Mission:
A Pirate's Life
Location: The Brig
Timeline: After "Old Friend's, New Business"
ON:
Lieutenant Crater stood at the ready, watching the prisoner in the brig with vigil eyes. He wasn’t sure why the Chief Of Intel was in the brig, neither did he care. All he knew was he had a job to do and it involved making sure he stayed there. His combadge suddenly went off followed by an unfamiliar voice.
=^=Lieutenant Carter to Deck 5, please. All officers required for a fight.=^= The voice sounded male and unfamiliar to him, but he couldn’t risk the not going if this was an emergency.
Carter tapped his combadge and cleared his throat. =^=This is Carter. On my way.=^= He tapped his combadge again and looked sternly at Damion. “Don’t go anywhere. I’ll be right back.”
Damion raised a brow and couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m in a brig. Where am I gonna go, Lieutenant?”
The Lieutenant looked at him and nodded quickly, running out the doors and leaving Damion alone for would only be a few moments.
After those few moments the lights went out and came back on, slightly dimmed. A smile came over Damion’s face as he saw a familiar face standing in front of the console. The figure gave him his own smile and walked over to the force field.
“Good to see you, Max. I take it that fight on deck 5 is your idea?” Damion said softly with a smile as he stood up and walked to the force field. He hadn’t seen Max in a while and this normally comes with its own secrets in tow.
“Fight on Deck 5? I have no idea what your talking about.” Max answered with a slight smirk as he put his hands behind his back.
That was about the kind of answer he would expect from Max. A hint of something, but full of nothing that resembles a conformation of anything devious. With a slight laugh he cleared his throat and nodded.
“You put yourself in situation you weren’t supposed to put yourself in, Wolfe. We didn’t expect you to be thrown into a full blown court martial. You risk exposing your mission because of your hot headedness.” Max said with a slightly raised voice and shook his head a bit before ending it in a sigh. “Now, we have to push forward in out plans. It’s time for you to break out.”
Damion raised a brow as he crossed his arms over his chest. “Which will make me a criminal and fugitive. Ronnie, Captain York, and not to mention Starfleet, will never trust me again.” He shook his head and let out a sigh, knowing this had gone too far. He should have taken it slow, involved more people, but working in the Black Op’s division in Starfleet Intelligence does have its drawbacks.
“Which is exactly what we need to happen. Your fall from grace is exactly the bait we need to lure Strife out of hiding. Putting you back on his roster and in his inner circle will put you in a position to bring him down. Bringing down Strife is key the operation. If possible leave the Night Star in one piece.” Max paused for a moment, clearing his throat and then smiling. “However if necessary, and you didn’t hear this from me, take her down.”
“Covering Intel’s mistake.” Damion said softly.
“Ensuring a future problem. In the right hands it was supposed to be a great tool for Starfleet Intelligence and the Federations allies, in the wrong hands, the Night Star is dangerous and could be hazardous to the survival of the Federation. You see what happens when we focus on getting the job done then getting it done properly. You can thank the higher ups for that.” Max let out a sigh and smile as he tilted his head, looking to Damion.
“And my career in Starfleet suffers for it? Not that much of a trade off if you ask me.”
“I spoke to Admiral Burke. I informed her of our mission and she has assured me that she would help clear your as best as she can.” Max smiled as he put his hands behind his back. “She and I have an understanding when it comes to our line of work. She trusts me enough to know that our intentions are good, however sometimes problems occur. I show up to correct these problems, like I am doing now. With you and your situation.”
“So busting me out is gonna make things okay?” Damion let out a slight laugh. He didn’t find it funny, it was more a laugh showing his nervousness when it came to Max’s ideas. He knew it would involve some risk on his part. “What’s the cover?”
“I am here to act as your advocate in your court martial, however your not going to make it to it. In the middle of transport, your going to become a very dangerous man.” Max smiled a bit.
“Why don’t I like the way you said that?” He replied with a soft and nervous laugh.
“We have a few inside players to ensure you make it out in one piece. Your going to have to play your part to a key. Without mistake. Feel free to take the Cerberus in Shuttlebay 1. She is a nice ship with a few secrets you might find useful.”
“Wait… Thee Cerberus is here?” Damion was surprised to hear that the prototype Type 11 shuttlecraft, Max’s baby, was onboard and he was willing to give him the keys for his escape. “Your gonna let me use the Cerberus? What’s the catch?”
“The catch is that you make sure nothing bad happens to it and I get it back it one piece. Took me a long time to get Intel to give me that shuttle, then to set up special additions that took a while to clear. I had to pull a lot of favors for her. Don’t let me down, Wolfe. Don’t make me have to get another.”
“I’ll do my best to keep her in one piece.” Damion couldn’t help but smile. Maybe, on board the Cerberus, he can unlock more about the mystery of Max then anyone else. “What’s the play?”
Max took a step closer to him and smiled. “You still a good marksman?”
Damion gave him a curious look. He didn’t like where this was going and he already knew it wouldn’t end well. As he heard the plan, he couldn’t help but worry about his relationship with Ronnie. He knew she would never look at him again after this. It broke his heart to know that he relationship would be gone after this, but maybe he could salvage it. Maybe.
