Mission:
Eye of the Storm
Location: Holodeck/ Newmark quarters
When Nhallia felt the first good wave coming, she was on her board in a flash and heading right through the barrel that was forming. Crouching low, she shot inside, dancing with the wall of water until she slid out the other side and the wave crumbled behind her.
Newmark felt the wave and managed to paddle enough to catch it, pointing downward slightly he did make the jump up on the board in triumph. Forgetting to crouch as the tube formed at his head level Newmark was taken off his board as though clothes lined then folded into the cresting tube that collapse around him.
Nhallia turned to look behind her as the wave disintegrated and her smile slipped away as she only saw a board but no surfer on it. "Verdeath?" she called out and she dropped to crouch on the board to paddle back towards where her should have been. "Verdeath?" she called again as she scanned the water.
Newmark finally; after some twisting and turning managed to get back to the surface. Coughing out some water he started to tread water and look about to assure he was not in the path of his wife's next wave.
"Computer, surfboard to me." The computer moved the surfboard to him and he took hold to help him while he sputtered.
Nhallia slid up alongside him. "Are you alright?" she asked as she started to reach for him.
"I see what you meant by balancing with bent knees." Newmark allowed his wife; who grew up on a surf board, help him get back on his board. "You do look quite alluring when you do that shooting out like from a water gun." He admitted. "Those wave tunnels are rather... short in height."
She looked carefully into his eyes. "You were knocked off, or lost your balance?" she asked for clarification. "And what about your head? Did you hit it on the board or were you thrown clear?"
"Force fed some sea water and knocked off the board." He nod to her. "The board went in another direction so just a rough swim." He look her in the eyes. "I will be better next time."
"As long as you don't have a concussion. No knocks to the skull? Your eyes look alright to me," she asked with a relieved smile.
"Yours are beautiful." He remarked as he look deeply into hers. "You want give it some more tries, without taking a swim maybe if I get it right?"
"If you're up for it, I'm in," she agreed, and turned her board to head back out to catch another wave.
"Actually I was in..." Newmark mused and watched the form of his wife a few seconds before smiling and following. "You are a cute act to follow."
They caught a few more waves of varying quality and difficulties. Nhallia played up and down, in and out, climbing and dropping down the walls. After a particularly nice run, she paddled over to Verdeath. "Ready for a break?" she asked breathlessly. She was surprised that she was out of breath, and even more surprised that her muscles were starting to protest. She used to be able to surf, windsurf, body board, you name it, for hours. But she was already getting a little shaky to go along with her shortness of breath.
"As long as you are Love?" He was not as out of breath; very much more soaked from a few dunkings, but he was not winded. "I actually brought real fruit and juices onto the Holodeck fresh squeezed." He angled his board in.
Nhallia followed him to shore and started schlepping the board towards the blanket he had spread out for them. "A drink sounds good. Go ahead and pour, I'll just be a minute," she said and put down the board. "Computer, arch," she ordered. The arch materialized several meters away and she started towards it.
"Please make it short, okay Love." Newmark urged. "This is time away, you can trust Stevie to spoil her to a point and Kit to keep it from out of hand."
"Just checking in," Nhallia defended herself, as she put in a quick comm call to Stevie.
""Haldin here. What's wrong? Did you get stung by a jelly-fish or something?" Stevie asked with a little laugh.
"No, just checking in- How's Aurea? Did she go down for a nap or-"
"She's fine, Nhallia. Kit is borrowing your keyboard and trying out a few new melodies; Aurea is her current guinea pig, and she seems to be enjoying it. Now go- get a tan or something. Good bye, have fun." Stevie cut the channel abruptly, leaving Nhallia frowning at the arch.
"Has the baby won the battle of who is boss?" Newmark joked from the blanket where he was making some fruit snack and pouring juice.
"I- I have no idea. You know Stevie- she didn't actually say much of anything..." Nhallia said, frowning as she sat down on the blanket.
"What were they doing with the baby?" Newmark asked. "No call for help must mean baby is having fun. If you had heard Crying you would have been out that Arch so can we get back to the enjoying the beach?"
She turned a curious look at him. "What are you being so testy about?" she asked.
"Observations, just verifying things are going okay." He chuckled. "I was trying to be lighthearted, I did make the best arrangements that I could for the baby to have fun." He winked. "That way I had hoped you would be more relaxed. Stevie is fun and Kit will keep them from getting wild."
"I know that- I was just... checking. I worry...." she tried to explain, frowning again as she had trouble putting it into words.
What might have been most frustrating was that they never used to have this problem. She had never felt like it was hard to communicate with Verdeath before, and now it seemed like it constantly was.
"I am sorry." He moved towards her back. "Guess we have a bit of relearning to be alone again." Newmark started to move his hands at the base of her neck as he often did, it was the first bit of relaxing caress.
The fingers at her neck and shoulder automatically made her take a deep, filling breath that she started to let out slowly, almost a sigh.
"I should probably make sure you are aware I love you more than my life and above all others." He continued to work that little massage trick with her back.
"Never doubted it." Her eyes closed and she winced a tiny bit. It had been a long time since she'd had the tension massaged out of those muscles- in and between the shoulder blades was where she carried stress and anxiety. She hadn't paid attention to how it had built up until Verdeath got his hands on her.
It almost felt like his fingers tensed up as he worked his way down her spine and the tensed muscles between her shoulders; the bottleneck of all her life's problems seemed to add their pressure there. Without a word he used gentle but more penetration touch between the muscle groups as he improved the paths for more blood flow and allowed them to relax.
Nhallia gave a vocal sigh and leaned into the touch at her back a little more. "Mmmmmm. You have no idea how good that feels," she murmured.
"It is good to realize I am real and not a Hologram." He continued with his ministrations.
She chuckled. "Positive about that? We are in another holodeck. You could be a very, very good holo-masseur..." she teased.
"Either one is here for you..." He started the moving from each vertebra and out to relax the muscles and leaned to nuzzle her neck as he was at her lower back.
"I don't want a holo-masseur," she admitted as she took a shaky breath.
Wider sweeping arcs to promote blood flow starting at her back to her sides in 5 finger waves up from the waits towards her shoulders and some light kissing from neck to shoulder.
"I am real you know." He whisper in her ear. "That could be a good start of things?" He offered. "I love you more than you can know..." He finally whisper in her ear.
Nhallia and cuddled back into him, into his kisses, into his caresses and turned her head. "I love you, too," she murmured as she found his lips with hers and kissed him deeply, slowly.
Newmark loved his wife; her lips had a taste like no other and he took in the kiss and the feel of her under his fingers added a little more passion to his kiss as he caress the shoulder with the swimsuit strap...
His kiss and caress and the way he held her made Nhallia melt into him- and her heart skipped a beat as she reached for him, for the first time in many months, not thinking of anything other than here, now, and him.
[end of Beach time]
Newmark held his wife close and carried the cynching bag over the other. She was a lovely sight in the suit and surong around her waist. They were going back to Quarters.
"Anytime you want to relax with some tender musings after Aurea is bedded-down I am happy to give you all my attention Love?" SMiling. "Call it reward for the Good Mother type."
"I don't deserve an award just for being a good mother- that's just base line, what everyone who has a baby should do. I'm- just making sure I don't let her down," Nhallia said.
"I say this as a Doctor whom has been witness to children and their parents... you are a good one and Aurea is blessed to have you." He winked.
"Hope so," she said as they came up to their own door. "And I hope Aurea's alright after I was gone..."
Newark passed a hand over sensor for door to open.
"Ladies always first." He gesture her to enter.
It was quiet. Very quiet. As Nhallia stepped into the room she looked around, worried at just how quiet it was.
Stevie was lying on the sofa, with her feet up and eyes closed, and as the Newmarks walked in, she sat up and started waving one hand while motioning for them to "shhhhh" with the other.
Kit and the baby were not in the living room and when Nhallia started looking around for them, Stevie silently motioned to the nursery.
Newmaek had not thought of there being a disaster area, and the girls should be able to handle it. he was quite soft stepping in General, but he took more care and after all his previous training he had a knack for being nearly silent if he wished.
Coming to the doorway he looked in.
Sitting the rocker and rocking slowly, Kit had a sleeping Aurea braced on her shoulder. She was humming softly, a new melody, one no one recognized. Apparently she was testing a new lullaby, and the test was so far a success.
"Gotta love having musical Aunts." Newmark whispered to Nhallia. "but getting Aurea from Kt is easy..." He lightly chuckled. "Kit from the baby... that is your job." He teased lightly.
Nhallia was just staring, a somewhat bemused look on her face. "I... haven't ever really gotten to watch her with other people." She frowned a little. "She's- she's pretty good with other people, isn't she?"
"That is what babies do." He kissed her cheek. "What say we let Kit put her down and we go and get some sleep?" He asked quietly. "Let the girls have some time until she need her Mother?"
Part of her was torn- Nhallia knew she should be the one taking care of Aurea, putting her to bed and rocking her to sleep, but... Aurea seemed fine. Stevie and Kit had done a great job. Aurea was sleeping soundly, and it wouldn't do her any good to be woken now.
Pressing her lips together nervously, just a little unsure of this decision, she nodded and reached out to slide her arm around Verdeath's waist so he could lead her away. As he pulled her closer, her head rested naturally on his shoulder and she relaxed enough to simply... be with him.
Relieved his idea actually worked and he have a smile and nod to Stevie before he and his wife head for their room.
