The Orion arrived at Tiberius IV and began to orbit the planet.

"Lieutenant Mikkola, standard orbit. Ronnie, start the scans," Sam said.

John was making some notes on his padd and checking some data that he had recently picked up, he watched the view screens hoping to catch a glimpse of anything out of the ordinary.

"Standard Orbit, aye skipper."

The drop out of warp had been uneventful and the approach had been the same, and neither of those things did anything to relive Kaj. He wasn't superstitious, but there had been plenty of times where a lead-up to a major problem was uneventful.
As Kaj carried out the order he checked over his navigational sensor readouts, reporting back when the ship was moving into position courtesy of the computer.

"Commander I have no trace of either the miners or the team that got here before us, no navigational beacon, no IFF squawk from civilian or fleet idents, no prospector beacons, absolutely nothing."

Sam expected no less, but there was always hope. She looked at Ronnie. "Anything from science?"

"No, ma'am. I can't scan through the sand. It's very fine and of a substance that blocks the scanners. We've done one pass around the planet and I've found nothing, either."

"Can you scan through the rock and maybe see what's under the surface?"

"No, ma'am. Can't scan through the rock, either," Ronnie replied.

"Okay. If we can't find anything from here, we'll send the away team and see if they can find anything on the planet's surface."

Sam looked at Kaj. "I'd like you to fly the shuttle. We leave in an hour."

Kaj nodded. The lead-up to that moment had been clear and he had been preparing accordingly.
"Aye ma'am, heading to shuttlebay one, a firefly with a platoon pod is on standby."

Kaj got up and started walking briskly towards the shuttlebay, tapping his commbadge and talking to several people. As he left he was replaced by Ensign Melinda Catto at the helm, though Kaj noted the barely hidden dirty look still plastered on his face since the meeting he held with the rest of the flight control department before they departed.

John looked at the captain. "A complete orbital scan as we move through the planet's entire orbit may reveal some debris field or traces of metal reentering the atmosphere."

"Nothing on the first pass," Ronnie answered the XO. "But we still have the poles. No sign of anything yet."

Sam nodded in agreement. From what she'd been given, the ships were to land near the 49th parallel near a large deposit of dilithium. They'd passed over the area and found nothing.

Sam tapped the comm on her chair. "Captain Raine, Lieutenant Sinclair, Doctor Bowen, meet me in the shuttle bay in one hour."

Damon tapped on his comm badge "Main shuttle bay in one hour, copy that Captain."

As Sam stood to leave the bridge she turned to Sheridan. "You have the bridge."

"Aye, Ma'am" Sheridan sat in the Captains chair and continued watching scan results.
