Mission:
Eye of the Storm
Timeline: MD 01
ON
The closer they got to the planet, the stronger the storm became. Power was diverted to the shields to protect the ship.
"What's the status of the people on the colony?" Sam asked. Even that was iffy with the strength of the storm. "Can you get any readings?"
'Barely,' replied Aenar curtly as he manipulated the sensors, 'It seems the colony's power systems are down - not reading any large-scale electrical activity.' He adjusted some settings, 'there are life-signs down there, but the ion storm is heavily interfering with what I can pick up - I can assure you there are people alive down there, but I can't tell you what shape they're in.'
Sam nodded. "Shan, I'd like you to join the away team. They're gathering in the shuttle bay."
Shan nodded. "Yes, Captain." She signaled for the back up operations officer to report to the bridge and passed over control of the position over, then swiftly strode towards the shuttle bay.
"Helm, once they launch, take us behind the moon. Maybe we can shield from the storm there."
She turned to Aenar. "I'm also hoping it will shield us enough for you to get a better reading on that storm."
'Every little helps,' quipped the Bajoran before looking up at his CO with a sheepish smile, 'uh, I mean, ... it probably will - the umbrella effect of the moon should lessen any interference.'
York just laughed. "It's okay, lieutenant. Every little bit does help."
Aenar smiled, and nodded in response, 'I'll see what we can see once we're in position - get cracking on those scans we need.'
Sam nodded in response.
As the turbolift slid to the correct deck, Shan reached for her commbadge. "Shan to Savar. I'm going down to the planet. Comms are bad. Keep a wary eye out for me?"
"As you wish My Lei." Savar was waiting close to the shuttle bay door. "I knew a Landing party would be going down and ... logically Operations would be called to help the lost communications."
Shan stepped off the turbolift and strode towards the shuttle bay, but as she rounded a corner and her Mate came into sight, she slowed a little and a smile lifted the corners of her lips. "Hi, Sehlat," she said very quietly and reached out with two extended fingers to offer him a so-called Vulcan kiss.
Savar had on his uniform for the Diplomatic Department as he placed his two fingers on hers and look into her eyes.
"I hope this is less eventful than your last Away Mission." He made it a statement rather than a question.
"It better be," she muttered. "Because if someone grabs me and throws me in a cell again-" she stopped short and surge of anger welled up in her- anger covering up a terror she couldn't express or acknowledge even to herself, but that she couldn't hide from Savar, her Mate, and the telepathic Bond they shared.
"I will be at the ready." He took her in his arms for just a moment to seeming to show her affection to an observer but to shield her just a second so to be the Tough Shan that he loved so dearly. "I am told this is a Federation Colony, no danger from natives." A quick squeeze. "But your technical expertise is vital."
Shan smiled up at him and nodded. "And I'll be back before you even have time to miss me." A quick glance around showed no one else in this stretch of corridor, and she reached up to grip his collar and pull him into a brief kiss. She stepped out of his arms and flashed him one of her confident- almost cocky- grins. "See you soon," she said as she turned away and strode around the last corner and to the shuttle bay without looking back again.
((Shuttle Bay))
The Counselor walked into the shuttle bay. She needed nothing besides herself. After all, there were people down there that needed her help and she was happy to do so. She did not know how many hugs she would have to give but she was more than willing to do so.
She smiled at everyone as she walked in. "I don't see that everyone is here yet."
Munich came into the Shuttle Bay with a satchel over his shoulder.
"Hello Counselor, glad to have you along." He acknowledged.
"Thank you, Commander. I am happy to be of service. There are people down there that will need my assistance," Bela replied with a mixture of concern and happiness.
"It will be good having you there." Hans bow slightly.
Her pace swift and confident as always, Shan walked in and nodded to the other officers present.
Doctor Dwight McCabe entered the shuttle bay with a medical duffel bag hanging from his right shoulder and a coat in his left hand. He was dressed in casual but with a solid blue turtleneck, long sleeve shirt with the federation insignia embroidered on his left chest. He nodded at the crew as he entered the shuttle and immediately put away his stuff.
Askard walked in with the retinue of Marines that were supposed to go with the away team. He didn't know if all of them were going, but he wanted to make sure that everything was the way it was supposed to be. "Pick a spot over there," he said pointing to a corner maybe fifty yards away from the shuttle. "And lets make sure everyone is packed for the mission."
"It iz time to get going." Munich suggested. "As is said on Earth Load them up and Move them out."
