Transitions
Location: sickbay
Timeline: current
During her mid-morning shift Erin wandered down to sickbay, calmly holding her wrist as rivlets of brownish blood ran between her fingers.
''Doctor Bowen?'' She called, looking around.
''I had an...accident. Are you busy?''
Leanne was inpecting an equipment when someone walked in. When she looked up as she heard her name, she recognized it to be the counselor. She did a double take and rushed over to her, "Erin...what happened?" She picked up a lot of white gauzes and placed it to her wrist, applying pressure. "Walk with me to this biobed..."
The counceller followed the doctor over to the biobed, wincing at the pressure being applied to her wrist.
''Clumsiness, mostly. I was carrying a coffee cup and tripped.. i tried to get most of the glass splinters out but I'm not sure if I did.''
After the Kazon female sat down, she slightly released the pressure and asked the nurse to bring the instruments that she needs. "Was the glass from the coffee cup?"
Erin nodded. ''I never got the feel for china or metal cups, so thats where the glass was from.'' She admitted.
''I would have tried to bandage it myself if it was'nt for the glass, and that I didnt think sickbay would be too busy at this time.''
Leanne picked up a pair of tongs as she looked at her wrist, looking for any pieces of glass. "Nurse, give her a sedative, Cloxivil, at 3cc to the juglar."
"Yes, ma'am."
The doctor continued to search. As soon as she found one a little deep, she waited till the nurse gave the counselor the hypospray. "Okay, this might hurt but try to be still." Then, she slowly pulled the half-inch glass embedded in the open wound, causing more blood to seep out. "Nurse, more gauze."
"Whether sickbay is busy or not, it would be best to come get it checked out...you never know if an infection could set in an open wound," she explained to Erin. Leanne picked up the dermal regenerator and worked with sealing up her wrist. "The glass nearly cut your artery in your wrist...very lucky. Does the pain feel less now?"
Erin nodded, gingerly moving her wrist around. She felt a twinge of pain but like when the glass was being extracted; she kept a pokerface.
''Much better.'' She said with a small smile. ''I had no idea it was that deep.''
She stood up, feeling a little numb from the sedative but blinking the fuzzy feeling away.
''Thanks for your time.''
"No problem. If you have any complications, come back and see me. And, be careful with a coffee cup...", Leanne smiled.
Erin laughed. ''I'll try. No promises though.''
She stood up and made for the door.
''Thanks again, doctor.''
