[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

Sam was relieved to feel the mental shields reform. It meant that a part of him was returning and, hopefully, that he would soon be in full control again. She glanced at Ronnie who didn't seem to be faring quite so well. She was clearly distraught by Damion's struggle. But this was something both Damion and Ronnie would need to deal with, so she stayed where she was and watched.

He stood there for a moment. Letting out a sudden feeling of calm in his mind. "Honestly? I was just looking for a way to ask you to spend the night. I didn't want to come off as too forward, you know?" Damion smiled and then laughed. "Scientists." He shook his head slightly "You wanna spend the night, Lancaster?" He spoke softly as he held his hands as if he was holding someone and bringing them closer. "Just because I asked you to spend the night, doesn't mean anything is gonna happen. Not unless you want it to." He was slightly nervous, but that didn't stop him from speaking. "You know... I'd break a lot of agents hearts if you and I ever- " He turned his head quickly "Ronnie? I didn't hear you come in. Did Lora let you in? I told her not to let anyone in because I was having a private conversation." He closed his eyes, putting his hands on his head. He was regaining his abilities and control over them. Locking them off faster and faster this time. "Vanya is a very close friend... she is practically like a little sister. An older little sister, but it's only because she is small. She is like 5'3"... adorable little thing." He laughed a little and then stopped. "Ronnie, just come talk to her, please. You'll see the worry I am sensing from you now is completely unnecessary." Damion stopped again, opening his eyes and looking out. "Ordinary?" He felt insulted now "No.. Ronnie." He spoke softly. "In my line of work I never got too attached to people. Mainly because I never knew how long I would be around. I never meant it when I said those words to anyone... until now, anyway." He held his hand out, as if running it through some ones hair with a slight smile. "If you were empathic, it would be easier because you would feel it from me, but your not. Please trust me when I tell you that I do love you and its far from ordinary." Suddenly, without warning he looked back and threw his hands out, as if pushing someone. "Ronnie! Look out!" He fell to the ground and was quiet again, now completely in control and back to being who he was.

Ronnie was crying openly now. She stayed where she was, unable to move or speak.

"Everything will be okay now. Thank you, Stran." Sam signaled to Stran and Cassandra to step outside with her and leave the other two alone to work through whatever still needed resolving.

Stran nodded, imperceptibly. Cassandra helped him out. Stran appeared to be absolutely exhausted.

Ronnie wiped the tears from her eyes and walked over to Damion. She knelt beside him and gently caressed his cheek before leaning over and kissing him. "I love you. Please be okay," she whispered.

Damion opened his eyes a little bit and smiled. "Hey look. An angel." He smirked a little and then added a slight laugh. "Hey, I have something for you." He said weakly, reaching into his side pocket. Slowly, he removed the retractable baton from his pocket and held it up to her. It was the same one he gave her for Christmas.

She put her hand over his. "I have my present. I have you again." She squeezed his hand, her smile a little shaky. "Are you okay?"

"You know how they say 'When your about to die, your whole life flashes in front of your eyes'? Mind grabbing a doctor and making sure that isn't happening?" He gave her a bit of a laugh and then smile. Damion knew he was here the whole time, but it felt like he was away from her for forever. He gripped her hand, still in a weakened state. "If that ever happens again, smack me. Really really hard. Just don't hold anything back." He laughed again, groaning a big afterwards from the headache.

Ronnie chuckled softly and lay her head on his chest. "There were a few times I wanted to do just that, but I was afraid you'd hit back." Actually, she was afraid he'd shoot her, but she wasn't going to tell him that.

"Or shoot you." Damion laughed in response, unaware of the symmetry of the comment. "Ronnie, every time I looked at you. I knew it was you, but I wasn't responding how I wanted to." He sighed a bit, trying to recall what memories actually seeped out and which ones stayed in. "What happened? Just now, I mean. Why does my head hurt so much?"

"Stran performed a mind meld. He brought back your memories." How much did he remember of Johnny? She wasn't sure she wanted to ask.

"Next time, remind me to ask him to focus more on the mind and less on the meld." Damion laughed slightly and then slowly got up, helping Ronnie up with him. He placed his hands on her shoulders and smirked. "We can talk about it later or some other time." He leaned in slowly and kissed her passionately, bringing her closer to press her lips to his, deepening the kiss.

It had been far too long, and Ronnie was ecstatic to have Damion back. She wrapped her arms around his neck and returned his kiss with abandon.
