Mission: Prelude: Blowing away the Cobwebs

The Senior staff had been aboard Orion for little over half an hour when Montgomery called his chosen Executive Officer to the nearly completed ready room.

Lieutenant Sheridan entered the ready room, He noticed it was coming together nicely. "Yes Sir, you wished to see me?"

"Have a seat John, make yourself at home" said Montgomery. "I want to kinda set the tone between us for the future, this is my first command, just as it's your first posting as an XO and I want us to become a strong team" he stopped giving the XO a chance to reply;

John took a seat on the Captains sofa, "I agree Sir, this crew will need a unified Command team."

"Good" repled Montgomery with a trademark grin. "Here's where I am, behind closed doors you are here by ordered to call me James, and I exect you to tell me what you think whether you agree with me or not." he paused a took a sip from the glass on his desk. "However in front of the crew we follow protocol to the letter. Agreed?"

"You got it James."

"Good, I hope we'll become more than just colleagues. I think it helps for a senior staff to be friends to a certain extent. I'll be honest with you, I had dozens of applications for the XO spot, but I picked you for a reason. You jumped out of the page at me for one thing, but the other is slightly more complicated. and It's where I'll need your support the most." Montgomery paused and sipped again from the glass which was by now nearly empty. "I'm a fairly timid man by nature, I'm from a medical background and sometimes I think that my desire to help people, not to fire first that sort of thing prevents me from making the right course of action. I'm hoping your more offensive related background will balance things out a bit.

"I was surprised at receiving this assignment, I was the most junior man on the Fleet list for the position... You need to be comfortable with the fact I'm new to this as you, but have been in a few high stress situations. Just know I will always have this ship and command as my first priority."

"Excellent" replied Montgomery. "Now if you don't mind I have one specific task for you - In my previous appointments as XO I've always found organising a holodeck social for the senior staff team helps them bond and gets the group dynamic set. Could you see to it? I've usually gone for beach BBQ parties but it's entirely your choice."

"Sure sounds great, I'll get right on it."

"Thanks all for now John, let this be the first of many adventures together"

"Aye, Aye, Sir"
