Mission: Shades of Gray
Location: USS Calypso
Timeline: Current

The meeting with Commander Raine had been pretty normal as far as Dezzy's experience was concerned. She was just glad to have that formality out of the way so she could get started in her new position. She was looking forward to meeting her department and setting to work. The Calypso had a more sophisticated computer then the last two ships she had been on and she couldn't wait to get her hands on it.

With a quick stop by her quarters, Desiana was now dressed in her teal uniform and on her way to her office. She had to admit she was enjoying the new pip on her collar. She had received the promotion in preparation for this posting and she still wasn't used to be a full Lieutenant. The thought brought a smile to her face that remained until she stepped into her office.

The sight in her office brought her to a halt immediately. Instead of a desk the room contained a pile of boxes. On first glance it appeared that the boxes all contained various scientific equipment. The worst part was that most of it appeared to be broken. Dezzy had been told that this position had been vacant for quite some time and this was the first time that the fact sunk in.

With a sigh Desiana set to work. Clearing out the boxes starting with the first one she arrived at. Hefting the box off the floor she slowly made the trip to the recycler. She could never understand why even scientist wanted to hold on to everything. With replicator technology there wasn't much that couldn't be duplicated.

Time seemed to stand still as box after box was returned to the recycler. Each item had to be inspected on the off chance it was something required special handling. The previous science chief might not have cared about protocol but it was something Dezzy was a stickler about.

The thirteenth box was what the killer. Literally. Desiana placed half of the contents into the recycler bin, hit the command and nothing happened. Checking and double checking her inputs she realized the problem wasn't user error. "Too bad you aren't an electron microscope" she almost yelled at the wall unit. That should could have fixed on her own.

She needed to get out of that office. That was the only reason Dezzy had huffed out of her office and was now on a turbolift. She could have simply tapped her comm badge and asked for assitance, but it was easier to get what she needed in person. Lieutenant Faye? She thought as she pondered who she was looking for. It wasn't long before she was standing outside of the Operations Chiefs office. She rang the chime.

The chime...there it was again. It seemed that as soon as he settled in to get some work done the chime would disrupt that. He had thought about turning it off but that would have been too easy. And if he had done that then they would just use the comm badge. He leaned back in his seat looking at the door. He chuckled to himself as he picked up a PADD. "Enter."

The voice hadn't registered until the doors parted and sitting behind the desk was her travel companion, Commander Tevon. She had never asked him what position he held and he had never volunteered the information. She couldn't control the smile that crossed her lips as she entered the office. She gave him a professional nod as she came to a stop behind a chair. "Commander. I thought Lieutenant Faye was the Chief of Operations."

Tovan was reading the information on the PADD and hadn't looked up until she spoke. He placed the PADD on the desk in front of him leaning back in his seat. The two of them really had to stop meeting like this. "She was Chief of Operations until I returned." He motioned towards the chair for her to have a seat. "I take it this isn't a social call, Lieutenant."

"That would be a correct assumption." Dezzy easily sat in the chair as she spoke. "I am having a bit of a recycler issue in my office. If it were an electron microscope or a Resistance transistor I would now how to fix that, but operations and engineering were not my better subject in the academy." She paused for a moment allowing a small smile to touch her lips. "I am much better at breaking things then fixing them."

"That would seem to be the case with a lot of individuals on this vessel, Lieutenant." Tovan stated as his eyes shifted to the direction of PADDs sitting on his desk. There was a decent size stack of maintenance reports sitting there. He looked back to her and sighed. Normally he wouldn't do this but he decided that a break was necessary. "I suppose I can come and see what the problem is..." He said with a grin on his face as he rose up from his seat.

"You have no idea how much I appreciate this." Dezzy said with a knowing smile as she too rose from her chair. She didn't think it necessary to warn him of the disaster area what she considered her office, that could be a surprise. "I will have to make it up to you." Despite her opportunity to add an innuendo to this statement she didn't. She turned to head for the door with the Commander not far behind her.

There were a few things that he could have responded with but he decided that it probably wouldn't be the best time to do it. There would be other times, other situations. He followed closely behind her as they left his office and then walked besides her as they headed for the turbo lift. "Please, do try not to make a habit of breaking things." He said as he looked at her.

"Well know that I know you are the one that has to fix them..." She started with a wink. "I am not sure I could keep a promise like that." Her tone was joking as she stepped onto the lift. A short ride later they were standing outside her office. She turned to him in all seriousness, "Before you walk in there you need to know that this is how I found it...well I managed to clean up some of it." With that she opened the door and stepped inside.

Tovan had raised an eye brow as the warning came then looked into her office as the door opened and she stepped inside. He took a moment to take it all in. It was a mess but that was to be expected it had been empty for some time. He sighed and looked at her. "Have you considered hiring a maid?" He asked as he stepped inside the office.

"I aspire to be a housewife." She stated simply as she moved through the mess towards the recycler unit. "I am the maid" She added with a flirty smile. She turned her attention back to the unit. "I was loading in my millionth load of crap into this thing and now it won't work. I thought maybe it was overloaded and gave it a break but still nothing." She hit the button to engage the process and in perfect illustration of her point nothing happened.

Tovan ever so slightly tilted his head to the side. If she was the maid she was in the wrong type of outfit. He simply smiled to himself and moved through the mess that was her office. He followed her over to the recycler and watched as she tried to engage it but nothing happened. "You definitely did break it." He said before even looking at it with a grin on his face.

"tsk tsk Commander." Dezzy started as she turned her grin to Delon. "I hardly think that is proper attire for the Chief Science Officer." She turned her attention back to the machine. "I am aware that it is broken. I am still not convinced that it was my doing."

"I'm sure you've been told before that you shouldn't be going into people's heads without their permission...who knows what you will find." Tovan stated as he looked at her. He wasn't bothered by the fact that she went ahead and did that. He half expected it to happen after all he was broadcasting it. "Well, it could be a number of things..." He said as he pulled up his sleeves and began inspecting the machine.

" Well perhaps you should think some things more quietly." Desiana volleyed with a smile. She couldn't help but appreciate the newly exposed skin of his arms as he pushed up his sleeves. "Would you care to fill me in or should I find them for myself?"

"Well, I usually don't have to worry about having my thoughts being read..." Tovan responded without looking back at her as he continued to inspect the recycler. "But I guess now that you are around...I will have to be more careful."

"So you make a habit of picturing female officer in other attire?" Desiana jested. She moved so that she was leaning against the wall just on he edge of Delon's view. "And here I was feeling special."

"You actually should." Tovan stated as he looked up at her with a smile on his face. "You are the only one that I have come to fix a broken piece of equipment for." He added as he pulled out a part. "It burned out so I'm going to have one of my people bring a new one and install it within the next half an hour."

Dezzy didn't say anything. She bit her lower lip as she nodded her understanding. She was happy to just stand there for a moment. "I guess I can finish sorting through this junk. Who knows what the hell is in all these boxes."

Tovan looked around the office at the boxes then looked to her. "I suppose you can do that..." He placed the broken part on the floor near the recycler then looked back to her. "If you don't mind me asking what are you doing later this evening?"

"I guess that depends." Dezzy started as she moved towards one of the near by boxes. "What do you have in mind?" She leaned over the box and began systematically sorting the items.

Tovan stepped away from the recycler and moved closer to the center of the room. "Well, maybe we can meet up for a drink later after both of our shifts are done." He said as he looked at her.

"Are you sure that is a good idea?" Desiana's voice was throaty. "It might give me another chance to find out your secret." Her tone turned to playful as she turned to face him as he moved about.

Tovan smirked to himself and nodded. "I suppose you are right, Lieutenant." He turned to face the door and took a couple of steps towards it before stopping. "I guess we both better forget that I even brought it up."

"Get over yourself Commander." She responded with a laugh. "Pick me up at 2000."

"Aye aye ma'am." Tovan responded with a grin on his face as he left her office."
