Mission:
The Race for the Lost Treasure
Location: Leo's quarters
Timeline: Back Post
ON:
Leo was sitting in his room, playing chess against the ships computer and reading over a report saying that a new person had come on board. Reading lower, he saw that there were actually two, Shrugging, he put in a page to both of them, to their quarters. He liked to know who his men were going to be protecting on boarding details.
Desiana was just the type that would check in on pretty much anyone she didn't know. She had found out that the Marine Commanding Officer has been wounded in a pervious encounter. It also helped that she had heard though the grapevine that he liked to meet the Department Heads. She could undertand that. She would want to know who her team was sticking their neck out for if she had been in his position. She tapped the chime out side his quarters and waited for permission to enter.
"Its open!" Leo called out, just having taken off his undershirt. He was digging for a new one, but his bare back was in sight of the now open door. The burns and marks from the wall wern't as bad as the front, but that was to be expected. Right next to his hand was a kukri blade, ready to defend himself if need be. "Please announce who it is!"
Desiana was only slightly caught off guard by the back the faced her as she entered the MCO's quarters. She had heard that he had been burn but she didn't know to what extent. "Desiana Torel, the new chief science officer." She replied simply, "I promise I mean not harm." She added in responde to the weapon not far from the Captain.
"Thats not the problem," Leo said pulling on an OD green undershirt and turning around. "Usually its some new nurse or medic trying to get some readings." As he faced the woman, she was able to see more of the burns and marks left by the explosion. "So what can I do for you?"
Desiana smiled at the Marine. "Oh nothing...I simply wanted to introduce myself....I am Lieutenant Torel, the new Chief Science Officer." She looked over the man, unable to not notice his burns.
Leo nodded, feeling uncomfortable with the woman looking him over. "Would you like me to put on a better covering shirt? I know the burns can be... disturbing."
Dezzy smiled, "No Sir. I am not bothered by them...but if it would make you feel more comfortable be my guess...or I could come back at a better time." She motioned towards the door as she finished her statement. She had merely wanted to meet the Marine she hadn't meant to impose.
"I don't care either way," Leo said with a shrug, moving into the main part of his quarters. "And you don't have to go Lieutenant, no ones going to hurt you here." Leo smiled, thinking of what his old CO at the Academy had said. Devil dogs don't bite... hard.
"Biting can be fun." Desiana said naturally with a laugh at the Marine thought. "But that is good to know...for future reference that is." She moved behind the near by chair. "If you don't mind me asking...the scuttlebutt around the ship is a bit contradictory..what happened?"
"I've never known an officer to listen to scuttle-butt," Leo said with a chuckle. "What versions have you heard so far?"
"I am not your typical officer." Dezzy replied with a little glint in her eye. It was a true statement. "Lets see, we have the bravery test gone wrong, we have a jealous ex-lover, and some involving an away mission. The last one isn't very well developed at my last inquiry."
"I haven't had a lover since before I entered the Corps, I'm not a klingon so that takes the test of valor off the table, the away mission is the closest thing to the truth." Leo saw the twinkle, but dismissed it. He wasn't interested in a one night stand, or even a relationship in his current condition. Sickbay would demolish him. "I was planet side, didn't notice the land mine that was set up, tripped the trip wire, and went kaboom. Standard guerilla tactics, used to attack the government grunts that would be sweeping the area, while not being tripped by insurgent forces, who would all be briefed that it was there."
Desiana tapped the back of the chair as she listened to the re-account of the accident. "Well land mind wasn't one of the rumors." She began with levity. "I take it since you are back in your quarters that you are doing better?"
"No, you should take it as I'm back in my Quarters, I refuse to be laid up in Sickbay any longer than I absolutely need to," Leo said with a laugh. "I'm too stubborn not to be in my quarters, even if I were on my death bed." Looking around his room, it was immaculate, but something felt messy, off about the way things were. "You know, you can sit, it's not going to sprout chains or anything and lash you down against your will." Biting his tongue, Leo wondered why the next thought even came to him. What is wrong with you Leo, he asked himself mentally.
"I have that effect on people." Desiana stated simply as she moved around the chair and took a seat. "I didn't mean to imply anything...I simply didn't want to make any assumptions."
Damn telepaths, he thought with an outward chuckle. "Sorry, I don't know whats gotten into me Lieutenant." Shaking his head, he looked around his quarters. "So what do you think of our current situation?"
"To be honest, I don't really know much about our situation." Desiana started. "I have only been on the ship for a short time...I am still trying to get moved in." She bit her lower lip while she thought for a moment. "Care to fill me in?"
"What do you need to know? Theres only so much I know of course."
"I would rather know more about you." Desiana said with an easy smile. "I enjoy learning about the people I serve with."
"What do you need to know? I'm a simple man, a Marine and one of the unfortunate few that the Captain turns to when the feces hits the fan."
"That is more telling then you might know." Desiana said with a grin. "You can never have enough Marines."
"You sound like an Officer that thinks that we're just grunts. That we don't know anything but fighting and dying." Leroy wasn't happy with this turn of events, it was often that he found a fleetie that was more willing to have the mean green machine do all the dying so they could sit back. Kyt was the only exception. "If that's the case then I doubt that you'll like my men very much."
Desiana smiled at the misunderstanding. "I am sorry if I offended you, but you misunderstand. While many officers might believe that Marine's are simply around to do the heavy lifting; I do not share their opinion." She paused for a second. "I simply meant that we are lucky to have Marines on board this starship. Marines maintain a level of training that many Starfleet personnel could benefit from but lack. I owe my life many times over to the Marines I have served with. I meant no disrespect."
"That's the first time that's ever happened," Leo said with a laugh. "But if you do need heavy lifting done I suggest asking us before goin anywhere else." Leo began to stretch a little. "I'm sorry to do this, and I do enjoy your company, but I am tired and need some more sleep. If you need anything at all my office and quarters are always open to you."
Desiana rose from her chair. "I won't keep you from your rest. It was nice meeting you Captain." She moved around the chair. "See you around, marine." She finished with a smile before she exited his quarters.
Watching her go, Leo shook his head. He'd been involved with two women on the ship, and both had died. He wasn't about to let that happen to him again. Standing, Leo started cleaning a little before he'd rack out. "Computer, lights," he said toppling forward in perfect darkness.
