Once power has been restored you can return to the laboratories." Vance replied sternly disgusted by how she could be more worried about her experiments vice the ship.
"The experiments aren't mission-critical, Commander; but if they aren't taken care of and the power goes off, there are a couple that could fail critically and knock a hole through several decks. I would think that important enough to warrant my going down there."
"Is there no one else in your department with the capacity to handle this situation Lieutenant? I find it hard to believe you are the only member in your department with the ability to handle the experiments."
"I can't contact anyone in science, Commander. I don't know if there IS anyone in science; so no, there's no one else. I'm not going to take the chance that someone down there will consider that we need to shut off all power and will therefore go around securing the ongoing experiments. It is far more likely they'll simply wait out the power outage as that is WHY we have a secondary power supply." Sam understood. But then, Sam was the one who set up the secondary power supply and science database to begin with. Vance wasn't a scientist and Ronnie wasn't in the mood to take the time necessary to try and explain herself. She wanted to get to science, fix the problems there, and then explain when there was more time.
"Commander" Jourdan said crossing her arms. "I'm sorry sir, but I'm going to be straight with you. There is no way in the name of Starfleet that I can shut down this ship and do a complete restart in less than an hour" she said standing firm. "First, we need to set up a series of emergency shelters with mobile life support units. Once life support goes offline; and it will the air we have right now will last about twenty-five minutes, maybe forty at most. So we need to move everyone to a place where these units are, we only have seven aboard. And don't trust the replicators, not with this virus" She stopped and walked over to the MSD at the rear of Engineering.
"Now. I suggest that these be placed in Ten Forward, for everyone on decks nine through nineteen, since there's no power there anyway. Cargobays, three, four and five. Sickbay, The Bridge and Engineering. I'm sorry for being so straight with you, but we need to get people moving now and those units up and running. Only then can I start the shutdown procedures, and then after that I will have to completely purge every sub-routine and command code in the computer core and wipe it clean. Its not going to be a simple turn it off and turn it back off again job, this is a Starship not a Tricorder".
