[Sickbay]
Doctor Bowen waited for the transporter to bring Doctor Hart, knowing that he was injured on the away mission with the Captain, to sickbay. She was on a different away mission and got back to Sickbay right at the same time that she received the call from the transporter technician.
Just as Jason arrived on the floor, he closed his eyes to the bright light, holding onto his right foot as he rocked a little.
Leanne approached him, bending down on her knees to take a look at his foot that he was holding. She didn't see anything and opened her tricorder to do the scans. "What happened?"
He opened one eye to look at her, feeling a little embarrassed. "I fell in a dark hole...can you dim the lights?"
"Computer, dim the main sickbay lights to 50 percent."
After the computer acknowledged, her scanner beeped. "You definately have some fractures of your right foot...medial tarsal and some bones around the ankle. Can you stand on your good foot and get to a biobed? Or, do I need to get a medical technician to pick you up?"
Jason did not like being the patient. He was beginning to feel arrogant because of severe pain. "I think I can...," he grasped Leanne's arms that were offered to him and he stood up carefully. Jason didn't move when he realized that he was in a difficult position of not applying pressure to his injured foot.
"Tech!" She called outloud for some help.
"You didn't have to do that," Jason said as he hopped on one foot, but didn't get very far.
A medical technician came and guided him to a biobed.
"You can leave," he rudely said to the tech. He grabbed the osteo-regenerator as he looked at Leanne, "just give me pain meds and send me to my quarters after I heal this."
"You know I can't do that...", she closed the tricorder.
"Just spare me the lecture, I will do this myself," he was starting to get aggrevated with the pain that was preventing him to think straight.
Doctor Valdez happened to hear what was going on, but didn't know much about Hart's past. He figured that his attitude was due to being injured, as he has never seen his behavior until now. He understands when someone gets injured and the pain is overwhelming. Doctors are terrible patients, he thought. He carefully picked up a hypospray and load it with a maximum dose of a sedative. He took a blue towel and covered the instrument as he walked to behind his biobed. He silently looked at Doctor Bowen and put a finger to his lips to signal for her to not give away of his position.
"I should be doing the patient care...hand me the instrument, Jason," Leanne said as she put out her hand, keeping her eyes on him instead of looking at the Surgeon behind Hart.
Before Jason knew what happened, he felt something hissed on the right side of his neck, then his eyelids became very heavy. Darkness overwhelmed him, stealing his energy of consciousness.
Wesley caught his upper body and slowly laid him down, while Leanne took the osteo-regenerator from his hand. "At least he will not be treating himself and I hope that my actions on this one will not be put on my record...", the surgeon said.
"Your quick action was acceptable...not for displinary action," Doctor Bowen said.
"Oh, good," he said as he picked up Jason's wrist to check his pulse. "Most doctors have bad bedside manners and it looked to me like he has one. I don't think he will be happy when he wakes later to find out what I did to him," he said as he laid the doctor's wrist down.
"I'll make sure that he doesn't give you a hard time...he use to be sarcastic before he became the ACMO and I thought his behavior has improved."
Wesley nodded as he took the tricorder from her and opened it to read the diagnosis on Hart. "No surgery required on this one."
"Yeah, he will be stuck in sickbay for awhile. When he awakes up, I will spare him the lecture on a lot of things, whether he likes it or not," she gave him a smile.
He returned the smile as he handed her the tricorder back. "If you need any help, let me know."
"Thanks, Valdez." She removed the boot from Doctor Hart's foot and turned the instrument on, moving it over the injured ankle to let it do the healing. Then, something fell on the floor. She stopped the instrument and bent down to see what it was. She picked up the object, thinking that it was a rock, and discovered that it was a gold nugget. She placed it in her pocket for protection, planning to return it to him as well as letting the Captain know.
