Tovan had watched as the Minister Onasi and her party that was present during the meeting disappear through the door at which they had stopped to make evening plans. He turned around and headed down the corridor to catch up with the rest of his party which by now must have made their way out of the building.
The brief conversation was rather unexpected and so was the dinner invitation. During the meeting in the conference room he had sensed that not everyone enjoyed the fact that Starfleet had managed to be invited to the Peace Conference. Minister Onasi was one of those people, yet she had invited him to dine with her.
Tovan pushed his way past the doors and headed down the stairs towards his party that he could see. He continued to run the difference scenarios in his mind of how the evening was going to unfold. But he realized that he might be getting a little bit ahead of himself. Commander York could put a stop to it all rather quickly. He finally caught up to them.
"Excuse me, Commander York may I speak to you in private..."
Sam had been talking quietly to Damon. "I'll meet you in a few minutes," she told him before turning to Tovan.
"Sure. What do you need?" she asked him.
"I have been approached by Minister Onasi from the Alliance. She has invited me to dine with her this evening." Tovan said while looking at the Commander. He wondered what the reaction would be from her. This wasn't the normal procedure in these situations but sometimes you have to go with what you were given.
Sam raised an eyebrow. "Interesting. I have no problem as long as you don't end up giving her too much information. Making friends always helps in diplomacy."
"Indeed it is." Tovan stated while looking at the Commander and nodding. "Not to worry ma'am, I wasn't planning on giving up any information to her, but I sense that there is more to this than we have been lead to believe. This evening might prove to be a perfect opportunity for us to learn more about the situation."
"Agreed," she said. "There's a lot more going on around here than we're being told. We need to find out as much as we can. And, for the record, if I didn't trust you, I wouldn't be encouraging you to go."
"Thank you, ma'am..." Tovan said with a nod. A smile wanted to creep up on his face as he heard those words from his commanding officer. He felt honored and privileged that she trusted him as much as it seemed but he didn't let it show on his facial expression. "I will try my best not to disappoint you, Commander. And I will report my findings to you as soon as I return from the dinner."
"Excellent. Major Raine and I will be heading out for dinner as well. I'm not sure where we'll be going, but we should be back later this evening."
"I hope you two have a nice time." Tovan said. "The city seems nice enough, at least from what I have been able to see for the windows. I plan on exploring a little bit before heading to dinner. A bit of information collection as well as some research. "
"That's what we plan on doing as well. We can compare notes tonight," Sam replied. "Good luck and have a good time."
Tovan smiled and nodded. "You too, Commander."
