Subjugation

ON
Samantha had two hours before she had to report in to the night guard. If she moved quickly, she'd have an hour in sector 8 before she had to turn back.
As always, she kept her eyes and mind open for signs of Damon or any of the Calypso crew.
She walked around a corner into a small courtyard and saw a familiar face. "Cassandra?"
Stran held up a hand, as he sat next to the semi-conscious Cassandra Levue. She was exhausted. "Captain. It is agreeable to see you again." Stran said, with a nod.
"Must.. be... dreaming." Cassandra mumbled. "I hear the Captain's voice..."
"You're not dreaming," Sam assured her. "It is very good to see both of you. Are you all right?" she asked Cassandra.
"With special commendations to Ensign Stran, yes, I am in fairly decent health. He, however, is suffering a rather rudely sprained ankle. Possibly, even a broken one." Cassandra said, with a tone, indicating more concern than a subordinate would normally gather from a section chief.
"If I can get you to Sector 5, I can take care of both of you," Sam said, looking around. "Do you belong to this sector?"
"We haven't been stopped, actually." Cassandra said, with an odd look.
"At least," Stran added, "Not by guards."
"What do you mean, not by guards?" Sam asked.
"Klingons, and Vulcans, and Pakleds, for certain, but the guards have not closed off, even a curtain." Cassandra said. She shook her head. "Sorry, blame him." She added, pointing at Stran. "I've got too many people running around upstairs."
"Klingons and Vulcan I've seen, but Pakled? I guess they could be around here somewhere. I've yet to meet everyone -- or find everyone from the Calypso." She eyed Stran and Cassandra critically. "Can you both walk?"
"Yes, but..." Cassandra trailed off.
"We're looking for someone." Stran added. "Someone you may know, though not necessarily by the name of 'Chuck Norris'. We do not suspect he is far. Perhaps two work zones."
Sam was getting more preplexed by their answers. "Someone I know? From the Calypso? Why is this person going by Chuck Norris and why are you looking for him or her?"
"This person wisely chose, given that he was left alone, that going by his own name may be hazardous for his health, in the future, given what he has likely had to do to survive." Stran said, with a raised eyebrow. "I'm fairly certain it would make an appropriate movie, were a screenwriter, or producer, to come across it."
"Daniels." It all fit, although she couldn't explain why. "I'll need to find him later. Right now, I want to get the two of you back to Sector 5."
Was that an order? Cassandra thought. More to the point...
"I'm sorry ma'am, I can't do that." Cassandra said, with a harsh tone. "We're this close to finding him now, and we're not about to leave him alone, any longer."
"No, it's not an order," Sam said, Cassandra's thoughts too sharp to overlook. "And I'm not leaving ANYONE behind. Not you, not Stran and not Daniels. The question is, are you in any state to talk to him or should the two of you seek medical help and safety while others look for him? I can assure you, there are several of us looking for the rest of the crew."
"Ma'am, I've got my thoughts, Stran's thoughts, Stran's father's thoughts, Stran's mother's whimsical poetry, and her thoughts, and Tramira Kyt, rolling around through my head right now. I don't bloody well care what state we're in, as I'm not sure which one of us you're referring to. I do know, that come hell, high water, you, or anyone else on this prophet...Surak...Whatever... forsaken rock, my team functions best as an entire team. I intend to find them, and then, I intend to find everyone else, and remove anyone who stands in the way." Cassandra exploded.
Stran raised his eyebrows. "Easy on the Kyt. It's an intoxicating substance banned in four empires."
Sam leaned closer to Cassandra. "You forget yourself, Lieutenant. This happened on my watch and I won't let anyone keep me from bringing my crew back. ALL my crew. That includes you and all your thoughts. You're in no physical condition to find your team. I am. So get your butt and the rest of you to Sector Five. Once you prove to me that you're fit for duty you can come back here and find Daniels. I will NOT lose you and him because you're too blind to listen to reason. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?" She didn't yell. She didn't have to. Her tone, although quiet, spoke volumes.
"We're not on duty, ma'am. I don't bloody well care what you think." Cassandra said. "You are not about to lose me, nor Stran." She added. She paused. "Daniels could be in trouble. Or worse. I'm not going to be able to rest, or heal, or do a damn thing until I get him back. You can be as clear as you bloody like. Let me make myself equally clear. I. Don't. Care."
"I'm your Captain whether you're on duty or off and I DO care." Sam punched her in the jaw hard enough to render her unconscious. Sam took a quick look at Stran. He wasn't in a position to help her, so she picked Cassandra up, draped her over her shoulder and turned to the Vulcan. "The logical thing would be to come with me to some place safer than this sector. Hur'Rak is not in a very forgiving mood right now. When you're both fit, you can come back and find Daniels."
"Captain, with due respect, your actions have not been any better than hers." Stran noted. He raised an eyebrow. "You are not capable of assisting me, and carrying her, at the same time, and I cannot walk unassisted. In addition, I seriously doubt she will be in a good mood, when she awakens."
"No, she won't," Sam replied, smiling wryly. "But right now it's more important to get you two away from here. Hur'Rak is in a foul mood and it's not safe to have any sort of affiliation with me right now." She gave a low whistle and two men slipped out of the shadows. "A necessary precaution, I"m afraid." One took Cassandra from Sam and the other helped Stran to stand. "Now, if you prefer, the two of you can go with Patri and Jolen. I'll stay here for a bit longer and look for ... Chuck."
"If you would have given us such an option in the first place, physical altercations could have been avoided." Stran said, pointedly.
"YOU I could reason with. HER not so much. She wasn't about to leave here and I wasn't about to argue with her. Look, the longer we stay around here, the greater our chances are of running into Hur'Rak again." Not that she was afraid for her own life, but she didn't want to have to kill anyone if she didn't have to. Not even someone like Hur'Rak. "Sorry. Put it down to a really bad day."
"As, are we." Stran said, with a frown. "Cassandra is unfamiliar with the constant low-level telepathy that she can understand beyond reflexes. It has been stressful, especially given the amount of personal shielding that I have had to award both myself, and her, for specific events. If we could find Ensign Daniels, and Ensigns Tyler, I'm fairly certain that handling her slightly muddled thoughts could be relatively easily done, with a few meditative sessions."
Sam nodded. "Understood. I'll keep an eye out for them. So will Ronnie. She and I go out every night looking for the ... others. If you think they're in this area, we'll focus here. For now, the two of you need to get some place safe. Then you won't have to worry so much about your own safety."
Sam signaled to the two men who began to escort Stran and Cassandra to the base camp in Sector Five.
