Shades of Gray
Location: Planet

[Base Camp]
Doctor Valdez removed his helmet and wiped the sweat off his forehead and face. He has had enough with the suit as it was unbearable to work in it. He fought off the dizzyness earlier and drank more orange juice to keep up.
Doctor Bowen came in with her suit on, checking on the patients, and found the surgeon sitting off to one side, away from the others. Taking a break? Leanne wondered as she approached him. "Lieutenant, you are not suppost to remove...," she stopped in mid-sentence when she found him to be a little pale and sweating profusely. "You don't look good." She opened her tricorder.
"Forget it...I've already caught the virus and the suit is useless," he said as he got up.
"Sit down," she ordered him.
He protested, "I can still work and need to be out of this suit to work better."
The tricorder beeped and she gave him a dirty look. "Your vitals are off the chart, but not in the danger zone. Sit down, Lieutenant."
Wesley undid his suit by the velcro and removed all of it before he sat down. He looked over at the nurse that approached him. "She is without a suit...the rules changed? Are you showing symptoms?"
"No, doctor," Helga replied. "I feel fine, actually." She knew Doctor Valdez had objections to the way she dressed, so she smiled sweetly at him and handed him a glass of juice.
Leanne placed the tricorder into her suit pocket. She looked at the nurse and back to the surgeon. "I have lifted the suits for the ones that are already been exposed. Anybody that comes down to the planet has to remain in their suits. Anyways, what is with Chief Thompson that I heard from Nurse Jaynes?"
Wesley remained sitting on the cot with his head tilted back a little to look up at the doctor. "I've just discovered that the virus doesn't appear in her blood stream and we need to look into that to see if we can find a cure. If you noticed, she is half Trill and that might mean something." He wiped his face with a cloth.
"I think we should test all our crewmember's blood, but I need you to take frequent breaks," Doctor Bowen said as she watched him drink some orange juice.
He scowled at both of them.
Callen just got done helping someone when she was intruped by a nurse. "The doctor would like to see you," stated the nurse. Callen found it quite odd but she nodded her head and fallowed the nurse. When she reached Doctor Bowen, Callen stood there waiting for further instructions. She really hated being in this suite, it was way to hot for her to be in it. She was going to ask if maybe they could do something about it. Maybe lower her body temp or something.
"Chief Thompson," Doctor Bowen said. "The virus hasn't appeared in your blood stream and we think it is because your immunity is high. It must be part of being a Trill. You are free to remove your suit. We will have to draw more blood later to see if you are still immune."
"This doesn't guarantee that you are totally immune," Doctor Valdez added.
Callen sighted, "O thank you. I was starting to get to hot in this." She started to take off the suite, "So do you need to take any blood or run any test? Am I the only one who maybe perhaps safe from this?" She wondered perhaps her father's blood just saved her from a fatal death.
"I do suggest getting the blood from all the crewmembers as well as the people of this planet...at least every 2 to 3 hours would be best. As for the severe cases, less blood every thirty minutes. Just be cautious while you are immune. We are not sure about those that are not human to be immune yet." Leanne nodded, "So far, you are the only one."
The surgeon set his empty glass on a container next to the cot and looked up. "Doctor, what about your blood?"
"I haven't been tested yet." Leanne hasn't had any symptoms yet, but she assumes that she hasn't been exposed that long before putting on the suit. "I'm sure that I'm probably in the early stage of exposure without symptoms. I'll have nurse Helga Lowe do my blood..."
Hel turned from recycling the doctor's glass and nodded. "I will draw your blood right away, Doctor Bowen. I agree that you need to be tested along with everyone else." She turned to Doctor Valdez. "I am not showing symptoms yet, either. Good Scandinavian genes."
Doctor Valdez slowly stood up from the cot and removed the remaining suit from his lower torso. He chuckled, "Scandinavian genes?"
Doctor Bowen frowned as she put her arm out for nurse Helga to draw her blood. "Whether we have good genes or not, it won't really make much a difference. Having a strong immune system will be better," she said to them. "I want to look into Chief's blood to see how much of immunity she has."
Hel nodded as she quickly extracted a small amount of blood. "Good genes often lead to good immunities. As does a good diet." She put the vial of blood into a machine and pushed the button for it to begin the analysis. "We will know soon if you have the virus, doctor."
"Good," she said to Helga. "Be sure to get Chief Thompson's blood in an hour or two. I better go check on the people that just entered." Leanne left quickly to attend to a young woman who just fell to the floor.
Wesley followed Doctor Bowen to help the woman.
