[OLD]

"Do you have specific ideas on how to do this?" Sam asked. SHe looked at Damon. As a Marine himself he would have more ideas on this than she did.

[NEW]

Leo looked over at Kyt, letting her take the stand this time.

Damon was intrigued by the idea. He waited patiently for Kyt to lay out the suggested plans before he would offer his thoughts.

"The task force hasn't been properly planned yet. I would assume, that as Marine Commander Mangalia and I have differing specialties, we would teach each other, and each other's forces, how to better mount attacks, across the board. I am expecting new Security officers, as well. Some of them may be added to this force." Kyt said, with a nod. "The task force will be made mostly out of special teams, rather that blunt force attacking, with as few casualties as possible."

Damon nodded at the sensibility of it. A specialised group would be easier to mobilise in a crisis and he would expect a highly efficient team if they were to be fully cross trained. Still, there would need to be some things cleared up before he could offer his suggestion to the Captain.

"How big of a group are you considering?" He asked.

"The main force, itself, perhaps 20 in total. Additional specialist groups may be added, as needed." Kyt said, with a nod.

"But I think a round twenty would be best. These men and women are going to have the hardest task we ask of anyone. They're expected to be Sappers, Security, Marine, Brig Officers, Spies, Counter Boarding, Counter Guerrilla, and still keep a running count of how many days until they retire." Leo looked at the two Officers of the boat, and shook his head. "For all we know, it could never work."

Damon nodded, though, He had spent time with the Calypso's Marines and knew that most of them would be up to the challenge. He figured Kyt would be pushing security officers just as hard to match performance.

"I assume this means that the people involved would need to be pulled out of active duty for training and team building purposes. With that in mind, are you assigning the positions or are you looking for volunteers?"

"Volunteers," Leo said looking at the old Marine CO. "I figure I'll have ten men or women that would like to be on a special squad like this one."

"Under whose process will they be trained? Starfleet and the SFMC have different ways of doing things, especially when it comes to pulling the trigger." The XO asked.

"Whatever one causes the least casualties." Kyt said. "Our track record needs improvement."

"Ours isn't much better," Leo said with a shrug. "Is there an outside source either one of you would propose? Because the Marines don't have the best record in the galaxy, stemming from the MACO days."

"Actually it's because of that fact that I think you two will be the best people for the job. Knowing our failings will make training in those areas all the more critical." Damon gave them each a nod to add his faith in them.

"Something else to consider is that you will both likely be spending some of your off duty time to work this program. You both have full time responsibilities within your departments to take care of first. Those take priority." He turned to look to Sam "Could some of the day to day responsibilities be given away to their seconds?" He asked "It would go above their duty requirements."

"Definitely," she said to Damon. She looked at Leo and Kyt."I second the Commander's opinion. As far as I'm concerned he is the expert in these matters so his word stands." She had always turned to Damon in such matters and was more than willing to let him make the final decision here.

"I'm not sure I'd trust Daniels with my day to day responsibilities." Kyt said, with a chuckle. "I'm contemplating reevaluating him being the assistant chief."

"I think he will be fine," Sam assured her. "What better way to evaluate his suitability than to put him in charge in your absence?"

"I think Noelle needs a good strong test," Leo agreed, then shot a look at Damon. "Please don't drive her insane, she's only been here for what, a week?"

"What better way to evaluate her suitability." Kyt parroted Sam's statement.

Damon allowed a bit of a smirk at the truth of Kyt's mirror. "Well at least if she is new she can work the new responsibilities into her routine before it becomes set. Better now than later. You will decide what both of you can handle, not me."

The XO leaned heavily into his chair and folded his arms across his chest. "What's left now is to draft up a progress table. I know it's difficult to do with a program that's never been tried before, but we need to see very real progress in short order to justify the time invested in it."

He thought for a minute about the scope of this program. Really, it would likely be a re-education for some of them. The difficulty lie in the fact that many of them had been indoctrinated to a set pattern of doing things right out of high school and had continued doing such for years. Some of them may need to be broken down and reassembled from the ground up.

"Between the two of you," He said leaning forward on his chair and placing his hands on the table "I want a detailed outline of the program you have in mind to implement, including the details of the responsibilities you will be handing off to your subordinates. With those I can determine realistic end date."

Damon next locked eyes with both of the officers standing in front of him. "I like this idea, I really do. I think it has potential. I want to make myself clear, though, if it starts to look like the progress is slow or I don't like what I'm seeing in any aspect, I will pull the plug. I'm looking to be impressed here and you two, more than any other officers on this ship, know how difficult I can be to impress." He steeled his expression.

"In this matter you will report to Commander Raine. If he pulls the plug, you're done," she informed the two. "I will abide by his decision. Understood?"

Kyt nodded.

Sam looked at Leo, Kyt and Damon. "Anything else we need to discuss right now?"

"Not that I am aware of." Kyt said, shaking her head.

"Good. I look forward to seeing what you come up with," Sam said.
