Kara knelt down by the Corpsman. "How's he doing?" she asked.
Gunparra had been checking the splint to make sure no dust had infiltrated while chatting with Ewan
"Ask him yourself, seems to be no worse for wear despite the battlefield medicine."
Kara knelt down and looked at the man. "What's your name and where are you from?"
Ewan Fraser looked up at her. "I am Ensign Ewan Angus Fraser. I cannae remember much, but I can a' least tell ye that this worthless, quagmire excuse fer a planet needs tae be left the bloody 'ell alone!"
Kara chuckled. "Sounds like you're doing better, Ensign. We're from the USS Orion. We'll be taking you back to the ship and from there to Starbase Typhon."

Lizzie followed Karma and Trent as they made there way to the spot where the two ships were supposed to land. They stopped on a rock outcropping ten meters from the site. There was nothing there.
Karma looked at the empty space and tried to find any indication the ships had been there. "Is there anything detectable on scans?" he asked the others as he surveyed the area again, looking for any signs of the eels.
Lizzie pulled out her tricorder and began to scan carefully. There were very fait traces of two power signatures, but nothing else. "The two ships were here. One cargo transport ship, one shuttle, by their signatures. There's no sign of them now, however," she told Karma.
Karma nodded and looked around at the others. "Let's go down there and get a closer look. Keep your eyes open for anything unusual." He looked at the crash site again then moved out into the sand.
Lizzie nodded and very carefully stepped onto the sand. She immediately began to sink and stepped back. She found a few rocks and jumped over to one, then to another. "Can't go on the sand directly," she told Karma.
Trent was avoiding the sand wherever possible, hopping most of the way to where the Lieutenant stood. One of the rocks he landed on broke off under the weight of his body causing Trent to hop furiously on smaller rocks until he found a sure enough footing. With a frown, he looked back to the section that fell away, as if to censure it. As he stared it down he noticed something about it caught his attention. The exposed area had a very odd colour to it. Curious, he knelt down and took a closer look. The broken rocks were a light green in stark contrast to the red, black and sand colours that seemed to be this entire planets range. A small sliver of the green rock the size of his finger lay beside the rubble and he picked it up to examine. To his eyes the shard looked more like glass than anything and after holding it up to the light it had a strange refractive quality to it . Not glass, he thought suddenly realising what it was, crystal.
"Hey guys." He said loud enough for the rest of the team to hear him. "Isn't this planet supposed to be rich in dilithium?" He held up the shard for them to see.
Lizzie pointed her scanner at the rock. "Yes. That's what the miners were here for. Dilithium, among others."
"Well there must be a vein nearby if it's cresting the surface like this."
"I would assume so, with the mining team," Lizzie replied. She turned to Karma. "What do you want us to do now?"
"Since we can't get to the ships we should head back to the others," Karma replied. "Unless you two would rather stay here and play with the dilithium?"
"I'd rather play with the plants," Lizzie confessed with a grin. "I'm a botanist, not a geologist." She began to make her way back to where Karma stood. "Whatever you want, Lieutenant," she said.
Karma looked at the sand again and sighed. "Let's go back to the others," he told them as he started walking. Glancing over his shoulder at Lizzie he said, "You know, back where the plants are."
Lizzie chuckled. "What ever you say," she said cheerfully. "I wish we could have found something more... physical... to explain what happened."
"We can try again if we can find a way across the sand," Karma said to her as he walked across the rocks.
"I wonder if a shuttle could fly through the sand?" Lizzie asked him.
"Through the sand?" Karma asked. "Even if that was possible, do you know a pilot that would want to try it?"
"No," Lizzie sighed. "I don't know if it's possible and I don't know a pilot who'd be foolish enough to try. Not until we can find a way to see through the sand."
Karma chuckled and said, "Why don't you work on that and let me know what you come up with."
Lizzie nodded. "I'll need to go back to the pod to see what the computer has to say."
"Then let's go," he said with a nod. "I want to get back to the others and see if they've discovered anything."

Kara helped the medic prep Ewan to take him back to the pod. The storm was beginning to ease, but it was still too strong for communication and transportation. With Ewan's leg immobilized, they'd be able to carry him through the cave and into the pod. She nodded to one of the other Marines to help her lift the man as they began their journey back.
The group made their way back to the pod. They didn't accomplish what they'd hoped, but the results were both more and less than they'd expected. Perhaps when they got back to the pod they could make more sense of them.
