"Damon," Sam said as soon as Damon entered the room, "I'm going down to the planet with Commander Wexler to talk to the planetary governor."

He allowed a long pause to pass as he took in what she said.

"Oh." He finally broke. "So then I guess you are 100 percent sure that this isn't some ploy for them to get you down on the planet where they can take you next? He asked sardonically.

Sam sighed. "No, love. I'm not. All I am sure of is that they won't talk to anyone else." She watched him for a moment, knowing he was not happy with her right now. "What do you want me to do -- besides staying on the ship -- to make this safer?"

"Can't you do just that? Stay on the ship and have the governor meet here?"

"I can ask Wexler to try. But if the governor wont' go along with it, I'll have to beam down," she said. "Okay?"

"Fine. Whatever." He said angrily; throwing his hands up and turning to leave without being dissmissed. He knew she wasn't asking for permission, but he certainly didn't have to like it.

Marek and Tavish walked off the turbolift and approached the ready room. Marek turned to his superior, "Shouldn't one of us stay on the ship?" He asked.

"Are you saying you want all the fun on the planet?" Tavish eyed his assistant teasingly.

~Why deny it?~ Marek thought. "Yes." He admitted with a sheepish grin.

Tavish laughed. "Well I could pull rank on you and order you to remain on the ship but since the ship is in no immediate danger I don't see why we both can't go down." He reasoned.

Marek nodded. "I agree." He tapped the ready room's door chime then blushed as he turned to Tavish. "Sorry sir, was excited to go."

"No worries Marek, in any case the Captain doesn't know who pushed the chime anyway." Tavish said.

"Indeed." Marek said and they waited.

Damon walked out of the ready room almost at the same time the chime rang. The doors parted to reveal the two officers whome he showed little interest in as he bowled past them with a frown on his face.

Sam stood watching Damon leave. She wanted to call him back and talk to him, but knew there was nothing she could say to convince him she had ot go. Especially after the last time when she was the one kidnapped.

She saw the two Engineers standing outside. "Come in, gentlemen."

"Thank you," Marek said as the two entered the ready room.

"What can I do for you?"

"We're done a survey of the planet and found, for want of a better word, how do you humans say it, a hodgepodge of technologies. Romulan, Klingon, Orion, Ferengi, Cardassian, Tholian, even Borg all combined to run the planet." Marek reported, "With your permission the Chief and I would like to go down to further investigate?"

Sam considered his suggestion, then shook her head. "I need one of you to stay on board and continue sorting through the data here. We need to figure out what's going on down there before we find ourselves doing more harm than good."

She looked back and forth between the two. "I'll let you sort out who goes and who stays. Just don't go off alone, okay? We've got one crew member missing. I don't want to lose another."

Tavish turned to Marek. "I'm thinking-"

"Dangerous," Marek commented. They laughed and then the chief engineer continued.

"Of a number between one and twenty." Tavish said.

"Never mind," Sam said, stopping the two men before they could finish the game. "Tav, you stay. I may need your expertise here before this is all said and done. Marek, get packed and get to the transporter room. Dismissed."

After the two men left, Sam stayed in her ready room to finish up some paperwork before going down to the planet. She needed a few minutes to collect herself and she knew Damon needed the time, too. She cleared off her desk and walked back onto the bridge.

She stopped just outside the door and watched Damon for a moment. She wanted to say something to Damon but hesitated. Later. When she got back. She knew he was right, but she also knew she had to go. "Damon, you have the bridge," she said quietly before heading to the turbolift.
