[Somewhere in the Corridors]
Doctor Hart left Sickbay to respond to Engineering as Doctor Bowen needed to stay behind to monitor a few patients that arrived. Jason had no choice but to be an acting medic to respond to an emergency call.
He was running with his medi-kit when the ship rocked and he flew, loosing his balance, and fell to the floor. Someone saw his fall and came to help him up. "Thanks," he said to a young man.
They should use transporters for emergencies, but they are all down...even the turbolifts, he thought as he headed to the Jefferies' tube to climb down till he reached the deck. He felt some bruises on his knees as he moved downward on the ladders. It was going to be awhile till he gets to Engineering.
As soon as he made it, he couldn't find Marek. "Do you happen to know where Ensign Lovok is?" He asked a younger man working at one of the consoles.
A random engineer rushed up to the doctor, "I heard he left with two others to fix an EPS conduit." The engineer went to a console and accessed the locator protocol in the communications grid and found Marek's exact position. "Here." The engineer gestured for the doctor to look.
"Great! More Jefferies to climb in. Thanks...", Jason said as he left the engineering room into the Jefferies' tube to climb downward. The ship rocked again and he stopped to hold on to the ladder. He waited a few seconds and continued the climb till he reached the right deck. He unbuckled the strap holding the medi-kit from his back and held it in his hand as he strode through the corridor.
Seeing the area where some consoles were smoking, he walked into the room full of fog. "Marek Lovok?" he yelled through area, having trouble seeing through smoke.
The burned Romulan could hear faintly his name being called and shifted his position softly as not to agitate his already firing pain receptors any further but no luck. Marek moaned loudly as some of his face had been burned.
Jason heard someone moaning as he walked in further, trying to be careful of any sparks or fires. "Where did you say you are, Marek?"
"Here!" Marek did his best to draw attention to his location and put as much effort into his voice as he could. It hurt like hell. "Ahhhhhhh," Marek screamed.
[Engineering]
Kahlaras tapped his comm badge as another hit rocked the ship"Kahlaras to Marek, Marek respond... Damn." he said under his breath. Engineering was beginning to look like a junkyard with all the pieces of conduit and panel lying around. Consoles were blown everwhere and he had a few injured crew members.*I hope the medics get here soon.* he thought to himself as the ship shook once more this time throwing him to the floor."Engineering to bridge, whats going on up there?!"
[Somewhere in the Corridors]
Marek had heard his superior call him on his combadge but his burns now prevented him from reaching for his combadge a second time.
Jason ran around as the smoke has filled a part of the corridors. As soon as he located Marek's voice, he grabbed him from falling to the floor and assisted him to move away from the area full of smoke. The burning smell was getting to him, forcing him to cough with an achying pain in his lungs. Just outside the room, he helped him sit on the floor and opened up his medi-kit to pull out the tricorder. He found second degree burns to half of his face and eighty percent on his hands. The burns looked pretty extensive. "How you doing, Marek?" He asked while getting his mind off the pain. He pulled out a hypospray. "Is there anybody else in the area that might be hurt?" He said louder over the popping noise from some consoles burning closeby.
Between groans and loud grunts as the Romulan was helped in a seated position, Marek attempted to gesture where he had been working. "Two," he managed to say through a tensed jaw.
After he gave the Romulan an injection of pain medication, he placed the instrument back into the kit and stood up. "Stay right there," Jason said as put his hand to his mouth and nose and ran back into the area.
He jumped back when a flame lighted up one area and widely dispersed the console. He carefully went past it, walking into a greyish smoke. It was like walking blind. As soon as he his foot hit something, he bent down and tried to see the person with his watery eyes. Jason blinked a few times as he put his fingers to the man's neck.
No use, Doctor Hart thought as he stood up and kept walking blindly, moving further into the area. "Anybody else here?" he asked loudly, then he coughed.
He heard a moan.
"Yell, so I can hear you!" He slowly moved toward the sound.
Just as he heard the man yelled "help", he quickly went towards the sound and bent down. "Come on, get up!" Jason put his arm under the man's arm and used his strength to lifted him up. "Walk with me!"
They both moved quickly out of the room before another flame shot out and disappeared.
Jason carefully set the man down next to the Romulan. He looked at the young man who had burns to his shoulder and left arm that didn't appear to be that serious. Just as he was about to talk to the person, he fell unconscious. He checked his carotid pulse to find that he is still alive.
Coughing, he looked at Marek. "He is just out. I think he will be okay. The other person that was in there is already dead." He pulled out the hypospray and injected the unconscious man with a pain killer and replaced it into his kit.
A flash of sadness washed over what's left of Marek's unburned face for only a few moments before pain spiked but for a few seconds before it died down.
"I will have to treat you here until the transporter is back online. I have no other choice," he said as he bent down on his knees and took out a dermal regenerator. He turned the Romulan's face to one side and used the instrument to seal the burns to his face.
Marek groaned as the Doctor turned his head to treat the burn. He decided to distract himself by thinking about why the Transporter was offline.
He hit his combadge, "Doctor Hart to Chief Engineer...can you hear me?" I hope the communication works..., he thought as he continuted to work on Marek's face. He had to stop to cough a few times to clear his lungs of smoke inhalation. This is going to be a hell of a day.
Kahlaras heard the comm come through on his badge."This is Kahlaras, who would this be?"
"Doctor Hart from sickbay...I'm down on deck 12 and I'm treating your engineering officer with burns to his face and hands. I believe that you tried to call Ensign Lovok..."
"Yes that is him, is he conscious?" Kahlaras asked as he began to run diagnostics on the transporter systems.
"Yes, at the moment. Just gave him a painkiller..."
"Ensign this is Kahlaras, whatever you did worked the grid is no longer out of sync. Do what the doctor says and get to sickbay ASAP. Doctor my diagnostics of the transporters have come back and its gonna take a few days to get them running but I may be able to get you a site to site if I do things right down here. Its about a 30% chance though."
"Sir, if you do lock on to us," he paused to cough, "we have just one more that is unconscious next to Lovok. I hope this works."
"Standby." Kahlaras said as he began to work away on the console in front of him. All he needed to do was re-route auxilary power to the targeting scanners and have them set for a site to site transport within the ship. He then had to engage power to the pattern buffers and insure the transporters knew exactly where they were beaming the others to.
Once he was finished and the coordinates were locked in he contacted the doctor again."Kahlaras to Doctor Hart, I have your patterns locked on with the transporters let me know when your ready and I'll beam the three of you out of there directly to sickbay. This will only work once though."
Jason went over to stand beside Marek and held onto his medi-kit, "Okay, I'm ready, Commander".
Marek was beginning to feel better with the medication but the stiffness of his burnt skin as he tried to move about send spikes of pain through him. He closed his eyes and focused on relaxing, he looked like he was sleeping.
Kahlaras had internal sensors in that area for a breif moment."Ok locking on, energizing!" he said as the a blue confinement beam engulfed the 3 crew members and rematerialized them into a crowded sickbay."Did it work?" Kahlaras asked.
[Sickbay]
He looked around and was astonished of how crowded sickbay was. "Yes! It worked! Thanks, Commander. I'll keep you inform of Marek's condition. Doctor Hart out."
"I will continue to work on those transporters Doctor." Kahlaras responded as the line cut, he turned to a console and began to work away figuring out how he was going to keep them online permanently.
Doctor Hart turned and bent down to help Marek up. He yelled at a medical technician to come get the unconscious man and place him somewhere that has an extra cot, as he noticed that all the biobeds were full. "Let's get you over here," he said as he kept his arm under his arm, walking with him. By the time he reached an empty cot, he helped the Romulan laid down on it. He took off his medi-kit and pulled out the dermal regenerator to work on Marek's hands.
A medical technician came up to him to ask about the unconscious man that he found.
"I haven't," Jason coughed, "had a chance to scan him, but I gave him a painkiller."
The technician left just as Doctor Bowen approached, "I'm glad that you were able to transport. What's the status on him?"
Doctor Hart stood up and swayed on his feet.
Leanne reached out and grabbed his arms. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm," he stopped to cough," just a little dizzy from the smoke inhalation. Ensign Lovok here has had burns to one side of his face, but I already fixed it. He," he coughed again. "He has severe burns to his hands and I am working on that."
Doctor Bowen let go of his arms. "I think we should let the nurse work on his hands. We need to get you looked at before exhaustion gets the best of you, Jason. Let's see if we can fix that cough, then maybe you can continue to help everybody as we are very crowded."
He usually doesn't like to be treated as a patient, but at least they can help him with his cough so he can continue to use his skills as a doctor. "Okay," Jason said as he followed her to a biobed.
After Doctor Hart was treated, he continued using his doctoring skills along with Doctor Bowen to treat those that came to sickbay with burns and injuries. At least there was only one death in all this mess...
