963 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Transitions
Location: Brig
Timeline: Right after Sam's meeting with Damon

ON

Sam left Damon and went straight to the brig. She wanted to get this matter dealt with as soon as possible so she could focus on getting the ship on its way.

She nodded to the officer on duty, who simply pointed in the direction of Jaxara's cell. She turned and headed down the corridor, stopping just inside the door. She crossed her arms across her chest and waited.

Jaxara nodded to the cup of tea. It was sitting on the desk, just in front of where she was standing. "Told you the tea would be on."

"IDIOT!" Lire yelled.

"The Captain's present, Lire. Keep it to yourself." Jaxara said. "Though, I'm told she does have a point." He added, addressing the Captain.

"Yes, she does. And, from what I've heard so far, she's right," Sam said, still standing.

Jaxara smiled. "Well, I'm glad everyone is of uniform opinion."

"I wouldn't quite say that. There are some who want you kicked off the Calypso," Sam replied quietly. "So far I haven't heard anything to change that opinion."

Jaxara shrugged. "Captain's discretion, and all. I really have no power to change it, I suppose."

"Yes, but Captain's discretion is based a lot on the Lieutenant's attitude. So, tell me why I shouldn't kick you off my ship."

"Personal qualifications, and... uhm... well... I don't really have..." Jaxara shook his head. "I haven't the foggiest, ma'am. I don't suppose anyone could send along any help?"

"He's an idiot." Lire's voice said.

"He isn't afraid to do everything that's needed to get the job done." Daniels said. "And, he's an idiot."

"Thanks for the help, you two." Jaxara muttered.

"I would hardly call discharging a firearm in Engineering as doing everything that's needed to get the job done," Sam said to Lire. She turned back to Jaxara. "And it really is Captain's discretion. Under Article 15, I can do what I think is best. But that best is based on attitude and performance as much as the infraction." Her gaze turned menacing. "So, Lieutenant, tell me why I shouldn't have you thrown in irons and locked up for the next year."

"I have no reason, Captain. None. No clue why I did it. Just did. Can't quite seem to figure that one out." Jaxara said. "Regardless, the only reason I can come up with is this. Right here. At the very least, I realized what I did was out there, and came here, because, not only is it required of me, but because it is the right thing to do.

Sam sighed. "Yes, you did file the report and put yourself in the brig." She looked at him for a moment. "Major Raine and I had a long talk about you." She wouldn't go into the details. "Let's just say we stand together. 30 days confinement to quarters -- starting tomorrow. You can go on shift if needed, but you will not be on any away missions. No leaving the ship. Mandatory counseling -- also starting tomorrow. And you're not allowed to carry a weapon during that time. Consider yourself under house arrest -- and on probation." She looked at the other two. "For the next 24 hours he stays in the brig." She looked back at jaxara. "Any questions?"

"No ma'am." All three voices said, in unison.

"Good," Sam said, sitting down at the table. "Now I think I could use that cup of tea."

Lorne nodded to the cup. "Help yourself. Should be pretty hot. It was only made just before you walked in."

Sam poured herself a cup and took a long drink. "Pull a stunt like this and I'll sick the entire Marine Detachment on you. Understood?"

Jaxara nodded...

Alexandria had been in the bath tub. The singular luxury she permitted herself. Reading the PADD of paperwork from Security, she came upon the arrest report.

"IDIOT!" She yelled. "BLOODY IDIOT!"

Grabbing her bath robe, not thinking about it, she just left her quarters, and headed off to Security.

"WHERE IS HE? WHERE IS THAT IDIOT?" Alexandria asked.

"Uhm. Captain, may I introduce Chief Warrant Officer Alexandria Winchester, Master-at-Arms." Jaxara said, nodding to the voice headed in their direction.

He suddenly stopped his narrative, watching the woman walk in, in her bath-robe.

"Uh...." He stuttered off.

"IDIOT!" Alexandria yelled.

"Yeah. I've been told." Jaxara said, shaking his head.

"What the hell did you think-" Alexandria started, and suddenly realized the Captain was there.

"Let's not forget about that time, with the Ambassador, and just drop it, shall we, Alexandria?" Jaxara asked.

Sam stood and looked at Alexandra. "I think the situation is not dire enough for you to be racing down here in your robe," she said with a half-smile. "At the moment, however, I'm not sure who the bigger idiot is. I'm beginning to think I should turn security over to the Marines..."

Daniels nodded to Lire. "We could book her for public indecency."

"Not a bad idea." Lieutenant Junior Grade Lire said with a nod.

"Well, I kind of saw that one coming," Jaxara said, "but I have to admit, at least it isn't a half bad view."

Alexandria glowered at him, turned, and stalked back in the direction of the turbolift.

"Well, that was fun." Jaxara said. "We should get together for tea more often, Captain. It always seems to be entertaining."

Sam just groaned and put her head in her hands. A minute later she stood. "Behave yourselves. All three of you." Then she nodded and left.

"Not going anywhere, ma'am." Jaxara said, watching her go.
