[OLD]
Samantha had been notified of the commotion in the cargo bay. She walked into the room and stopped, her reaction somewhere between shock and awe. A train? She walked slowly into the room and found Jourdan. "Lieutenant, I should have said inconsequential instead of harmless."
[NEW]
Dezzy had been in her office when she had received the summons. With the way she knew the ship the cargo bay might as well have been on a different ship. Her eyebrow raised at the emotions emanating from behind the closed door. The best way to sum it up was a good helping of shock and awe with a little amusement sprinkled in. It wasn't until the doors opened that she learned why. Sitting in front of her was a train, much like the ones in the transportation museums back on Earth. "I see I am not to late for the big surprise?"
"Choo Choo!" Jourdan said leaning out of the cab. "Jump aboard lieutenant, and remember to have your ticket ready, a.k.a your tricorder" and with that she ducked back into the cab.
Sam raised an eyebrow and wondered what she'd just gotten herself into with her new Chief Engineer.
With a sigh and a humorous laugh, he made his way back to Ronnie stood next to her and leaned closer to her, whispering "Does he always act like such a Vulcan?" Knowing full well he was part Romulan, by his eyes and ears. He had learned over the years to pick up the signs with certain Hybrids. Being a Hybrid himself, it was a necessary evil. Damion leaned back again as he looked at the train with her and raised a brow. "Do you think the computer might have some kind of file as to where this originally came from?"
Ronnie tried not to giggle at the comment. "No, he usually acst like an Orion. This is one of his better days." She was being facetious. "Actually, he's usually pretty good to work with."
Tovan had pulled out his tricoder and began scanning the locomotive as more people seemed to gather in the cargo bay. He walked around it to the other side where no one else was. It was a bit more peace and quiet but he could still overhear some of the conversations happening on the other side. This was indeed an interesting piece of engineering. There were many questions that he wanted answers too concerning this.
"Lieutenant Abbott." Sam raised her voice so the Engineer would hear her. "Why did you beam up a train?"
Desiana listed for the Lieutenant response as she climbed up the side of the locomotive, taking reading as she went. It wasn't long before she was standing next to the pile of what used to be a carbon based fuel. It was not something she was familiar with out site of a historical knowledge. It fascinated as much as the appearance of the train did.
"I think I should analyze that coal. It's obviously having adverse affects on the crew," Ronnie whispered to Damion. "I'm afraid if I get closer, I'll build a tree house in the arboretum."
Marek waited for his new chief's response. ~This will be good,~ he thought regarding the why.
Sam stayed back, watching her crew's reactions and waiting -- a bit -- to see if her new Chief Engineer would answer the questions put to her.
"Well according to the computer this is old Earth Technology" Jourdan replied. "Now, can any of you explain why a steam locomotive from the late 1960's ended up on this planet? This locomotive has the answers to why the planet has a mix match of technology"
"Not until I run some tests," Ronnie said.
"It does fit the general pattern of the planet," Sam said. "They have quite a collection of technology. Do you have a theory as to where it came from?"
"Well I'm no science officer, but this locomotive seems to have a temporal trail, maybe we can trace this with our sensors and find out where it came from exactly" Jourdan said.
"Excellent idea," Sam said. "Let me know what you find. And find some place for that train. Maybe an Engineering Bay?" With a nod ot hte others, Sam turned and walked out of the cargo bay.
She had to admit, of all the things she thought the engineer would transport to the ship for study, a train was NOT one of them.
