Sam went ahead of the group to the pod. She wanted to let them know what was going on and get something set up for the doctor when she arrived with Kaj and Christian.

She turned to Karma. "Keep everyone together. I'm going to alert the pod and see if I can contact the Orion from there. The combadges are useless right now in this storm."

As soon as she was sure Karma and Leanne had things well in hand, she headed up the tunnel.

Trent frowned continuously as he brushed off the sand that seemed to be everywhere on his body. He stopped suddenly, halting a number of Marines in line behind him, and shook his body violently sending a cascade of the reddish sand down his uniform.

Allen, who was stuck in line a number of paces behind him, grinned to himself as he squeezed up through the narrow passage of rock and Marines. When he was behind Trent, he clapped him heavily on his back sending the man stumbling forward a pace and puff of collected sand was sent billowing into the air.

"You know, my dog at home does the same shaking thing when he is dirty." Allen said as he walked past his comrade who was still struggling to find his footing.

"Yeah, well what does your dog do when he has sand in his ears?" Trent grumbled to himself with his finger dug into his ear. He tilted his head sideways and quickly fell into pace behind his superior, freeing up the Marines behind.

Karma watched the interplay between the officers in front of him and smiled.

Despite his injuries Kaj had insisted that he help carry Christian who was still unconscious. It may have hurt and he may not have been thinking the clearest, but it didn't matter, Christian was his crewmate and his responsibility, and injuries or not he wouldn't let go, no matter how much the doctor complained. It would take a Marine to stop him.

Karma finally managed to catch up to Kaj and grabbed Christian's arm and threw it over his shoulder, relieving some of the strain on Kaj. "You should have waited for us," he said to Kaj.

Before Kaj said anything, Doctor Bowen winced, "Be easy," she said to Karma, "he might have some internal injuries."

"Sorry," Karma said, more to Kaj and Christian than to anyone else.

"It's ok, but you have to understand that Christian is my co-pilot, and we don't leave each other. We're worse than marines that way."

Kaj turned to Leanne as much as he dared, the shoulder was really starting to sting by that point.
"I know doc, that's why we have to get him to shelter ASAP. Anybody know how far we are?"

She noticed that the painkiller is wearing off. "Are you in pain again, Kaj? I have another sedative that I can give you. I sure hope we are not that far..."

Kaj shook his head. "Not now doc, save 'em for Christian and the skipper, the things make me groggy anyway and this is the last place anybody needs to be lightheaded, especially if I've got a concussion which I think I do."

Kaj looked up at where the pod was sitting, mercifully not moving or shifting on the rock.
'Well at least one thing has gone right on this hop, hopefully the skipper will downplay the whole crashing the Firefly thing.' he thought to himself, before trying to yell and coughing because of the sand.
"We're close let's *HACK*"

Kaj spit to the side and elected to not speak again until they got to the pod, his mouth already felt like sandpaper

Karma carefully shifted the weight in his arms and tried to hurry to the pod.


Kara picked up the extra supplies at the blast site and followed the rest of the party back to the pod.
