"Is it safe...?" The voice from inside asked.
"More or less..." Ghost responded as he turned his attention over to the Ninja. He took a knee in front of him pulling the knife out of the side of the neck and then grabbed onto the side of the mask and pulled it off. He was surprised by what he saw. It was his old mentor that was under the mask.
And now Winter Fortress, Part VI
"Do you know him?" The man that just stepped out of the locker asked.
Ghost looked up from the body over to the man who was standing by the locker than down to the body in front of him. He shook his head. "No, never seen him before." He dropped the mask down by the dead ninja. "You must be David Campbell..."
The man looked at him in surprise and nodded. "Yes....yes...I am...How do you know who I am?" The man asked as he fixed his lab coat. He took a moment to look at Ghost to examine his ware and his face. "You aren't one of them."
Ghost shook his head. "No, I'm not. I'm the damn fool that was sent here to eliminate this threat." Ghost had made his way away from the body and over to a computer taking a look on what was on the screen. "And April told me I'd find you here. She said you might know a way to stop this mess."
"Did she now?" The man said with a puzzled voice as he came closer to Ghost. "So she is safe, which is very good." He said with a smile. "I do know how to stop that monster. They forced me to work on it until it was complete. "
"They told me that it was completed a few weeks ago." Ghost looked at the man.
"The development process was following that we entered the testing stage in which we tested the weapon in a simulation on multiple different levels. It performed better than we had expected it. It was when these tests were complete that this group took over the facility." David explained to Ghost. He brought up on screen the results
"However, even with the test phase complete and being a success that it was the weapon still wasn't ready to be deployed and used in real world. That is why they kept me around. They needed me to finish the last stages. And I did as they told me. Otherwise they were going to hurt my family." David looked at Ghost. His expressions showed how upset he was about the whole situation.
"Don't worry. I will stop it. I just need you tell me how to do it." Ghost said.
"There is a card that is made out of a shape shifting alloy. It changes depending on the room temperature. So, while you just might have one card in your hands, you really have all three." David explained.
"Interesting..." Ghost said. "So, where is this card?" Ghost was hoping that the man would have the card on him and could just give it to him. But he had a feeling that it wasn't going to be that easy. Nothing here seemed to be that easy. There was always something that made it even harder than it needs to be.
David looked away and sighed. "I don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know?" Ghost grabbed David by his lab coat and turned him so they were face to face.
David acted surprised and fearful as Ghost grabbed him. "Well....it was here. In this lab, but a few days ago it had gone missing. I searched everywhere but couldn't find it. Somebody must have taken it, and without it we can't stop the weapon."
"Damn it!" Ghost said rather loudly. He was growing rather frustrated at this point. He let go of David and stepped away from him. "April...can you hear me...?"
There was a silence for what it seemed to be up to a minute before he heard some static coming from the other end and then that same seductive female voice. "Yes, I'm here."
"I've managed to sneak in and find David. However, we came up to another problem. He told me that there is some kind of a card that needs to be used to stop the GUNDAM. But the problem is that it's gone missing." Ghost explained the situation to April. He kept an eye on David who was at the computer working on something it seemed.
"I had a feeling that the card had some type of a role to play in all this, which is why Gene took it when we first came into the facility." April said.
"So, Gene has the card now?" Ghost had hoped that this wasn't true. It would be very difficult to get the card key away from him. He would have to go after the leader of all this and he didn't want to do that just yet.
"He had it." April responded.
"What do you mean he had it? Who has it now? "
"You do."
"What do you mean I do?"
"Look in the pack that I gave you. I had managed to sneak it out while no one was looking and put it in the pack. I didn't know its purpose but it seemed important enough that it might come in handy."
While April was explaining this to Ghost he had dropped down to a knee and opened the bag she gave him. It was just like she told him. The card was inside. He grabbed it out and examined it. "I got it. David says that I need to insert it three different times. It seems that the card changes depending on the room temperature."
"Okay, but hurry. We only have two hours left." April said. "I've got to go now, they will start to suspect something if I am gone for much longer."
"Alright, watch your back." Ghost said just before their transmission was cut again. He stood up and walked over to David with the card in hand. "Is this what you were talking about?"
"Yes!" He jumped with excitement looking at the card. "Where did you find it?"
Ghost pointed over to a file cabinet. "It was just over there by that file cabinet."
David looked over at the file cabinet and then at Ghost. "You don't know how many times I have gone through this room and for it to be right there the whole time. I must be losing it at my old age."
Ghost laughed at the man and shook his head. "Don't worry, you're not. Gene had it and April managed to get it off him to give it to me."
David looked at Ghost with a deadly glare. "That is not funny. Anyways, now to get down to business." David turned his attention to the screen and brought up a man. "The weapon is located in the hanger that is attached to this building. You should be able to get there without much trouble if you take this route. Once you get there you will need to find a way to warm and also make the card cold. We are in Alaska so it shouldn't be too hard to make it cold, but the warm part I leave to you."
Ghost nodded as he listened to what David was saying. He also took a mental image of the map that was shown on the screen so he knew where to head.
"I am going to stay back here and monitor your progress. The cards need to be inserted in following order; room temperature, cold, and finally warm. The card can only be used once. So be careful. Make sure that the card is to the correct color before using it."
"I got it." Ghost nodded again as he looked at David.
"Alright... I guess I shouldn't keep you here any longer...Good luck." David led Ghost over to a door and opened it for him. "Just follow this corridor down; it will lead you to the weapon."
Ghost nodded to David and stepped into the corridor. The door shut behind him and he took a deep breath. He took his weapon out and started on his way down towards the end of the corridor."
