Mission: Shades of Gray
Location: Calypso, Various

Sam watched the viewscreen as they followed the "trail" to Michnar IX. "Lieutenant Lancaster, what do you see?" she asked.

"It looks like the rings are...artificial. It's more a debris field. But it's not planetary debris. It's humanoid debris."

Lieutenant Junior Grade Cassandra Levue relieved ensign Daniels at the console. She was aware, quite aware, that beyond Captain York, and Commander Raine were the only people who knew who she was. She didn't bother broadcasting, or introducing herself. She just took her position, and continued Ensign Daniels' scans.

"Odd tactical debris pattern scan, eh?" Daniels asked.

"Is that..." Levue asked.

"A Soviet Nuclear warhead? Yup." Daniels said.

"What the hell is it doing here?" Levue asked.

"No clue. I've cross-referenced with what little records Pre-WWIII we've got. I've got confirmed Serial numbers run, according to the magnified scans. The important part has been obliterated by interstellar dust. Wouldn't have mattered much anyways. We've only got serial numbers of launched warheads, for which there were few." Daniels said. "Historical References do note a test warhead launched into space, just to prove they could do it, to the 'capitalist dogs'."

"Captain York, permission to adjust it's trajectory, via tractor beam, to launch it into the sun? It's unsafe to bring aboard, and if we leave it here, the solar system's gravitational shifts could cause serious damage to the planets, should it impact on any of them." Levue said, with a frown. It looked bloody interesting, and she really wanted to study it, but it just wasn't permitted by regulations.

"Granted."

The debris field was ... impressive. There seemed to be a bit of everything. "Focus on the inner ring. Is that what I think it is?"

"It's a ... ring of socks, ma'am."

"Socks? There's a ring of socks orbiting a planet?" she asked, surprised. How did all those socks end up orbiting a planet?

"Hey! I know that one!" Daniels said, pointing at the display. "I lost it when I was five. You can tell, because it's got the Green Lantern on it!"

"You can identify a sock you lost, when you were five?" Cassandra asked, with a strange look on her face.

"Mom kept saying I did it, and Danielle didn't make it any easier." Daniels said with a glare at the viewscreen. "I want to bag it, so I can mail it home."

Cassandra refrained from commenting.

Sam shook her head. She was not going to comment on that. "What else is out there?"

"Computer, what is that?" Said a voice from the back.

"Hull registry indicates a squadron of US Navy Avengers lost in the Bermuda Triangle on Earth, December 5, 1945. They were referred to as 19."

"I've also confirmed ID on 2 trillion, 94 socks, two pizza deliveries, that I assure you did not arrive within 30 minutes, one soviet Nuclear Warhead, currently having it's trajectory adjusted, a WWII Fighter plane, Two Soviet Mig 28s, an F-16, and one cellular sattelite." Cassandra said, with a frown.

"That! There!" Daniels said, pointing at something showing up as a collection of Organic mass.

"What is it?" Cassandra asked.

"Four very frost-bitten trees, and a Wooly Mammoth lost in the ice age." Daniels said, chuckling at the image on the viewer.

Sam gave Daniels a mischievous grin. "Transport those to a cargo bay. Set the environmental controls to emulate its current environment. I know a number of scientists who'd love to examine that." She turned to Torel. "Scan the debris field. I want to know what else is in that field."

"It's going to be a while." Cassandra said. "The computer is cataloging all the socks. The other stuff hasn't even gotten out of the Earth databases yet."

"This is a engineer's dream" Jourdan said. "Okay, lets take some samples of SMALL technology" Jourdan added.

Sam turned to Damon and said, sotto voce, "Good thing we're not in a hurry."

Noelle had been in her office when she caught sight of the debris field and headed to the Bridge for a better view. Walking quietly to a back corner she stood watching the goings on.

Serena sat at her station and watched the debris float on by the ship. She was so excited to see all the older ships floating by. She'd hope that pershaps one was sutable for people to come aboard. "Sir," she stated, "With your permission can I scan the area for any ships or small craft we could sent some one to?" She turned and faced the Captain, "I would love it if I could. Perhaps there is one out there?"

"Permission to accompany Lieutenant Jones." Daniels said.

"If the Captain deems it necessary, or pertinent." Cassandra said with a nod.

"Permission to scan. Beyond that...we'll see," Sam said quietly.

Damon was intrigued by it all, especially the mention of the WWII plane. He leaned over to the Captain. "I don't suppose we have room in a cargo bay for that war fighter, do we?"

"Well, if we've got room for the engine of a train in engineering, I don't see why we can't find room for a plane in a cargo bay," she replied. For an historian, this was a priceless opportunity. Sam herself was curious to see what else was out there.

Tovan remained silent watching all that was taking place aboard the bridge of the vessel. He found it intriguing but had nothing really to add to the conversation as he continued to work.

[Lounge]

Rumors were starting to spread. Doctor Hart was eating in the lounge as he happened to hear some crewmembers talking about finding old stuff in space was sent to the cargo bay. WWII plane, mechanical tools, GPS system, some sports stuff..., he heard them say.

He stood up quickly and disposed his tray, leaving the lounge to head to the cargo bay. I hope they have baseballs...

[Cargo Bay]

Ensigns Tyler, Tyler, and Stran, were all present, all armed. "I remind you all, ladies and gentlemen, these items are not for auction. They were obtained for scientific study, and analysis. Anyone attempting to remove any item, without filling out the required paperwork, and having it approved by the Captain, will be in violation of several Starfleet Regulations, and will be stunned, and then remanded into Security's custody." There were several really grumpy faces at this.

[Bridge]

Sam watched the data from the sensors scroll across her console. Something flashed by and she paused. Was that... She scrolled back. It was. "Lock on to the stone box. The one with the Mayan pictographs. Beam it to cargo bay 2." She wasn't sure if there was anything inside, but it was definitely worth investigating.

"Jones, take a shuttle and get a closer look at the wormhole. Take Daniels, Lancaster and Wolfe with you. Dezzy, keep scanning and see if you can find any other anomalies in the debris."

"Ma'am, yes ma'am!" Daniels said, with a nod, as he left the bridge.

Cassandra tapped her comm-badge. "Levue to Daniels. Don't forget your go bag." Cassandra said, with a chuckle.

"Ah, yes ma'am." Daniels said with a shaky voice.

Levue chuckled, as the link closed.
