"Don't worry, I'm alone." April spoke as she put down a pen and turned around to face Ghost who was standing there caught red handed with his hand in the cookie jar.

And now Winter Fortress, Part III

Ghost watched as the woman turned around to face him. She heard him coming even if he had managed to enter the room without making any noise. She must have some type of sensor around the door, Ghost thought. He slowly pointed his gun towards the ground and stood upright. It was April. He recognized her from the pictures he had seen while on his way there.

"You got here a lot faster than I had expected." April said with a seductive smile on her face. She pushed herself off the counter and started to make her way towards him. "And you did it without alerting anyone." She said as she got closer. She was dressed in a black blouse that showed her cleavage line and a black skirt with a pair of nylons and high heels.

"Almost anyone..." Ghost said with a hint of bitterness in his voice. He couldn't help but look her over. She was stunning even for a holo graphic character.

"Well, that's only because I knew you were coming." She said as she stopped in front of him. Her hand came up from her lab coat pocket. Ghost reacted in an attempt to block it and he did. "Relax; it's just a transmitter that will allow you to access any door on the base."

Ghost released her arm and allowed her to insert the transmitter into his skin. There was a moment of pain as she did so, and he brought a hand up to rub the spot when she pulled away from him. "So, you are the poor fool that they send out here alone to take care of this problem..."

Ghost stepped in deeper into the room keeping his eye out for anything suspicious as he made his way in deeper. "Well, not completely alone." Ghost said as his eyes once again focused on April.

April had walked back to the counter. She placed the instrument that she just used to insert the transmitter into him with inside a silver box and closed the box. She placed it in her pocket and turned around to face him. "I'm not sure how much help I'm going to be..."

Ghost watched her eyes as they shifted from side to side and he knew what was coming. It was a trap. Before Ghost had a chance to react to any of it a group of soldiers rushed into the room. They quickly disarmed him and one of them used the butt of the gun to hit him in the back of the head. He collapsed to the floor. He was passing in and out when he overheard a conversation.

"So, this is the rat that Washington decided to send him to stop us?" It was a male voice. Ghost couldn't place it. He didn't know it. Was he dreaming he began to wonder? It couldn't be.

"Yes, his code name is Ghost." There was a female voice. He knew that voice. It was April. She had betrayed him, but why? Did she turn? There were so many things running through his head at the moment.

"I see...I think I'm going to enjoy this." He heard footsteps approach him. "Take him away to Cell Block A. I will come see him later." Then again there were those footsteps this time they moved away from him. "Come, Miss April." He could hear her heels walk down the corridor and get further away until they completely faded.

It was then that he felt like he was picked up and grabbed out of the room, after that he couldn't remember anything. He was must have passed out again.

Ghost opened his eyes. He found himself in a cell. He was laying on his back staring at the ceiling. There was a sharp pain in the back of his head. He brought his hand back rubbing the back of it. It was from the butt of the gun that connected with his head.

"Damn! I should have seen that one coming." He said loudly. He rose up into a sitting position. He looked around and there weren't any windows but a door located straight in front of him. That had a window from what he could see with bars in it. He got up from the floor and headed over to it. He tried the door and nothing. He looked out and saw no one. He sighed and took a seat on the bed.

"Don't worry; I will get you out of there."April's voice echoed in his head. He looked around and even stood up from the bed. He didn't see her anywhere. "That transmitter I inserted you with isn't only for doors, but it will also allow us to communicate directly."

"What the hell is going on April?" Ghost asked. He was furious with her at the moment. He didn't know if he could trust her or not. She did just pretty much betray him.

"I can't talk now, just hang in there. I will explain everything when I get there."

"April!" Ghost said with frustration in his voice. He didn't know what was going on and the one person that knew what was going on wasn't giving him any answers. He called out her name a few more times but nothing. He laid down on the bed and stared at the ceiling.

He had been laying there for at least twenty minutes before he heard a door open. He didn't get up from the bed just stayed there. He heard those same heels that he heard before and he knew it was April. Than the door unlocked and opened. When the door opened April was standing right there.

"Come on, we don't have much time." April said as she tossed a backpack towards him.

Ghost jumped up from the bed grabbing the backup. He took a look inside. There was everything that they took away from him and then some more. "Are you going to tell me what's going on now?"

April nodded. "I will but not here. You need to get through the tunnel and to the other facility where the master mind behind this weapon is located. He is still working on it. They have black mailed him into completing it. He will tell you how to stop it." April grabbed him by his hand and pulled him to the door. "You need to head down to the last level. Once you are out there will be a garage and a tunnel. Head down, the lab is located on the 3rd level."

Ghost was still confused to what was going on but he followed her along. She did look like she was helping him or at least setting him up to another trap. They left the cell block and made it back to the lift. She opened the door.

"Don't worry, I will tell you everything once you are down." April said looking at him. Then she leaned in and kissed him on the cheek and stepped back. The doors closed and he headed down.

All Ghost could do was nod. The lift headed down to the bottom level just like April had instructed him. The ride took a few moments and when the doors opened he poked his head out. There wasn't anyone around. He grabbed his weapon and started to move down around the vehicles towards the tunnel.
