Mission: The Forests of Mythraeli
Location: Conference Room
Timeline: Current

[Calypso Conference Room]

[OLD]

She seems green, Doctor Bowen thought as she looked at Serena and assumed that she is too new. "Um, Lieutenant Jones? I believe you haven't been to sickbay for your physical and I would suggest you get it done before you can go down to the planet." Leanne looked around the table, seeing a few averted their eyes from her. "As for any of you who hasn't had their physical up-to-date, I will flag you down. You never know what the unknown planets have in their atmosphere if they are breathable for us," She looked over at Leo, "that goes for your marines, too."

[NEW]

Serena looked at the Doctor as she was speaking with her and the others. After Bowen was finished she stated, "I do believe I have an appointment with you this afternoon Doctor." Then she gave a sweet smile to her.

"I don't have my scheduled appointments in front of me, but I guess I will see you this afternoon," Leanne nodded. She looked at the Captain, "have they done their studies of the planet's atmosphere, ma'am? I am just concerned about safety issues here..."

"Scans show the atmosphere to be sufficient to sustain life. Nothing harmful was detected, Doctor," Sam assured her. "Lieutenant Jones, as this is an exploratory team, I have no problem with you flying the shuttle down."

Marek stepped forward. "I'd like to assist the science team with their equipment," he knew it was the creative reason but it was the best he could ad lib at the time. "With your permission Chief?" He glanced at Kahlaras.

Kahlaras looked at the man."You may go. Please do nothing to dishonor Engineering or myself." he said.

"You can count on me sir," Marek replied.

Leo looked to the Doctor and nodded. He'd have to check to see who hadn't been set up with a check up. He figured that he too was in dire need of one. "Doc, if you can give me a list, I'll personally make sure they come to you today."

"For pure interest in safety and security, the marines or security personnel should have basic first aid training as well." Daniels said. "The security department only lists Ensigns Daniels, and John, and Loretta Wilcox. John Wilcox is off the duty roster, pending combat and medical recertification."

He patiently awaited what he expected from either Raine or Mangalia. Someone to tell him to take a flying leap, because Security wasn't welcome with the away team, after it's previous showings. He had to suggest it anyways, even if it's something Jaxara wouldn't do. After all, he wasn't department head anymore. He looked from Mangalia, to Raine, and back again, awaiting the sharply worded reprimand.

The doctor nodded at the men and leaned back in her chair.

Typical to the way Damon operated, he waited until everyone else had spoken before chipping in.

"All of our Marines are already trained in first aid, so that won't be a concern going forwards." He looked at Daniels." As for the security department, I see no reason why you can't have a presence. Though I will mention that they will likely be involved in helping the science teams gather data, this is an exploration trip after all. So make sure whoever goes is good with a tricorder."

Damon then turned to his Marine XO. "I have no qualms about you going down. I should think you would need no more than a fire team for support." His eyebrow then lifted. "I'm wondering why you want choice over the Marines who go? Seems like a simple 'eyes on' mission for you, a diverse skill set probably won't be necessary."

"I like to cover all my bases sir." Leo smiled and almost laughed. "But you know me too well, I don't like feeling unprotected no matter where I go. With our past missions, I'd feel better with someone having a big gun on my side." Shrugging he added, "Or maybe I'm just paranoid."

"Whatever your reasons, I see no problem with you picking your own team." Damon conceded. "Just be sure to let them know what kind of mission this is."

"Strictly voluntary and research only," Leo said with a shrug, typing out several names and passing the PADD to Damon. "My choices," he said simply. It only had Lance Corporal Guntold on there, leaving the rest of his normal team on the ship.

Damon suddenly understood why Leo wanted to choose his team. This wouldn't have been his first choice to have on active assignment.

"I can use a tricorder. A few others can too." Daniels said with a nod. "I'll make sure the section chief submits the candidates to whoever is leading the away team."

"Who's leading the away team will depend on who's going," Sam said. "If all goes well we may spend a few extra days here and give the crew some shore leave." She looked sternly around the table. "But before you even hint at shore leave I want to be sure it's safe. Understood?"

Leo nodded and looked around. Shore leave would be good for the morale, but he didn't like taking any himself. All work and very little play was what drove his life. "Mum's the word Captain."

Sam nodded in response to Leo's comment.

Leanne Bowen squirmed in her chair as she is ready to get back to sickbay. Come on people, I've got paperwork to do...

Nava listened quietly to the discussion but had little to offer at this point.

Daniels nodded. "I'm fairly certain there is more active discussion of more interesting topics, than the rumor of shore leave, in the security department, ma'am. You needn't worry about that one."

As the rest of the officers began disscussing who should be on the away team, Damon leaned over to Leo and spoke quietly between them. "You know that Guntold is on restricted duty, why take her on an away mission?"

"Everyone needs a second chance Colonel. You've gotten them, I've got them." Leo Shrugged, keeping his voice low. "And I need someone that's a marksman, and I'm not sending Corporal Shintaku anywhere until she gets a attitude adjustment."

"I would like to do an aerial survey of the planet before we send down the team," Sam said. "Get as much information as we can. Anyone wanting to go on the away team meet in the main shuttle bay in six hours. That'll give us plenty of time to get everything we need set up. In the meantime, those not going down to the planet can set a light duty rotation. This should be a nice little side trip after the problems on Turkana IV. So, unless you have any questions, you're dismissed."

Serena nodded her head with a smile on her face. She looked around the room once more and got up from her chair and headed towards the bridge, to her station.

Leo looked at Damon, the Captain, then everyone and stood. He wasn't going to sit around any more than he had to. It was evident that the mission was a go, and it was time to get ready for it.
