John walked into the Main Engineering section to see many crew members moving about checking and rechecking thing vital to the Ships first deployment. The lives of the entire crew was in the hands of this department every minute of every day. Sheridan was hoping to catch a glimpse of the Orion's Chief Engineer and see how things were going...
Alex climbed down to the main level on the wall-connected ladder. She then turned and walked into the main room, where Engineers worked diligently at their assigned tasks. "How are the EPS connectors handling?"
"Redundant core connections are being checked now, ma'am."
"Estimated time to completion?" She asked as she ran her fingers over a few controls on the pool table.
"6 Hours." The Ensign replied.
"I know that's an exaggeration, Ensign...."
"Four hours, Lieutenant."
"See that it's done in three hours, 45 minutes. No cutting corners either."
He gasped. "You don't give us any room for error-"
"There wont' be a margin for error or lost time in a battle situation. You have your orders."
The Ensign turned and walked back toward the core. Alex continued her work on the pool table when she noticed the First Officer standing near her. She smiled brightly at him. "Good morning Lieutenant."
"Hi, how are things going here?"
"We're all very very busy, sir. There's alot to get done. I'm spending most of my time making my staff redo things. I want to make sure they know that nothing but their best will be expected." She replied.
Sheridan was impressed,"Have all your crewmen found there accommodations and getting settled in?"
"For the most part, yes. They all say they're happy where they are for now, at least the ones I've had a chance to talk to."
"Very good, If you need anything please let me know."
"I will be sure too." She looked away, then remembered something suddenly. "Lieutenant, did you get the reports on the cloaking device?"
"Yes, But I'll have to go over the report when I return to the office, I've been out since the last shift. Is there anything I need to be concerned about until I return there?"
"No concern. I've just made a few advancements that will allow us to use power for additional systems like weapons and shields while cloaked. I wouldn't recommend going to warp though.." She replied.
"I see, interesting innovation."
"All and all, we're near ready to go."
John was pleased,"Outstanding, you have done great work for the ship."
There was a loud banging sound from around the corner. Alex turned to the Lieutenant with a smile. "If you'll excuse me."
With that, she turned and dashed around the corner.
