The Forests of Mythraeli
Location: Mythraeli
Timeline: Current
[Jason Hart, Stran, Yvette Jaymes]
[OLD]
Bzzt.
"You are not unconscious. Something is wrong. Instead of disappearing all over the countryside, perhaps we should go find the others?" Stran asked.
[NEW]
"What the hell?" He said as he was surprised that the Vulcan just aimed his phaser at him. "Trying to kill me?" He looked over at the nurse, "Jaynes, get your tricorder and do some scans of the area. This has gone weird."
"Yes, sir," Nurse Jaynes said.
Jason hit his combadge, "Doctor Hart to Captain York..."
No response.
"Well, I guess our combadges don't work," Doctor Hart said.
"That was exactly my point." Stran said. "But you were not seeming to listen to reason."
"Well, you didn't test it, so I tested it to make sure," Jason said, feeling agitated at the Vulcan. "If you know so much, then tell us why this is happening?" He turned to leave the Vulcan standing there on his own to figure it out. He went over to the nurse. "Did you find something, nurse?"
"Not really, these readings are jumping all over the place. At one point, it appeared to show a lifeform over there, but there is nothing there," she said as she worked with the tricorder. "It looks as if there is something wrong with this...", Yvette said as she closed her instrument. "I would suggest following the footsteps, but it looks to me that Ensign Stran is not interested in doing so."
"I don't think he's ever been on a camping trip," Jason said in a whisper.
She nodded, "Vulcans think everything is logic. Well, I would suggest building a fire here as it will get dark in an hour or so and the temperature will drop."
"Wise." Stran said with a nod. "We will need kindling, and foodstuffs. I have provisions for two people for, at most, 3 days. What of you two?"
"I have prepared brought a tent for two and rations for at least 4 days," Yvette said. "I was afraid that I came overprepared..."
"Better than nothing," Jason said. "I have the same thing, Vulcan. I guess there is no point in wasting time trying to get out of this mess. We better camp here. I'm glad that pond is still here if we need water. We will have to test it before we drink it."
The Vulcan nodded, and then stopped, looking at his tricorder, with it's blank screen. "And how, per say, are you planning to do that?" Stran asked.
"We always have a backup equipment in case we run into problems. It's a container that filters the water as well as giving a reading of the types of bacteria being filtered. Yvette, show him the G-Kill container."
Yvette opened her bag and pulled out a long silver tube. She opened the top, "pour water into this and it filters through the bottom. The read out is displayed on the side," she said as she pointed. Nothing can stop this..."
"Anyways, that's what we will use if we need it. You need to get some camping skills, Stran. We are both prepared," Jason said as he shook his head. He bent down and pulled out the tent from his bag and stretched it out till it expanded to 5 feet high by 5.5 feet wide. "Limit for this is 2 people. I sure hope you have your tent, Vulcan."
"My sleeping bag is both lightweight, and exceptionally good at insulating one's body heat. It also encompasses one's entire body, rather than just leaving the head out. A tent is not necessary." Stran noted.
"Well, good. I'm going into my tent and eat some of my rations...", Doctor Hart said.
Yvette set her tent and went inside hers.
Stran laid, carefully pondering their surroundings. Looking for things to move. He pondered what the hell was going on, and simply stared up at the stars, for a great amount of time.
Movement caught his eye, in the corner of his eye, for some hours. Sleep did not come to him, but there were more pressing concerns, he decided. He turned his attention to his surroundings. It was quiet. Things moved in the background. He focused carefully. He waited for the others to wake up.
Doctor Hart went to sleep for a little awhile and woke up when he heard something. He grabbed his phaser for a minute and put it away as he remembered that it doesn't work. Jason slowly crawled to the front of the tent and unzipped it to carefully look out. He whispered, "Stran, you there?"
Stran nodded, from a sitting position. "The flora and fauna are definitely questionable, as to how it is divided. From what I have observed, some of the trees apparently have a tendency to shift their position, slightly. It doesn't seem like much, while they are being observed, but it changes vastly, when we are not paying attention. I have been attempting to use familiar stars as a reference point to the creation of a basic navigational tool, however we now have an issue."
He nodded to, as far as he could tell, was the local 'east'. "I estimate no more than three point two hours of stellar visibility."
"Oh," he said as he yawned. He came out of the tent and looked around. Jason couldn't see much as it is not daylight, yet. He looked over at Yvette's tent, "I guess she is still asleep."
"Most unfortunate." Stran said with a nod. "The treeline has changed, as well." He added.
"Sounds like the trees are walking around," he joked. Jason pulled out a nylon jacket from the tent and slide his arms through them. "Feels a little chilly out here."
"The temperature has dropped 7.42 degrees centigrade, in total, since our arrival." Stran stated.
"It feels that way," he said as he crossed his arms and looked around. "I have a hunch that there must be someone out there. I definately heard something while I was in my tent."
"I am thinking that your definition of 'someone' is not likely broad enough. I have a theory, under the basis that when you remove all that is not possible, whatever is left, however improbable, is all that remains." Stran said. "I believe the forest, either at large, or individually, may have a level of intelligence we had not anticipated."
"Oh, great. Maybe mind meld with a tree to communicate to it?" Doctor Hart frowned at the situation, because he thinks that either this world is crazy or Stran has lost his mind.
"That is a likely possibility. We could try actually talking with them, however." Stran said. He did not catch the emotional edge attached to the phrase.
Jason shook his head and went over to pack up his tent, stored up the equipment, and dispose some leftover rations. "I guess there is no other options," he said outloud. He heard somebody groaning like being in pain. He looked to where the sound was coming from and realized that it was Yvette's tent. "Something doesn't sound right," he said as he approached her tent. "Nurse? Is everything okay?" He stayed outside and waited.
