945 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Subjugation
Location: Miranda-class ship

ON

Maria and Lizzie walked into Engineering to see if they could help the others with the power.

Maria walked up to Jourdan. "Science looks fine. All it needs is power and it should be operational."

"Bridge consoles are working, with the jerry-rigged power systems." Maddison's voice came through the ship's comm-system. "I also disabled a few of the tripwires they left behind. Some rather inventive stuff. I'll have to commend them in a report."

--Engineering--

-^-Keep me away from those-^- Leo said with a laugh. He was doing his best but Engineering wasn't his forte, blowing things up was. Kicking the panel he was at, his console lit up like a Christmas tree, making him smile. "There we go! Hey I think I got shield controls up!"

"Now, if you could just keep them on," Maria joked, coming up to Leo.

"I'm sure he can," Marek said sarcastically. "Okay I see the environmental systems are now online. Give it an hour to fill the ship with atmosphere." He smiled.

"I'm sure I can too if I can keep kicking the console," Leo said looking over the controls until they flickered and died. "Oh come on! You've got to be kidding me!" he yelled in his helmet at the screen before beating the face of the console with a gloved fist. The console hummed and popped back on, with no flicker and even the buttons displayed correctly. Last time they had been upside down. "Next?"

Maria didn't know much about Engineering, but she knew how it related to science, so she found the appropriate console and began to work at restoring power to the science department.

Lizzie assisted her, handing over tools as necessary.

Jourdan popped out from a Jeffiers tube at the back of Engineering.
"Hey, guess what!" She said. Before they could react she had jumped up and over the Warp Core rail and was opening the dilithium compartment. She fiddled around in there before slipping it back in.

The entire core began to glow and within a few seconds it was humming like the Calypso's used to.
"She may be old, but with a few adjustments we've got a reaction" She said. "Starting it from cold was hard, but we're online" She said. "Start to bring on the rest of the primary systems"

Maria grinned. "Macanudo!" She quickly began to bring science online.

"Great work everyone!" Marek praised and worked at the power redistribution systems so throughout the ship things came to life.

"I'm heading to the bridge," Maria announced. Everything looked good for science, but she needed to see how it worked on the bridge. They would need that station to scan for other ships as they made their way back to the Von Braun.

She slipped into the turbolift, which was sluggish, but worked, and headed to the bridge.

Lizzie, not comfortable in engineering as she really new very little about it, headed for the mess hall. If nothing else, she could see what state the food supplies were in. She stopped by where the others were working. "I'm going to check out the mess hall. Okay?"

== Bridge ==

Maria stopped in the doorway of the turbolift. "Computer, lights." Nothing happened. "Figures." She pulled out a flashlight and looked for a panel. "Maldito eres," she muttered. She wasn't an engineer, she was a scientist. And she wasn't that up on her old ships. "Computer, por favor, lights."

The lights flickered, dimmed and then steadied at half-light. "Gracias." Not wanting to risk the wrath of the computer, she hurried over to the science station and began to work on getting it up and running.

Maddison looked to Maria, questioningly. "What's wrong? Can't you air breathers see in the dark?" She asked, from under the helm/tactical console she was in the process of rigging, out of what was supposed to be the navigational console.

"No," Maria answered, not wanting to expound or start trouble. She'd learned to steer clear of the Mermaid whenever possible. "But I'll remember you can next time we need someone to effect repairs in the dark."

Without another word she climbed under the console and began to work.

== Mess Hall ==

Lizzie found the mess hall. It wasn't too hard once she got off the turbolift on the correct deck. There was limited power on this deck, but no atmosphere. Which was a good thing. As she searched the kitchen at the back of the large eatery, she realized that it was full of refrigeration units and storage cupboards. And stoves.

For once she was glad of the lack of environmental controls. The same environment that kept bodies from decomposing also kept the food from rotting.

She pulled out her tricorder and checked the air. Still unbreathable, which meant she couldn't make herself something to eat.

So, she decided to do an inventory of what was available for future use, and how much of it was still good.

== Engineering ==

Jourdan smiled as the core of the ship held steady.
"Our next priority is transporters, and defenses. Lets get what we can" Jourdan explained. "Lets see if this still works..." she said. "Yellow alert". To her suprise the ship jumped to Yellow Alert status and the warning lights same on. The USS Torchwood was getting ready to rescue the crew.
"All right!" she said. "lets hop to it, chop chop!"
