Mission: The Devils Snare
Location: Bora Bora

ON

The Holodeck program was ready, Sheridan was standing on one of the most beautiful beaches in the known universe.... White and wide warm sand with a very calm breeze.. Several small boats were there for use if needed. John dropped his chair in the sand and watched as The Orions Chef directed the installation of a Tiki Bar and several buffet tables for the guests, a large dinner on the beach was planned as the sun set. He kicked back in the chair and waited for the others to arrive...

Samantha walked onto the holodeck dressed in a blue bikini in a Hawaiian floral pattern, a matching skirt tied around her waist. In her hair she wore a large hibiscus flower. She walked over to the Lieutenant. "Aloha."

"Aloha! Sam, You look great..have a seat get yourself a drink and kick back."

Sam nodded and went to the Tiki bar to got herself a tall glass of fruit juice and walked back over to John. "So, how's everything going from the command side of things?"

"Really well, this crew seems very dedicated to the ship, and aside from some recent Marine boredom things are running smoothly." He took a long drink from his highball glass and waved it towards the Tiki bar silently calling for another.

"How about you, are you getting settled in?"

"Yep. The science lab is set up, the secondary database is in place, the arboretum is done and we're good to go. The department has worked really hard to get everything ready on time," Sam replied with a smile. She was proud of the science department; they'd done an amazing job to get everything completed as quickly as they had.

"The Captain and I are very impressed with your efforts in the department, What was your last assignment like?"

"What was it like? It was great. Like the Orion, I arrived while the ship was still in drydock and was able to set things up from the beginning. We were sent beyond Romulan space to explore. I enjoyed it a great deal." She shrugged. "I was sorry to leave it, but I'm here, and I'm looking forward to this new adventure."

The doors opened and Montgomery arrived, dressed in a loud Hawaiian shirt and an even louder pair of shorts. Tucked under his arm was a surf board. "Greetings everyone" he said cheerily.

John laughed when he saw Montgomery, "Can you use that thing?"

"That remains to be seen" said Montgomery chuckling. "I used to be quite the pro in my teen years but alas, I havn't been on one since". He looked around taking in the surroundings. "Not bad John, reminds me of the place I picked when I was XO."

Alex entered not long after the Commander did. She wore a pink bikini top and a pair of matching jean short shorts. After looking around the scene for a little bit, she turned and walked toward the group. "Hey." She said casually.

"Alex, come on and get something cool to drink" John noticed the temp was getting hotter..

She smiled brightly and moved to the bar. "I'll have a..." She paused, inclining her head slightly as she thought. "lemonade?"

She took her drink and turned back around looking at her surroundings. "It's very pretty here..who designed the program?"

John stretched his arms wide, "I saw it in an old travel book and thought I would re-create it, Of course I added the Bar and the band you will be hearing at dinner."

Chris entered the holodeck wearing a pair of navy blue swimming trunks, a comfortable plain white T-shirt and flip flops. Waving at the group, he walked to the bar and asked for a sweet iced tea.

Samantha walked over to Chris. "How are you doing?"

Chris took a drink of his tea and smiled, "Hey Sam, I'm doing well. You look amazing, how are you doing?"

"Thank you," she said with a smile. "I'm doing well."

Alex looked down from the big white clouds in the sky when she heard Chris's voice. She looked at him and Sam together, and decided to join them.

Chris saw Alex coming over and smiled, "Hello Alex." Chris gave Alex a quick peck on the check since this was an informal gathering.

"Alex, I brought some swiming trunks this time." Chris laughed.

"wow. i'm glad you could remember this time." she said casually as she gave him a hug.

Sam looked from one to the other, trying not to chuckle. "I guess this means dancing is out?" She was okay with going back to Freddy, but she couldn't resist teasing Chris.

"I'm sorry Sam, perhaps later when Alex grows tired of me." Chris smiled.

Sam chuckled. "I don't think that's very likely, do you?" She thought it was cute to see the two of them together. Still chuckling, she walked over to the Captain.

Sam looked at the surfboard by Montgomery. "Do you surf, Commander?"

"I was just talking with Mr Sheridan, I used to but it's been a while so I'd get ready with a holo imager if you want some material to laugh over in years to come! I'm sure the computer will create another if you'd like to join me?"

"I'd love to, but I've never surfed before and wouldn't know where to begin," Sam confessed.

Montgomery grinned, "No time like the present, Computer add one surfboard, match the parameters of my own, detail in pale blue." The board materialised on the sand in front of them. "Lets go have a try, then we can get a drink and join everyone else for food."

Back at the bar, Doctor Bowen came in, wearing casual clothes from a T-shirt, shorts and sneakers after she got the message for everyone to join the holodeck. She was not sure about coming and rather work than play. Someone has told her before that she needed to relax. Right now, she feels a little shy and thinks that it is normal being around new people. She only smiles when smiled to. She found an empty chair and took a seat.

Sheridan saw Bowen, "Get a drink and join us Doc."

Leanne looked at the handsome man that spoke, reminding herself that it was the second officer of this ship. He is one that women can swoon over, she thought as she gave a smile. "Yes, sir." She removed herself from the chair and walked over to the place that was giving drinks out. She ordered a soft drink and stood there, looking at everybody socializing.

Damon wandered into the holodeck and was greeted with a simulated blast of warm air and bright sunlight in his eyes. He smiled at the heat and slowly slipped on his sunglasses.

"Been too long." He said to no one.

Noting that most of the people invited had found their way to the beach, he felt nothing of taking his tiki shirt off and draping it over a beach chair near the bar. He had brought his own bottle of alcohol, a rare vintage of Andorran Ale, and popped it's cork before taking a light sip of the strong drink.

Samantha untied her skirt and dropped it onto the sand and set her flower on top of it -- the hibiscus wouldn't survive the water. Then she picked up the board and followed the commander. "I hope you know what you're doing here. I'm about to make a colossal fool of myself." She imitated Montgomery as he paddled out a ways, then tried to stand on her board. She managed to ride it for a short way before falling off. The tether helped her keep the board from drifting off as she pulled it to shore. She looked up as she pulled her board in and noticed that the Marine CO had arrived.

Damon watched from the beach as Samantha tried her luck with the waves. She looked like she may have had it at one point for a few seconds, but then tilted over and crashed back into the water. He laughed a bit and then let out a whistle of encouragement.

Leanne groaned as she watched some of them run out to the ocean to surf. She hoped that they don't get injured while on vacation. Not much of a risk-taker myself, she thought as she picked up a drink and took a sip.

Sheridan laughed as Sam hit the water..."Your doing great." he yelled.

"Great is a relative term. I stood up. Briefly," Samantha replied to Sheridan with a grin. She looked at Damon, "You ever surfed?"

He grinned widely. "Oh yes. Every year my sister's family and I go on shore leave together. We pick the hot spots for surfing as our destination." He looked around him at the simulation. "In fact I've actually surfed in Hawaii a number of times. Great pipelines here."

Sam put her hands on her hips. "Okay, then come show me how it's done."

"Not a chance." He shook his head. "Simulated waves can't touch the real thing. Besides," He lifted the bottle of Ale. "I've been drinking." He smirked.

Sam walked over to him with an impish grin. "Coward."

Damon laughed loudly before taking another swig of the alcohol.

"Besides," He yelled to her as she walked away. "it's much more fun watching you try."

Chuckling, she went back to the surfboard and tried again, with marginal success. She tried a third time and almost made it. Thinking that was enough for the moment, she pulled the surfboard onto the sand, put the hibiscus flower in her hair and tied her skirt around her waist.

Damon pulled up another lawn chair and buried it in the sand beside his. With a wave he motioned her over to take the seat.

Sam stopped by the tiki bar to get herself a glass of passion fruit juice and then sat down in the chair next to Damon.

Chris set his tea down and pulled his t-shirt off. "Alex, would you like to go surfing, it a lot of fun. I will be in the water for a bit, it you decide to come join me." Chris went down by the water and had the computer replicate two more surfboards. Chris took one and headed out into the water. Sitting on the surfboard he headed for deep water. Paddling while he laid on his stomach he found his first wave.

Once he was picked up by the wave, he stood up on his board. Chris began to ride down the face of the wave with a series of carves and cut backs trying to stay with the wave. After a minute or so the wave died out and Chris dropped off into the water. Getting back on his board he began to paddle back out.

Chris again found a wave. This time, it was a rather big one. He had no problems getting on this one. In a matter of seconds he found himself in the tube. It was a perfect sight; Chris was almost completely hidden by the wave. For what seemed like several minutes, Chris was in the tube. Abruptly the wave came crashing down on Chris, surfboard and man collided as the water came crashing down and then they were gone.

Sheridan walked over to the bar for a refill, the air was perfect. he saw the small band was starting to play under the Palm fronded stage... it was very pleasant island medley, the food smelled fantastic too..

Damon watched as Lieutenant Brooks took the pipe and cheered. "You know what, I have a feeling i'm going to like that guy." He said turning to Samantha. "That's a hell of a first impression. Mind you, your first impression was better." He ended with a smile.

"I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing," Sam replied, returning his smile.

"Well you certainly didn't crash at the end of yours."

"True, but I also didn't stay up. However, since I've never been on a surfboard before, I'm pleased with not making a total fool of myself," Sam said with a chuckle.

"Funny thing about making a fool of yourself is that it doesn't really matter so long as you are having fun doing it." He thought back to the MANY times he had proved that statement true.

"That sounds like you're speaking from personal experience," Sam replied. "Do you do this often?"

"Make a fool of myself? Plenty of times. The way I look at it everyone who puts themselves out there to try something new risks looking a little foolish. The greatest gains come with the chance of spectacular loss. Hell, if you can have some fun along the way, so much the better." He thought about adding how true that was with regards relationships, but decided his footing was still a little soft to broach the topic.

Sam nodded. "You're right. History is full of people who took great risks. They either succeeded brilliantly, or failed miserably. Sometimes it was the second or third time before they succeeded." She gave him a sideways look as she took a drink of her juice. "And life is too short not to take chances."

Chris slowly surfaced with his board, walking out of the water and dropping the board in the sand. He went back to the bar, picking up his tea, re-joining Alex.

"Alex, would you like to go for a walk along the beach?" Chris asked.

The sunset was wonderful that evening as the officers sat down for dinner and a variety of island entertainment, later some night swimming....

Thanks all for attending!
