The Forests of Mythraeli
Location: Mythraeli
Timeline: Current
[Jason, Yvette and Stran]
[OLD]
Jason shook his head and went over to pack up his tent, stored up the equipment, and dispose some leftover rations. "I guess there is no other options," he said outloud. He heard somebody groaning like being in pain. He looked to where the sound was coming from and realized that it was Yvette's tent. "Something doesn't sound right," he said as he approached her tent. "Nurse? Is everything okay?" He stayed outside and waited.
[NEW]
A growning sound came again.
Doctor Hart decided to unzip her tent when he didn't get an answer from her. He walked in, finding Yvette curled into a fetal position and sweating. He quickly went to her cot and placed a hand on her forehead. "Yvette?"
She opened her eyes for a minute and closed it.
"You have a fever. Did you eat something before you went to bed?"
"Yes...rations. Abdominal pain," she said as she kept her eyes closed.
Doctor Hart stood up, "I'll be right back." He went around and approached the Vulcan as he picked up the medical tricorder. "Nurse Jaynes has abdominal pain and I will be with her. Let me know what you find with the trees."
Stran nodded. "Indeed." He stared at the tree-line, waiting to find a target tree that was mobile.
After he opened his medical tricorder as he entered Yvette's tent, Jason found it to be malfunctioned and remembered that it has to do with the planet's affect. Crap, he thought as he closed it and tossed it on a plastic box. He sat down next to her on the cot, "Yvette, is the pain constant? in waves?"
She held her stomach as she remained in a fetal position. "In waves," she groaned.
Jason put his two fingers on her wrist to check her pulse for a few seconds and let go. "Is there something else you did that might have caused this? I wouldn't think it is the rations as I have eaten some, too."
Yvette relaxed a little as the pain subsided. She paused to think for a minute. "What about the water?"
"Good thinking...maybe. Let me get you an antibotic. We have no way of testing it since our equipment doesn't work." Jason stood up and walked over to open a plastic container and pulled out a bottle of pills. It was a backup plan in case anything fails. He pulled out a small package of saline solution. He went back over to her cot, gave her the pills and the bag of fluid.
"What do you want me to do with this?"
"Drink it," he ordered. "It will be salty but at least it is clean water. The antibotic will help fight the germs. I'm sure filtering the water didn't help..."
"Okay," she said as she swallowed the pills and made a face when she drank the water. She handed the empty bag back to him. "Where is the Vulcan?"
"He is getting ready to mind meld with a tree."
"Is he insane?" She frowned at him.
"I think it is more that this planet is insane...something is moving out there and he thinks that the trees are living beings. I don't know. I am going to sit in a chair over there so I can keep an eye on you, plus that will give Stran some privacy with the trees." Jason stood up and picked up a folding chair, walked over to the other side of the tent and sat down.
It must be my imagination...my fever...Vulcan mind melding with a tree? Yvette wondered. The pain has eased some, but not as strong as before. She was able to straighten her legs instead of being in a fetal position. Sleep feeling has overwhelmed her, so she decided to sleep.
Stran approached one of the trees. "Greetings. I am Ensign Stran, of the Federation Starship Calypso. To whom, or what, am I speaking?" He asked, greeting the tree that he had observed move most.
The tree, for it's part, didn't pay him any attention.
"Then, forgive me for my intrusion." Stran said, as he began climbing it. He was swatted at a couple times. Finally, he rested on one of the branches, and placed both hands on the main hulk of the tree. "My mind, to your mind. Our minds, as one." Stran muttered.
The tree, for it's part, seemed to resent this intrusion, but was shocked by the fact that one of these strange creatures was able to talk with it.
I am Ensign Stran of the Starship Calypso. To whom am I speaking. Stran said, in polite mental speech.
Gibberish responded to him. Something he didn't immediately understand. Stran searched the 'mind' of the tree, attempting to find a common form of language, or something similar.
You speak in gibberish words. Quit it with your bothersome noise-makers.
I'm not making any noise. Stran thought. Just having a conversation.
Your metal things. They make noises. They bother us.
Stran opened his eyes. "The tricorders?" He asked, allowed, curious. "How strange."
The tree dislodged him, with a good smack, and he landed on a rock. Green covered his vision. Oh dear. This is not good.
Jason thought he heard a "thump" outside as he remained in a chair, watching Yvette. He quietly walked out of her tent and looked around. The night was beginning to turn to daylight. He glanced to find the Vulcan on the ground near a tree. He took off running and dropped to his knees next to the Vulcan. "Stran! You okay?"
Nothing responded, as Stran seemed unable to respond. He frowned at the tree. Help please. He thought.
The tree ignored him.
Jason waved a hand in front of his eyes that appear to be staring straight up at a tree. "Stran? Can you hear me?"
"Yes." His lips moved. No sound came forth from them.
Jason sat back on his knees and picked up his wrist to check Stran's pulse. He is meditating, he thought.
Stran scowled, uncomfortable with the jagged rocks in his back. He could barely think anymore.
Seeing that the Vulcan was squirming, Jason put his hand under his back and pulled out a few rocks. "Hope that helps," he said, not expecting Stran to respond. He sat back, wondering if the Vulcan had any luck with communicating with the tree.
Stran scowled. It occurred to him that, for a Doctor, he didn't seem all that medically inclined. He reminded himself, provided he survived this, that he would leave a scolding letter on the Doctor's desk about it.
Jason wondered why the Vulcan is scowling. He left to check on Yvette.
You shall die. By my hand. Stran thought to himself. This is a promise.
