Mission: The Race for the Lost Treasure

ON

[OLD]

"So it would seem. But we have a two-day head start. We'll get there, look around and be gone before whomever it is finds the planet."

[NEW]

"All away teams will include security, and marine officers." Levue said. "And I'll be keeping the ship's tactical console, and security department at Yellow alert level readiness, up to, and including, keeping shields raised."

"Agreed. I'd like a scientist and a medical officer in each team as well. Two or three teams, depending on what we find when we get there. I will lead one of the teams. That will leave Commander Tovan in charge of the Calypso. I don't expect us to be gone for more than a few hours, a day at most."

Noelle spoke up "Let me know who you want from the Marines on each team and we'll be ready to go." She said shifting her weight from one foot to the other.

"I'll stay on aboard and help Commander on the bridge," Serena pipped up in the conversations, "And I'll get some pilots ready if you wish to take some shuttles Captain?"

"An excellent suggestion, tactically speaking. We can use it for low-aerial recon, if necessary. At least, preferably two teams, should go down on shuttles. The third can take a transporter to the most likely area of interest." Levue suggested. "Optionally, all three teams can take shuttles, but having them mapping for those of us on the planet, will be extremely helpful."

"Can we dress up as pirates?" Marek asked playfully.

"Only in engineering," Sam reposted with a grin. "Or on the holodeck. I hear there's a lovely pirate program."

"Once we get to Tangor and ensure it's safe, we'll have three teams go down. One in a shuttle to do an aerial recon and survey, two on the ground. I'll head one ground team. Dezzy, I'd like you to head the second. Ronnie and Damion, I'd like you there as well. Daniels can head the shuttle team. Any questions?"

Commander Sears had walked into the briefing room just as the last orders from the Captain came. "Not that my opinion matters..." He said as he smiled at those sitting around the table. "But that doesn't sound like a very good plan to me." He walked closer to the edge of the table.

"The Commanding Officer and Second Officer of this vessel will be going down to the planet - I could quote the regulations but I think all of you already know. But that is not what concerns me." He paused for a moment. He ran his finger across the end of the table as he walked by it then around the chairs heading towards where the Captain was sitting.

"My real concern is that if I was a bad guy I would only have to target the away teams and take out two thirds of the Command team. Plus, the Captain should stay with the vessel - that is where their place is. That is why they have all of you to handle missions such as this."

Michael shrugged his shoulders then looked around the room. "If I had a say in this matter..." He said as he walked back down towards an open chair. "I would send the Commander here down with an away team to make sure there weren't any unwanted surprises waiting for them and then if the Captain so choose she can head down - but only once the site has been secured." Michael took a seat in the empty chair and leaned back. He knew his words had not made him many friends in the room.

"No, Commander, you don't have a say. If it were just you and I, I wouldn't give you an answer," Sam replied coolly. "But for the benefit of my crew, since you chose to bring up your objections in public, I'll tell you that I am an expert on alien civilizations. I am the one best suited to lead this away team. Lieutenant Wolfe is more than capable of ensuring the safety of the aways teams. As are Lieutenants Ghassan and Levue."

"Although there is some evidence to show that we might be followed, we're several days ahead of them, so there's no immediate risk. And by going down to the planet myself I have a greater chance of finding what we're looking for and getting back before whoever is after us has a chance to catch up. So, it's a relatively safe operation and my leading the team is more than justified. And finally, it gives Commander Tovan a chance to get some command experience. Starfleet agrees."

Michael simply smiled from the other side of the table at the Captain. "If you say so Captain."

Noelle spoke up from her position against the wall "There will be Marines with both ground parties as well for additional protection, if it comes down to a fight." She said

"As will appropriately trained Security Personnel." Levue said, nodding. She looked straight at Captain York. If you want someone in the brig, just say so. She thought, knowing that her lack of mental shielding would just about knock Sam over with the thought.

Sam gave the Security Chief a half-smile at her thought. It was tempting, but the Commander hadn't crossed a line. Yet. "I believe that answers your question, Commander." She turned to the rest of her officers. "Okay. If there are no further questions, I'd like you all to get ready for our arrival."
